PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

-- MIT LINCOLN LABS-Lexington, Massachusetts- 2003-

BIOCOMOMPATIBLE MATERIALS CONSULTANT

Design and construct unique cell-compatible devices using FDA approved plastic m
aterials. Select "off-the shelf" components as well as custom injection-molded p
arts to fabricate devices. These devices often require microfabrication processi
ng for creation of small channels for fluid flow in precise geometry's.
These devices are used in classified government projects to collect potential bi
ological threats both in potentially dangerous military environments as well as
for diagnostic use in government laboratories.
This work requires a government clearance.

-- MIT WHITEHEAD INSTITUTE/MIT BIOLOGICAL LABS -- Cambridge, Massachusetts

, 2000-2003
--BIOCOMPATIBLE MATERIALS AND ADHESIVES CONSULTANT

- Hans-on Genome Sequencing performed in one of the world's most prestigious fac
ilities, employing more than 1,000 people
-- HEWLETT-PACKARD/AGILENT TECHNOLOGIES-- Andover, Massachusetts,
1982-2000
-- SR. MEDICAL DEVICE R&D ENGINEER

Served as the primary R&D Engineer and only materials/plastics expert

for a world-renowned company comprised of 5,000 employees and contributing
significantly to cutting-edge medical-device development.
Nurtured ideas from concept to prototype, and shepherded them into
large-scale manufacturability, in accordance with tight deadlines. Developed
and tested many adhesives for use in medical devices exposed to body fluids
and the often harsh chemicals used in disinfecting and sterilization.
Planned, scheduled, and estimated costs for numerous complex projects.
Served as primary consultant on FDA materials requirements and as materials
consultant to R&D and manufacturing departments in an ISO, GMP and
FDA-compliant environment. Collaborated closely with in-house machine shop
to create appropriate tooling and fixtures and with 6-member team on
projects' progress. Kept meticulous records of progress and discoveries.
** KEY ACHIEVEMENTS, each of which earned a patent:
*Designed and fabricated a new lens structure that focuses ultrasound
energy directly onto the heart, for use in diagnostic cardiac imaging.
* Designed and fabricated a lens structure capable of rotation, to
allow cardiac image to be seen in three dimensions, significantly improving
heart-disease diagnoses.
* Designed and fabricated a new ultrasound-absorbing material to
prevent artifacts from appearing in heart image and potentially confounding
correct diagnosis.
* Designed and fabricated new insertion tube for the probe that
prevents accidental electrical shock to the patient.
* Designed new insertion-tube covering that reduced costs and improved
performance.
