Announcement Overview

Hitachi Data Systems announces the immediate availability of Hitachi Disaster Recovery Extended for the Hitachi Virtual
Storage Platform in support of open system data.

This functional enhancement is effective with the implementation of microcode level V01+1 and higher on the Hitachi Virtual
Storage Platform and delivers support for remote copy among three data centers via Hitachi TrueCopy Synchronous and
Hitachi Universal Replicator software. Supported configurations include: Cascade, Multi-Target and Multi-Target with Delta
Resync.

The release of Hitachi Disaster Recovery Extended will now allow customers to expand their replication from a two data center
configuration to a three data center configuration (1x1x1) thereby adding flexibility and security to their data resilience
strategy. This initial release of Hitachi Disaster Recovery Extended provides three data center support for the customer’s
open system data exclusively. A follow up release of Hitachi Disaster Recovery Extended planned for January 2011 will
expand the three data center support to mainframe system data as well. This initial release does not include support for any
Extended Consistency Group (EXCTG) configurations nor does it support MxNxO configurations.

The 3 data center replication support previously offered for the Hitachi Universal Storage Platform is now available on the
recently-introduced Virtual Storage Platform (VSP), the only 3D scaling storage platform for all data types. The addition of 3

data center replication further extends the scalability and flexibility of the VSP, delivering highly efficient and coordinated data
replication processes across distributed enterprise storage environments.

Business Benefits

 Flexibility – Enables broader span of replication services for multiple tiers of data
 Operational Efficiency – This complete 3 data center solution from Hitachi Data Systems is fully-integrated, saving time
and money that would be required to implement a multi-vendor solution
 Reduced TCO - single deployment of comprehensive 3 data center solution with the VSP eliminates costly ongoing
operations and maintenance of multiple disparate technologies, reducing staff hours, expertise required to operate
replication, and associated costs
 Enhanced Security - meet SLAs for data security by leveraging the data encryption capabilities of the VSP alongside
replication processes across data centers.

Availability and Ordering

The Hitachi Disaster Recovery Extended bundle for the Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform is available for ordering now in Insight
and the Partner Quote Management System.

The minimum microcode that includes the Hitachi Disaster Recovery Extended functionality is the V01+1 release which begins
shipping on December 21, 2010. This microcode release must be installed on each Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform storage
system in a 3 data center configuration and the corresponding software license key must be installed to enable the
functionality. Please contact the Product Support organization to confirm the specific DKCMAIN revision required.

Use the tables below to determine which of the Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform systems in a 3 data center configuration must
be licensed for Hitachi Disaster Recovery Extended bundle. For each of these systems the V01+1 microcode and the
corresponding software license key must be installed to enable the functionality.

As always, customers are encouraged to keep their storage system’s microcode level current to ensure that they have the
most up-to-date enhancements and fixes. Customers whose storage systems are using an older microcode release should
contact their authorized service provider for assistance in planning, ordering and installation of a more current microcode
release.

There are three basic configurations that customers may choose among when planning their 3 data center (1x1x1)
configuration: Cascade, Multi-Target and Multi-Target with Delta Resync. The following tables specify which software
products must be licensed/installed on each of the Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform systems in the 3 data center configuration.

The Hitachi Disaster Recovery Extended bundle is priced and licensed based on two factors:

 The number of Virtual Storage Director pairs in the system.

 The total used capacity = Total capacity of all source (i.e. P-VOL) and target (i.e. S-VOL) volumes for both TrueCopy
and Hitachi Universal Replicator on the system that will be replicated among all three systems.
 The total used capacity includes volumes on internal and external storage. There is no pricing differential
between volumes on internal and external storage.
 For licensing purposes the total used capacity only counts the consumed capacity for source and target
volumes hosted on thinly provisioned volumes. On-going planning for incremental license purchases must be
done proactively as the consumed capacity will certainly increase over time.

In configuring the Hitachi Disaster Recovery Extended bundle keep in mind the following:

 A minimum of 10TB of used capacity must be ordered.

 Additional capacity may be ordered using the following increments: 10TB, 20TB, 50TB, 100TB and 200TB.
 There are “capacity ceilings” defined based on the number of Virtual Storage Director pairs configured in the system.
Once this capacity ceiling is reached the customer may purchase an “Unlimited Capacity Upgrade” and then the
Hitachi Disaster Recovery Extended bundle software is licensed for use with all amounts of capacity supported by the
system. The capacity ceilings are as follows:
 One Virtual Storage Director pair = 220TB
 Two Virtual Storage Director pairs = 240TB
 Three Virtual Storage Director pairs = 260TB
 Four Virtual Storage Director pairs = 280TB
 If a customer has purchased an Unlimited Capacity Upgrade and then upgrades their Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform
by adding one or more Virtual Storage Director pairs there is an incremental charge required for their Unlimited
Capacity Upgrade license.

The Hitachi Disaster Recovery Bundle is a pre-requisite for Hitachi Disaster Recovery Extended Bundle. Note that the total
used capacity licensed for Hitachi Disaster Recovery Extended Bundle may be equal to or less than licensed for the Hitachi
Disaster Recovery Bundle based on the volumes being replicated among all three systems.

The same hardware requirements for Hitachi Disaster Recovery Bundle apply to Hitachi Disaster Recovery Extended.

Technical Considerations

This initial release of Hitachi Disaster Recovery Extended provides three data center support for the customer’s open system
data exclusively. A follow up release of Hitachi Disaster Recovery Extended planned for January 2011 will expand the three
data center support to mainframe system data as well.

Only 1x1x1 configurations of Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform systems are supported at this time. No intermix of Hitachi Virtual
Storage Platform systems with other Enterprise systems in a three data center configuration are supported at this time.

This initial release does not include support for any Extended Consistency Group (EXCTG) configurations nor does it support
MxNxO configurations.

The V01+1 code is specifically targeted at customers implementing a three data center configuration. Customers should
consult with their authorized service providers about plans to upgrade the system’s microcode.
