Data Center Infrastructure & Facility Manager at The World Bank
Prepared, managed and controlled annual budget (about 10 million dollars) for th
e data center project. Most years completed all Data Center activities and proj
ects with in the budgeted capital and time.
As Project Manager for the transition of the Business Continuity Center (BCC) to
the primary data center I Managed the upgrade of the entire infrastructure of t
he data center to make it the primary data center.
Managed and coordinated the move of about 85% of 'Production' equipment from the
downtown data center out to the new Primary data center without losing a single
piece of equipment or application.
This migration included moving Storage Area Network equipment (like EMC cabinets
, Clarions and Symmetricon units, Brocade SAN switches etc) and SAP equipment (l
ike IBM cabinets with AIX servers etc). I have extensive experience with Physic
al Level work on all this equipment.
Designed and implemented modification to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) e
quipment to make installation of the equipment in racks easier.
Managed data center personnel making sure all jobs are completed in time and all
Service Level Agreements (SLA's) & standards, for installation and identificati
on of equipment, are followed.
Conducted in-house studies, and wrote reports, on air conditioning systems, air
conditioning system efficiency improvements and ancillary equipment like Keyboar
d-Video-Mouse (KVM) switches, Power Distribution Units (PDU's) and system monito
ring devices (like NetBotz Cameras, Dranetz, Fluke, etc).
Prepared the Business Continuity (Disaster Recovery) plan in consultation with o
ther IT managers and corporate management.
Prepared reports and made presentations, to management, on compliance with perfo
rmance indicators and other Service Level Agreements.
Worked closely with outside vendors like Architecture and Engineering (A&E) fir
ms, building maintenance and management companies, IT Systems manufacturers and
suppliers (like EMC, IBM, Cisco, Juniper, Dell, HP etc) and mechanical and elect
rical vendors to upgrade the facility without interrupting operations of the exi
sting BCC.
Managed and scheduled preventive maintenance on data center facilities like dies
el/gas generators, chiller plants, roof top air conditioning units, Uninterrupta
ble Power Supplies (UPS's), PDU's, etc. and conducted breakdown maintenance mini
mizing risk to and failure of critical assets. Minimized downtime of critical s
ystems affected by any unforeseen breakdown.
Assigned and allocated space and electrical circuits for installation of new equ
ipment ensuring critical loads (electrical load on circuits, heat load, and ergo
nomics, etc.) are balanced and within specified limits.
Regularly studied, tested and evaluated new IT products and technologies (includ
ing voice, data, networking, imaging, etc.) to keep abreast with abreast with ch
anging technologies and to be able to make proper recommendations at the right t
