Qualifications for Software Engineer
Tenacious and solutions-focused team member offers over 20 years of progressive
technical and engineering success. Background includes experience with embedded
software, object oriented, and applications programming in Windows, DOS, and UN
IX environments. Well versed in various computer languages, including C, C++, J
ava, and several flavors of Assembly. A decisive professional exhibiting strong
implementation, research, leadership, and development abilities.
Key Achievements
Provided Cumberland County, Pennsylvania with enhanced voice performance for in
ter-op and IP-based radios through improving the gateway.
Improved communications problems with Orange County, California, which resulted
in system acceptance.
Spearheaded the Manpower initiative within strict time and budget constraints.
Served an instrumental role on the BEST projects, leading other engineers to de
liver top performance.
Increased database query performance by over 100% through utilizing multi-proce
ss search algorithms.
Professional Track
M/A-COM 2000-2006
M/A-COM is a division of Tyco corporation. Among other products M/A-COM makes p
ublic safety communications systems. They are the portable radios, mobile radio
s, base stations, network gateways, and network management systems used for comm
unications by public safety organizations.
Senior Software Engineer
As Senior engineer I held two functional positions. One, as lead engineer, head
ing the Network Gateway, a network device that serves as the major building bloc
k in networking systems and establishing communications between radios from diff
erent manufacturers. Developed high level embedded software for use on public s
afety RF platforms using VOIP. The network gateway not only interfaced differen
t radios together, it also provided a PSTN ability allowing for a phone call to
be made from a standard phone to a public safety radio and back. Wrote a Goertz
el algorithm tone detection program for use in detecting tones for PSTN. Two, m
anaged enhancements to subscriber device(radio) platforms. This included portab
le radios, legacy mobile radio platforms as well as emerging mobile radio platfo
rms. Served as senior engineer for Orange County, California's mobile radio pla
tforms. Performed on-site debugging of interference problems; maintained overal
l system integrity. This work was performed primarily using Assembler and C. T
he development system was primarily windows with about 5% of the work also being
in UNIX. The radios and the gateway both used TI DSP processors and JTAG conne
ction was used to develop and debug the systems. Also used were various scopes
and analyzers for debugging.
Daymarc Corporation 1996-1999
Daymarc Corporation engineered and built gravity feed IC chip handlers. These h
andlers interfaced with test equipment to test and sort IC chips. Daymarc is no
w essentially out of business, Delta Design, a parent company, maintains their p
roducts.
Software Engineer
Directed the maintenance and overall enhancement of IC handlers. Developed soft
ware for gravity feed handlers using C, C++, and PLM. Added features to allow f
or a "ping-pong" mode, doubling IC handler testing capability. Job included atta
ching scopes to the machines to test, debug, and verify function.
Raytheon-Missile Systems Division 1989-1996
Raytheon is a defense contractor. I worked primarily in support of the Patriot
missile contract. The group I worked for was an internal tools group supporting
mostly Patriot radar development efforts.
Software Engineer
Designed and developed internal software tools, including hardware simulation, p
roject management, and utility software. Led engineering efforts for the Manpow
er forecasting project. Directed a team of engineers on BEST forecasting tools.
These were done using the UNIX spreadsheet asterix. Headed the DSP pipeline s
imulator project, creating the simulator using multiple system platforms and get
ting both UNIX and Aegis systems to work together to create the simulator. The
simulator was a mixture of C and command files linked together, with the simulat
or on the Apollo/Aegis system being the target. This included about 90% UNIX an
d 10% Aegis and other systems.
Honeywell Bull Prior-1989
Honeywell Bull was a competitor of Wang in the days when office automation was m
ainly in the realm of minicomputers. One key product Honeywell Bull delivered w
as a multiple processor minicomputer.
Software Engineer
Oversaw engineering efforts of business applications. Created a debugging tool
for Pascal programs. Managed the electronic spreadsheet as well as database-sea
rch algorithms. Took advantage of multiple processors in Honeywell Bull's minic
omputers by making the search algorithms into a multi-process task. Increasing
performance by over 100%.
