On delivery to site, all ductwork and accessories shall be stored indoor in a clean and dry
designated area.
The receiving inspection is carried out to ensure that the in coming material will not be
used until it has been inspected and verified for conformance to specification. Inspection
and verification shall be done on the Delivery order and be evidence by J2318/MRC. This
inspection shall be performed by the Sunway Construction Bhd. Site Supervisor. Rejection
or acceptance of material shall be by the discretion of the Site Supervisor with the
verification by his immediate superior, the Engineer.
6.1 Specifications
(a) Prior to the Installation of ductwork, all ductwork shall be visually inspected for
damage and to verify type of material used, size and gauge.
(c) The fresh air supply ductwork for air-conditioning, toilet exhaust ductwork and fresh
air supply ductwork for the super structure smoke spill system shall be classified
under the Low Pressure Class Ductwork (2” Water Gauge).
(d) The car park exhaust and fresh air ductwork for the smoke spill system shall be
classified under the Medium Pressure Class Ductwork (4” Water Gauge).
(e) Gauge 18 (1.2mm) hot dipped galvanized ductwork shall be used for the Smoke
Spill Exhaust and Fresh air duct.
(f) 1.2 mm thick Black Steel ductwork shall be used for the kitchen exhaust ductwork.
All kitchen exhaust ductwork shall be airtight with heat resistant and waterproof
gaskets and sealant.
(g) All elbows shall be designed to the ratio of radius (R) to width (W) not less than 0.7
(R/W> 0.7) as per SMACNA requirements.
(h) Fire dampers shall be provided for all duct penetrations through fire rated
compartments.
(b) The delivered ‘L’ shape sectioned ductwork shall be joined as per
pressure classification (refer duct construction schedule Attachment 4).
(c) Sealant shall be applied along the transverse joints and longitudinal seams for all
ducting above 2” Pressure Classification such as the Smoke Spill Ductwork. Sealant
shall be applied on transverse joints only for ducting below the 2” Pressure
Classification such as the ducting upstream of the VAV boxes.
(d) For ducting using TDC joints, gasket shall be applied to one end of each section of
ductwork prior to joining to another section. The TDC duct joints shall then be
connected with bolts and nuts. The joints shall then be reinforced with galvanized
steel clips. (Attachment 5 – Drawing No.2 )
(e) The support member shall be selected as per Attachment 4. Identify ducting route
and mark and drill holes ensuring that the maximum distance between hangers shall
be 2.5 meters.
(f) The ducting shall then be lifted and installed as per the specified height.
The in-progress inspection shall be carried out to ensure conformance of the installation
works. A “Request for Inspection” form shall be forwarded to the Sunway Construction
Bhd. representing consultant/Clerk of Work to request for testing to be carried out on the
particular work. The installation shall meet the requirement as stated in the earlier
methodology.
