John 6:16-21
Matthew 14:22-33
Mark 6:45-51

This week we are going on several adventures. I want to talk to you about today
about adventure.

What is adventure? What are your ideas of what adventure means?

(Take responses from students.)

Have you ever been on an adventure? (Allow students to explain.)

The dictionary says adventure is “an exciting or remarkable experience.”

We are going to talk this week about exciting and remarkable experiences. We
are going to even have some of our own! So sit back, relax and enjoy our
adventure. Bon Voyage!

I want to tell you a story about a boat and something amazing happens! Listen
closely and see if you can find the amazing part of this story.

Mark 6:45-51 (New International Version)

Jesus Walks on the Water

45Immediately Jesus made his disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of
him to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. 46After leaving them, he went
up on a mountainside to pray.

47When evening came, the boat was in the middle of the lake, and he was alone
on land. 48He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was
against them. About the fourth watch of the night he went out to them, walking on
the lake. He was about to pass by them, 49but when they saw him walking on
the lake, they thought he was a ghost. They cried out, 50because they all saw
him and were terrified.

Immediately he spoke to them and said, "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid."

51Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were
completely amazed...

Wow! How cool. Did you hear the amazing part? What was it? (Take
responses.)

I can’t walk on water, can you? That is amazing. The disciples experienced an
adventure because that was remarkable and exciting!
I want you to remember that story this whole week. At the end of the week, we
are going to put our amazing stories together. Can you remember that story?
Why don’t you practice by telling the person sitting next to you the story…?

Let’s Bon Voyage and continue our adventure!

Lesson Day 2:
Matthew 14:13-21
Mark 6:32-44
Luke 9:10-17
John 6:5-13

Yesterday we talked about adventures. Do you remember what we learned?

(Take student responses.)

Sometimes things that seem ordinary are more than they seem and they can
become extraordinary. Let me explain.

What is your favorite food to eat? (Take student responses.) Eating dinner is a
normal part of our day. It is just ordinary – something we do every day. I want to
read you a story about dinner. In this story I want you to listen for how ordinary
dinner time became extraordinary. This story has a little boy in it just your age.
Remember listen for how dinner became extraordinary.

John 6:5-13 (New International Version)

5
When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to
Philip, "Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?" 6He asked this only to
test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.
7
Philip answered him, "Eight months' wages[a] would not buy enough bread for
each one to have a bite!"
8
Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up, 9"Here is a
boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go
among so many?"
10
Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." There was plenty of grass in that
place, and the men sat down, about five thousand of them. 11Jesus then took the
loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they
wanted. He did the same with the fish.
12
When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, "Gather the
pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted." 13So they gathered them and
filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those
who had eaten.

Okay – so what in the story was extraordinary? What was special about this
dinner? (Take responses.)
Yes – there were only five loaves of bread and two fish that fed 5,000 people.
That is pretty amazing. We call that a miracle. The people sitting there with
Jesus experienced an adventure.

I don’t know about you but I would be Going Bonkers if I had been there and
seen that miracle!

I want you to remember that story this whole week. At the end of the week, we
are going to put our amazing stories together. Can you remember that story?
Why don’t you practice by telling the person sitting next to you the story and the
one from yesterday…?

Let’s Bon Voyage and continue our adventure!

Lesson Day 3:
Matthew 8:23-27
Mark 4:35-41
Luke 8:22-25

For the past two days, we have talked about adventures. Do you remember
what we learned? (Take student responses.)

We have talked this week about adventure which is a remarkable and exciting
experience. We have also learned about ordinary and extraordinary adventures.

Today, we are gong to talk about being scared in an adventure. Sometimes,

adventures are scary. Listen to this story and see if you would be scared if you
were one of the disciples.

Matthew 8:23-27 (New International Version)

Jesus Calms the Storm

23Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24Without warning, a
furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But
Jesus was sleeping. 25The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us!
We're going to drown!"

26He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and
rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

27The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds
and the waves obey him!"

If you were one of the disciples, would you feel scared? Why or why not? (Take
responses.)

I would be scared if I was in a small boat and there was a storm. But I would
have been really amazed if Jesus talked to the storm and it stopped. How
amazing. Jesus helps us with our fear. When we are afraid or scared, we can
ask Jesus for help and he will calm our fears like he calmed the storm.

I want you to remember that story this week. At the end of the week, we are
going to put our amazing stories together. Can you remember that story? Why
don’t you practice by telling the person sitting next to you the story and the first
two stories…?

Let’s Bon Voyage and continue our adventure!

Lesson Day 4:
This week we have learned about amazing and extraordinary experiences and
even fear. How do they relate to each other? They are a part of adventure.

Do you remember that we defined adventure? What was the definition? (Take
responses.) The dictionary says adventure is “an exciting or remarkable
experience.”

I hope that through this week you have learned some neat stories about Jesus
and his adventures. More than that, I want you to know that in your life – no
matter what adventure you are on – or if it is just an ordinary day – Jesus is
always with you and He loves you.

Can I tell you one last story? You may be asking, who is this Jesus that you are
talking about? How can He be with me? I can’t see Him. I don’t know Him. But
he knows you. The Bible even says in Matthew 10:30 that Jesus knows the
number of hairs you have on your head. Cool.

No matter what adventure you are on…if you are on a cool jungle expedition,
skating across the world, swimming to far places or just having dinner – Jesus
loves you. You are always loved. The Bible explains:

Romans 8:38-39 (New International Version)

38For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,
neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39neither height nor depth,
nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God
that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Isn’t that great? We are not alone in any adventure. Jesus is with us and He
loves us. Now that is amazing!

If you have any questions about Jesus, who He is, and how much He loves
you…please let me know and I will talk with you and help you understand. There
is so much more exciting and extraordinary things that you can learn about
Jesus. Loving Jesus and being loved by Jesus is a great adventure. I hope you
will spend time learning more about Jesus’ adventures - Bon Voyage!
