CEO’s Message
Dear Friend,

Time flies and we are now almost at the half way mark of the year. During these past few months we have put together several international
programmes such as The World Women Economic Forum, The World Chinese Economic Forum and the Asia Economic Summit.

We have also successfully organised the Axiata 8th ASEAN Leadership Forum in Jakarta and the Malaysian Banking Summit.

ASLI also hopes to be in the forefront of driving the development of social enterprises in Malaysia and we are glad to announce the establishment of
a Centre for Social Enterprise with Mr Wan Saiful as its Director. In ASLI's Memorandum recently to the Ministry of Finance for Budget 2012 we
called for social transformation and social innovation as part of National Transformation Agenda.

ASLI hopes to be able to contribute to public policy debate and strategic thinking through our Roundtables, Summits and Conferences.

We hope to welcome you to some of our coming events.

th
countries and China - it marks the 20 Anniversary of China-ASEAN relations and this year too, has been
designated as ASEAN-China Friendship and Exchange Year.

We have witnessed a close cooperation between China and ASEAN over the last 20 years. Both regions
have worked hand-in-hand and assisted each other to come out stronger from the 1997 Asian Financial
Crisis, the recent Global Financial Crisis, the Indian Ocean Tsunami, among many other challenges.

China is an emerging superpower, with one fifth of the world’s population coming from China. ASEAN, on the
other hand, a culturally and economically diverse region ranks as the 9th largest economy in the world, with
all the 10 countries put together. Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) forms the backbone and the driving
force of economic growth in ASEAN and China, contributing immensely in providing employment
opportunities to the region.

ASEAN and China region ~ providing them a forum to share their experience, expertise and to network and establish business linkages that will
capitalise on the vast opportunities created by the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA) which was established in January 2010.
