addressed
1) Beware of questioning – more open questions to children. Q2, Q9, Q32
2) Show arrangement of children’s APP levels relevant to L.I’s.
3) Adapt planning sheet to include ‘prior learning’ and ‘next steps’.

 GB’s lesson plan sheet now includes a space for ‘prior learning’ and specific
‘next steps’. GB is now asking for the children’s levels prior to lessons,
knowledge of this will be cemented when back in Foundation next term. EW also
had comments on the lesson plan pro-forma this week, and noted that it should

sheet should give all the information required by an external assessor. Both EW
and KD commented in this weeks observation that GB’s open questioning has
improved immensely over the last couple of weeks.

Review of previous week’s observations, and adapting future planning in light of the
lesson observation feedback
Both this weeks observations were in numeracy, a subject area where GB states Q1, Q2, Q3,
he feels he has the most room for improvement. As noted above, KD and EW Q4, Q5, Q7,
commented that GB’s questioning has improved, particularly the use of open Q8, Q10,
questioning at the start of a lesson and more generally, questioning being Q14, Q17,
adapted to the time and/or content of the lesson in relation to AFL techniques. Q18,

GB stated that he feels cross-curricular links and trips are both worth their weight Q25a-d,
in gold when they are managed correctly. GB feels that these are two areas Q27, Q28,
where schools pay lip service too, and do not fully embrace. Links in learning Q30, Q31,

accessible to the children. GB stated his experience of school trips differ hugely
between the two placement schools he’s been in this year. The Foundation walk
through Higham village looking for signs of autumn felt more like a march to get
back to school asap with no injuries, while the recycling trip at Wellingborough
Park was a fantastic visit, with a clear focus on the activity on hand

General review of the week

A good week. Time at school was limited to just one and a half days due to extra
college training, an AFL tutorial with Su and GB’s Post-16 talk at The Duston
School. Two formally observed lessons were still squeezed in, both in Numeracy
with one observed by KD and one by EW. Feedback from EW was good, with the
lesson being graded as ‘good’, the first time that’s happened at HFNIS  The
Post-16 talks and AFL tutorial with Su were also a huge positive and a good
