PROFESSIONAL EMPLOYMENT
Senior Process Engineer, LyondellBasell Flavors & Fragrances, 2002-2010
Jacksonville, Florida and Brunswick, Georgia
Chemical/materials engineering and R&D supporting the manufacture of flavor and
fragrance molecules for use in consumer products for personal hygiene, colognes
and beverages: Achieved step-change improvements in process design and function
ality using Six-Sigma tools combined with chemical and materials engineering fun

Chemical reaction engineering: Organized and directed a Six-Sigma team whose act
ivities increased reactor yield and selectivity valued near $700,000 in annual r
aw materials savings. Achieved best-in-class reactor operability/stability via
modifications to fluid flow, reactor design, coke mitigation techniques and emul
sion logistics.
Batch hydroperoxide synthesis: Organized and managed a Six-Sigma team that achie
ved best-in-class process reactor stability and control via improved reagent and
emulsion management thereby improving product quality equivalent to $300,000 in
annual raw materials savings.
Process innovation: Independently developed novel approaches to enhance existing
manufacturing processes (for example, hydrocarbon pyrolysis and oxidation) with
little or no capital investment. Designated as the site leader with respect to
process improvements using Six-Sigma statistical methods and DOE protocol.
Computer modeling: Created an algorithm that determined optimum chemical reactio
n conversions to maximize net production of molecules strategic to Business obje
ctives and continuous improvement.
Data collection logistics: Created custom Excel spreadsheets used by Operations
to transfer composition data from various unit operations to the plant's Delta-V
distributive control system (DCS) to support quality control and continuous pro
cess improvement efforts.

Process Engineer, International Flavors and Fragrances, 1999-2002

Jacksonville, Florida
Chemical process engineering and R&D in the manufacture of consumer flavor and f
ragrance molecules and intermediates: Advocated revisions to process design, SO
P development and equipment selection. Designed and implemented innovative reac
tor modifications (for example, tuning radiant heat transfer) that improved prod
uct yields tantamount to $300,000 in annual feed savings.
Chemical surface passivation: Directed an experimental program that successfull
y mitigated fouling of structured packing in critical distillation operations th
rough the use of anti-oxidants and metal chelators.
Design, synthesis and evaluation of catalysts for the hydrogenation and oxidatio
n of terpene hydrocarbons: Managed a laboratory R&D program that characterized
the catalytic activity of hydrogen-storage alloys and various gold, cobalt, zirc
onium, manganese and nickel compounds to enhance production and decrease the cos
t of producing flavor and fragrance compounds.

Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering (tenured), 1995-1998

Mississippi State University
Funded research: Excelled as principal investigator of research in materials/ca
talyst surface and interfacial chemistry. Authored successful proposals for res
earch pertaining to plasma and adhesion phenomena, composite materials, spectros
copy, heterogeneous catalysis and trace gas sensing.
Undergraduate/graduate teaching: Engaged students with respect to mentoring, ad
