DESIGN CRITERIA

(4) Warehouse, Workshop and Electrical Control Building

Based on the results of the Dutch Cone Penetration tests DCPT-2 and DCPT-3, carried out around
building area, shallow foundation can be adopted to support buildings. The base of the shallow
foundation may be placed at 1 – 2 m depth.

Bearing capacity value for shallow foundation can be estimated from DCPT data using the following
formula that allows a 25 mm settlement;

qa = qc / 12

where:

qa = allowable bearing capacity (kg/cm²)

qc = cone resistance (kg/cm²)

Based on Terzaghi formula, the allowable soil bearing capacity at 1 m depth is 10 ton/m²

ƒ Operating considerations.

To simplify plant operations, the following guidelines should be observed in the design stage.
1) Unnecessary equipment and operations should be eliminated.
2) Operations requiring frequent attention from plant operators should be located reasonably close
together. The most attention is generally required for operation of filters, flocculators, and chemical
feeding equipment.
3) Chemical handling and feeding should also be simplified as much as possible. Unloading and storage
areas for chemicals should be easily maintained and readily accessible and be close to the point of
application of chemicals.
4) Plants treating river water must be arranged to provide the flexibility of treatment needed to cope with
raw water quality changes.
