2008-2009 Unemployed--Taking care of a family member.My son is a single parent a
nd a member of the United States Air Force. He was sent to Iraq on short notice.
I stepped in to care for my 8 year old grandson.

Position: Broadcast Production Intern:
Duties: I took part in the production of a one hour radio show which focused on
the drug problem in the Dayton,Ohio community.The one hour show aired each Satur
day morning.We discussed topics such as Crystal Meth, HIV and Aids. My extensive
education in the field of chemical dependency, mental illness, and the fact I a
m also a recovering Alcoholic, allowed me to share a differeny perspective and i
nsight to the show. My instructor Butch Brown and myself, produced daily four ho
ur show with a Contemporary Jazz format.The education I received in voice traini
ng, commercial production, and radio station management,has prepared me to work
in many different areas of the communication industry.

) Position: Internship
Duties: My education in Substance Abuse Counseling was the primary goal of my as
signment. The operation of a treatment center and the education of the clients w
ere the main objectives. The knowledge found in the 12 core functions and the DS
M IV- were the tools used to teach me how to be an effective counselor. I was as
signed to do screenings, intakes, orientation,and assessments, along with many o
ther task. During the course of the day I took part in staff meetings, group the
rapy, treatment planning, as well as the basic education of "recovery".. I desig
ned and taught relaxation class which was very successful in teaching the client
s how to simply sit still and rest.. Each day I took part in record keeping, whi
le teaching the clients other aspects of recovery. Topics such as goal settings,
crisis management, anger management, were skills implemented in the design of i
ndividual treatment planning. Because of my life experiences, and the fact that
I
havebeen sober several years, gave me the chance to be a good example for the ne
wly recovering clients to watch.

Duties: I was employed part-time by 12 Oaks to work as a Clinical Technician.
On Sundays I would speak to the families when they came to visit. I would arrang
e for a visitor from the local community to speak to the families on there exper
ences with alcoholism. I would talk with family members, explaining information
about the family decease of alcoholism. I also would help in the detox ward with
the new people. At times durning the week I would lead group meetings teaching
the AA big book.
