Experience:
March, 2001 to June, 2010 - Boeing, Huntington Beach, California
At Boeing I was perforning both RF path analysis and design for a system bein
g developed for the training of military users of the CSEL HHR in the field. Unt
il recently I was working in the JTRS GMR integration and test effort. I have
developed or modified various test and field support hardware and related softwa
re for testing in the integration lab. I have experience with several of the wav
eforms employed in software defined radio applications.
I have also generated software for a Coldfire processor development board to re
plicate some of the functions of a communication test units to both transmit/rec
eive and assess pseudo-random test sequences. The effort produced a test board
that was controlled via the Internet by means of a HTML web page which I also im
plemented. The effort employed both C++ and HTML and employed the *C/OS RTOS. I
also performed some limited R&D work involving the evaluation of using GPU proce
ssors in software defined radio applications.
Another effort ported the NRL's MGEN network testing software to a Atmel AVR32
based development board and employed an embedded Linux OS.
I have also both developed most of the hardware and all of the software compone
nts for a replacement embedded processor box to load crypto-codes and power and
monitor the device being loaded, to accommodate early versions of the JTRS GMR'
s NIU box crypto code load functions. Effort involved embedded hardware/software
design and implementation. The last effort lead to a limited production run. Al
so developed, using MATLAB and tools provided by Agilent, a means of producing w
aveforms for Agilent's Vector Signal Processors for the JTRS effort.
For Integrated Missile Defense (IMD) Program I performed integration of simulat
ions written in different languages for the efforts simulation effort. Some of t
he languages employed with were Java, FORTRAN 95, FORTRAN 77, MATLAB scripts (.m
files), C++ and more. The goal of the effort was to link together all the simul
ations together under a MATLAB framework to permit assessment of various missile
defense technologies in a single software test bed setup.
Also generated a study (100+ pages) for the JTRS-AMF proposal effort in the ar
ea of message/data translation between different legacy and newer communication
systems incorporated into the JTRS-AMF proposal effort. I also generated sever
al study proposals, one for NASA for a Space-based software defined radio develo
pment study.
I also researched network protocols for tactical wireless network employing dir
ectional antennas to improve network capacity. This work also included examinat
ion of terrestrial path loss issues and the use of applicable directional ante
nnas to enhance link maintenance especially high capacity links. Performed commu
nication link budget analysis for proposed maintenance of satellites in low eart
h orbit. Examined the possible affect of future communication satellite technolo
gy on a proposed military command and control ship for the U.S. Navy. Worked on
interfaces for the semi-autonomous maintenance satellites and ground control sup
port issues (Orbital Express proposal), this also employed Satellite Took Kit (S
TK). Developed prototype software for distributed processing architecture based
on CORBA technology. The project is to develop a low cost, extensible, and capab
le earth orbiting satellite ground control segment for operation of constellatio
ns of satellites e.g. GPS. Also performed some analysis and design for software
designed radio systems
January 2000 to March, 2001 - Motorola SGS (Freescale) - DSP Products, Tempe, Ar
izona 85283
Lead effort to develop application notes for new DSP products DSP568xx aimed at
both motor control and process control markets. This effort both entails writing
of application notes and leading others in development of new microprocessor p
roducts. Also performed related effort for DSP563xx for digital audio, network p
rocessors, and digital telecommunication. Also developed for marketing group a v
irtual lab concept to permit access to products over INTERNET. I wrote several a
pplication notes for DSP products aimed at motor control market.
March, 1996 to September, 1999, Raytheon Systems formerly Hughes Aircraft Co. ,
Fullerton, California - Engineering Contractor
I implemented, tested, integrated and evaluated software for the orbit determin
ation portion of Correction and Verification Subsystem of the FAA's Wide Area Au
gmentation System (WAAS) contract. The WAAS subsystem I was directly apart of wa
s the Orbit Determination Observable Model (ODOM). Also participated in scenario
verification. Made additional contributions to the effort ranging from redesign
of the model and resulting code for GPS satellites (Lockheed-Martins) solar pre
ssure model employed by the WAAS effort, Kalman filtering analysis and design an
d support to members of the team. I did the formal testing of a number of WAAS s
oftware modules under FAA oversight. I participated in the integration testing o
f portions of software for the WAAS ground control facility.
Also worked at the Hughes Transport Management System (HTMS) group at Fullerton
, a highway automated monitoring project for toll roads, I produced a set of co
mputer based integrated visualization tools to aide in algorithm development for
Highway 407 project My effort provided a GUI environment to analyze vehicle tra
cking data produced by that effort. Code was written in C and employed the VESA
graphic card interface written in assembly and C and operated in the MS DOS envi
ronment. I also assisted in developing MATLAB based simulations for this effort

September, 1995 to March, 1996, CEC Vibration, Pomona, Ca - Engineer Consultant

Developed and implemented DSP based filters (design and programming) for vibrat
ion amplifiers/filters used in vibrations based diagnostic setups used in aircra
ft engine and heavy equipment applications. This effort replaces analog based fi
lters. Also implementing a digital tracking filter systems used for vibration an
alysis of jet engines during static engine throttling analysis. The DSP employed
in the effort - Motorola's DSP56002. Languages used Borland C++ and DSP56002 as
sembly language.
May, 1994 - August, 1995 Consultant to Sunkist Growers Inc, Research and Devel
opment, Ontario, Ca.
Designed and implemented a multi-processor system to perform the function of gr
ading various kinds of citrus fruits at the packing house using imaging techniq
ues. System was built around a 80486DX computer running real-time multiple boar
d constructed around TI's C40 floating point DSP.
Jan., 1985- Feb., 1993 Loral Aeronutronics (formerly Ford Aerospace Corp.,
Aeronutronics Div.) , Newport Beach, Ca.
Guided and developed company's imaging tracker development for more than five
years. This effort yielded the imaging tracker that was apart of F18's EO pod pr
oduct line. Developed and implemented various algorithms for applications req
uiring DSP processing in LADIR, imaging and
other applications. Developed scene generators, computer generated 3-D like imag
ery that enabled better evaluation of various imaging tracker procedures and ent
ire tracker systems. Also used simulations to provide more controllable imagery
for Auto-Cuer algorithm evaluation I implemented, tested, integrated and evalu
ating tracking algorithms for Shared Aperture Medium Range Tracker (SAMRT) - A h
igh energy LASER application for missile defense. I also implemented and tested
software for the adaptive optics component of SAMRT, for testing at Kirtland AF
B's Sandia Optical Range. Also performed analysis of the effect imaging tracker
data had on the missile's guidance system using the missiles 6-DOF simulation.
Also worked on JTIDS communication system, now called LINK 16. I also worked on
