Tau l(appa Epsilon Fraternity at the University of California
In the Fall of 1968Nu Chapter had a successfu l rush and the school year of
1968-69 started off very well. Nu mmbership was above the average on
campus. YQUf Board oLContl'ol felt that the situ ation was quite good until
" , -
we-began t'o .no'tice' and·bcome acqu airi.ted with the newest" pledges.
The more we observed, th,emorewe began to feel that the Chapter had been
g
u nfortunate-in pledgin . The young men pledged were·not Teke qu ality men.
We kept observing them, and as the quarter moved along, we knew that a
hou se cleaning was in order. This was accomplished!.
This Fall there will be only five Tekes returning to the House. The house

cleaning of men that were not fraternity minded plus the large number of
graduating seniors has resulted in this low membershipJactorfor the com in g
quarter.

Arralumni work day was held at the Chapter on Saturday, July 12. Under the leadership
of Harry Smith, twenty-plus alumni cleaned the Chapter House in preparation for. the
summer rush. From the front lawn to the top deck the volunteers polished, waxed,
scrubbed and weeded. Efforts, were rewarded when they could step-:back (at the end of
the day) and see a job well done. ':( ':( Danny Costello '51, President of the Alumni
Board of COhtrol will soon be in the Los Angeles area meeting with Southern California
Tekes and planning their summer rush program.
