INTRODUCTION
This Book Explores London through Graphic Design. I feel that this book amplifies the
creative, ignored parts of our city and the people in it. I have recorded my journey through
London as designer and not a civilian or pedestrian. The book captures how I see the city
from an artistic perspective. I investigate London in 12 different ways, all the ways have
been split into 12 chapters. The 12 chapters are in fact the workshops I did university where
we experimented with the surroundings graphically. I encouraged myself to look at parts of
London that are not visible to the eye of intelligence, and notice the unnoticeable aspects of
my surrounds. I feel that this book tells my story of my experience as a designer as well as
a Londoner. I experiments with different tools and try out rules to depict and exaggerate my
research. I explored places like Old street, Elephant and castle, Hoxton, Hackney and many
other places in the city for my research. This is the first i have used photography for my
work and also the first time create a book. You can expect elements of illustration, pattern
making, photography, ideas development and juxtaposition. In the process of making this
book I believe that I have improved as a designer and my skills have been enhanced. I have
learnt the basics of making a book and also the basics of layouts. Creating this book has ena-
bled to find reason to research on other art & design books such as ‘Graphic design the ba-
sics’ and ‘Graphic design business book’. The project has also made me look at London as
a designer and working in isolation is wrong, I felt more compelled to be inspired by thing
outside my comfort zone (my bedroom). I had many difficulties with this book because of
the lack of experience I have as a designer however there is always light at every channel.
I feel that I have achieved my goal with this book. I am a Londoner who lives in between
north and central London so you as the viewer will see the two environments this book will
benefit you because you will be introduced to the deeper features of London.

Framing Texture
In this Workshop we were told to look around Elepahnt and Castle
and look for texture and patterns, we created a square cropping
utility frame out of black card. as you can see above there are some
of the textures and patterns i framed around Elephant and Castle. I
walked around and framed as many subjects to see what kind story
they told, i noticed how amplified they became after your framed
them.

I mixed up all the disciplines to see if i can tell an interesting story, i
noticed how the images play with the viewers eyes because the reduc-
tional cropping help the illusion whiles the large scale images give it
away.

My Section
this was my section of the map
i had to recreate this using only

in a green colour. i had to look
at what the other students in
my class were doing so i could

Borough Station
as i passed through this sta-
tion around 2pm i noticed how
empty it was and how hardly
anyone actually got off at that
stop.

The Northern Line

i went on a trip through the underground and recorded my journey
from Old Street to mordern. i recorded the deeper things we sub-
contiously rely on for navigating our ways around the underground.

Legs
i recorded the legs of the passangers secretly
to see the dresscode that you will find com-
monly on the nothern line. At this time of the
day the dress code was very casual

Dust Jacket
I created a prototype version of my dust jacket to see
how it would look before i made the real one. i used
an A3 peice of card paper and printed folding lines on
them to make the folding process more easier.

The Design
i took a sweep panoramics view of London outside
of my balcony. I cropped the part of the image I liked
and put the same folding lines.

Old
I walked around Shoreditch London taking pictures of buildings, i
wanted to creatre a visual comparison between the old and new.
Looking into the way we design and built structures, what materials
we use to construct our envirmonment. When observed these build-
ings i notice most of them were inspired by the ancient moors during
the dark age. Some of the buildins were present during the victorian
times.
