Employed as an Assistant Quantity surveyor during my industrial placement period
. I worked with the project surveyor and spent the initial months gaining knowl
edge of the construction industry. The challenges were unique and presented a n
ew discipline of construction, which I previously had virtually no prior knowled
ge of. I attended staff development courses on MS Office and this allowed me to
utilise the tools to enable me to devise solutions to problems encountered. As
I progressed, I was given greater responsibility and began to take the lead in
various projects producing cost reports and interacting with clients and sub con
tractors. Duties included measuring as well as checking and verifying quantitie
s. I worked on a variety of projects including health, education, retail, rail,
government.
