Vision

T he vision is focused on extending the horizons of innovative chemical technologies with the aid of academic
and research achievements acclaimed at national and international level by the promising students.
Competition invokes up the best talent and with the constant support of renowned faculty and staff, the Chemical
Engineering Dept of NIT Raipur aims at being an emerging and promising contributor to the development of world
chemical technology.

Mission

T o keep pace with the changing technology which is getting better with every passing second, the curriculum
programme has been designed with basic fundamentals which are meant to cater the needs of industry, the
scientific community and society. The mission to equip every student with the best of chemical and processing
knowledge is a small step forward which the Chemical Engineering Dept. nurtures, as the great leap of success.
Message from the H.O.D.

T
he profession of chemical engineering has to do with the chemical and process industries.

This ,in essence, concerns the economic design and operation of chemical plants. Chemical

engineering is both an art and a science. Its fundamentals draw from physics, chemistry, mathematics

and increasingly biology, which is combined with engineering art to understand and control molecular

and macroscopic processes in these diverse systems.

The chemical engineering department, N.I.T. Raipur, is committed for expansion and evolution of

discipline. The department has strong core curriculum complemented by electives in the important

engineering areas, at both under-graduate and post-graduate levels. Research is an integral part of the curriculum. The

department has sponsored projects and strong links with industries by imparting training to students. The department receives

generous support from alumni and from different sources.

The department aims to create and sustain an academic environment to aid the education of chemical engineers in order to

provide better service to the industry.

About The Department

T he Chemical Engineering department was setup in 1962. Offering both bachelors’ and masters’ has long been the strength
of NIT Raipur. It is one of the oldest branch in NIT Raipur. Today, the Department is recognized as a leading one in

India, primarily because of its strong academic programme and the breadth of its research areas. Over the years, the Department

has diversified into several contemporary areas of research, with an emphasis on chemical engineering fundamentals. The

curriculum and pedagogy have been structured to flexibility and adaptability in order to be in synchronization with the

industry and focus is laid on practical, technical and active strategic domains of chemical engineering. The Department

has established, and continues to nurture an effective rapport with the industry. Keeping in view the current and future

requirements of the academia and industry, the faculty offers a wide spectrum of courses supplemented by a number of

electives in emerging areas at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The confluence of great talent pool, distinctive

pedagogy and top-notch faculty has resulted in a string of distinguished alumni from this domain, who are occupying

key positions in the leading organizations of the country. The Department has been successfully carrying out testing and

consultancy projects for over three decades and now expects to play a major role in the development of the mineral rich

state of Chhattisgarh as far as Geological, Geophysical, Mining, Mineral and Natural Resource Management are concerned.
