Tau l(appa Epsilon Fraternity at the University of California

Volume 6.8, Number 1 Berkeley, California

In the Fall of 1968Nu Chapter had a successfu l rush and the school year of
1968-69 started off very well. Nu mmbership was above the average on
campus. YQUf Board oLContl'ol felt that the situ ation was quite good until
" , -
we-began t'o .no'tice' and·bcome acqu airi.ted with the newest" pledges.

The more we observed, th,emorewe began to feel that the Chapter had been
g
u nfortunate-in pledgin . The young men pledged were·not Teke qu ality men.
We kept observing them, and as the quarter moved along, we knew that a
hou se cleaning was in order. This was accomplished!.

This Fall there will be only five Tekes returning to the House. The house
, 1
cleaning of men that were not fraternity minded plus the large number of
graduating seniors has resulted in this low membershipJactorfor the com in g
quarter.

We invite you to read the folIowing article carefully. YOUR HELP is needed.

NU NEEDS A LUMNI HELP

First of all, every alumnus is urged to step forward and work to renew the strength
0:( Nu Chapter. Your Alumni Board of Control and the five men returning in the Fall
are vitally interested in recreating a Nu Chapter that is dedicated to friendship, common '
,g·oe-ls'; divr!3Jf:j.ecLactjyities" and ii willingness to work fQrthS:LChC3...pti" ._."="..:_
Some fraternities ar'e throwing in the towel and not re,.-openirig in.the fall - thi.s is
exactly what the militant factions at Calwant us to dO. We refuse to give in. Please
step forward and help in rush. Alumni help means a lot in sorting out and making the
selection of prospeCtive members. '. There are incoming students who are interested in
fraternal living but we rnust seek them out. We must, at the same time, avoid both Ii
·
IIFreddy" and the Far· Left. We are not trying to attract the big name Iljocksi l and have.
no intention of trying, but we should' seek men who have an . athletic background because
. .
we will need a good cross-section of team players to rebuild the House. ' .

" YOU ASK, "WHAT CAN I DO?" . . . . . . FOLLOW THESE SUGGESTIONS

1., YO\1 <::an contact school officials, business acquaintances, club members, relatives,
friends and church members and obtain nall1es of men that are headed for Cal this fall.

2. " You can send their ·names in on the rush recommendation cards being sent along, '
