Sample Welcome Speech for Employee Briefing

Welcome, and thank you for joining me in launching this year’s (COMPANY)
United Way campaign.

Supporting our local communities through the United Way is a meaningful part of
our company. Last year, we raised ($) in our United Way campaign company-wide.
I’m sure many of you came here today expecting me to say a few words about the
importance of continuing the tradition of helping others, both as a corporation and
as individual employees. In fact, I will do just that.

First, I’d like to take just a moment to answer a simple question: Why do we conduct
a United Way campaign? Traditionally, United Way has provided the opportunity
for companies to run one fundraising drive that will help the entire community by
addressing a wide range of critical, local issues. The clear benefit is that one single
donation does so much for so many people in need–all at a low cost. That’s still true
today. But the United Way does more than simply channel your dollars to the agencies
and programs providing these much-needed services. They research the problems and
find the most effective partners with solutions.

As a businessperson, I know that the health of the communities where we work and
where we live has a direct impact on the health of our company and its people. I also
know that the United Way is in a unique position to energize the community–bringing
together health and social service agencies, government, business, schools and other
leaders–to help solve the most pressing problems through coordinated efforts and
innovative initiatives.

That’s why I ask you to join me once again in caring for the people of our community
by supporting United Way. It’s not across the globe, not across the country. It’s right
here. In our state, our towns, our community. So, please join us by investing in a
caring community.

Thank you.

Dear

As we begin our United Way campaign, I would like to take a moment to encourage
your support. My motivations are both personal and professional. I take comfort in
knowing that United Way touches so many people throughout our region–our families,
friends and co-workers, as well as our customers and their families.

I also know that with United Way in my portfolio, my investment continuously

multiplies, and the results could not be better. Through its Community Fund, the
United Way of Western Connecticut supports local programs. That’s not surprising
when you consider the comprehensive range of health and social services addressed
by United Way. We all care about issues like homelessness, childcare, strengthening
families, and increasing independence for our elderly neighbors. A United Way
investment is a great way to be part of the solution.

Last year, we raised ($) in our United Way campaign, company-wide. United Way
puts those dollars to work–efficiently and effectively–investing in our communities.
United Way volunteers assist in every aspect, which allows United Way to keep
operating costs low.

I am proud of our accomplishments and the impact we have made. Our support taps
into the passions and strengths of our communities, creating an environment where
people come together every day to make our region a better place for all of us to live.
I hope you will join me, to help us build a better, stronger and more caring community
by contributing to United Way.

Thank you.

Dear Colleague:

“YOUR CAMPAIGN THEME.” That’s the theme of this year’s (COMPANY NAME) United
Way Community Campaign. When you give to the United Way, your single gift reaches
countless people in your community–maybe even family, friends, co-workers and
customers.

The United Way Community Campaign provides (COMPANY NAME) employees a chance
to help provide critical services to diverse sectors of our community. Through the United
Way Community Fund, your contribution supports the vital work of local health and human
service programs. And, United Way keeps costs low – ninety cents of every dollar pledged
goes directly to people in need. When you invest through the United Way, you are making
a wise investment – one that is both effective and efficient.

Last year, our generous employees donated more than ($) to United Way. Our corporate
contribution brought our company-wide gift to more than ($). We were able to show that
as individuals, and as a company, we understand the importance of building a better,
stronger, and more caring community.

Year after year, (COMPANY NAME) employees have further demonstrated our leadership
role in helping support and sustain our communities through our Day of Caring.

More information on this year’s United Way Community Campaign is enclosed, along with
your enrollment form. The decision on whether or not to give is a personal one. However,
it is important to be aware that your single gift has the power to impact the lives of many.
Together we can build a brighter tomorrow, by investing in United Way.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
CEO
