Wheresoever you may be, death will overtake you even if you are in fortresses built up strong and

high [an Nisaa 4:78]

On the authority of Anas bin Malik (r.a.)

"If the Son of 'Adam has a valley of gold, he would love to have two valleys, and nothing but the dust of grave will fill his mouth. And Allah accepts the repentance of him who turns to Him in penitence [Sahih Bukhari]

man is, indeed, very ungrateful to his Lord, [al 'Adiyat 100:6]

and he himself is a witness to that fact. [al 'Adiyat 100:7]

And in his love for wealth, he is very intense. [al 'Adiyat 100:8]

Does he not then know (what will happen) when all that is contained in the graves will be overturned, [al 'Adiyat 100:9]

and all that is contained in the hearts will be exposed. [al 'Adiyat 100:10]

Surely your Lord, that day, will be fully aware of them. [al 'Adiyat 100:11]
man needs to look at the horses, especially the war-horses, who risk their lives to travel under very dangerous and difficult conditions, especially in the battlefields where they follow the commands of their masters,------horses recognize and acknowledge this little favor man does to them, and are prepared to risk their lives and bear the greatest of hardships Allah has created man with aninsignificant drop of sperm and endowed him with high faculties, abilities, intellect and senses to perform various types of tasks----He [Allah] provided him with all types of food. Facilities are created for all his needs and necessities in an amazing manner. But man does not recognize and acknowledge any of these sublime favors, nor does he express his gratitude to his Creator

You are distracted by mutual competition in amassing (worldly benefits), [at Takathur 102:1]

until you reach the graves. [at Takathur 102:2]

No! (This is not a correct attitude.) You will soon know (the reality). [at Takathur 102:3]

Again, you will soon know. [at Takathur 102:4]

No! if you have had sure knowledge (of the Hereafter, you would not have been so distracted) [at Takathur 102:5]

You will certainly see the Hell, [at Takathur 102:6]

then you will see it with an eye of certainty. [at Takathur 102:7]

Then you will be asked about all the pleasures (you enjoyed in the world). [at Takathur 102:8]

The Messenger of Allah is reported to have once asked the noble Companions: "Is there anyone from amongst you who has the strength to recite one thousand verses a day?" The blessed Companions replied: "Who can recite a thousand verses a day? " The Holy Prophet said: "Can you not recite Surah At-Takathur?" Rasulullah said, 'When a person is buried and the people go away, two angels approach the deceased and ask three questions, a) Who is your lord? b) What is your religion? and c) Who is he (Rasulullah )?. A believer will answer all three questions and he will be honored with the clothing of Jannah. The window of Jannah will be opened for him and he will enjoy the sight of Jannah. On the contrary, a disbeliever will express regret at not being able to answer the questions. Upon that, an angel who is blind and deaf is appointed to punish him. Blind so that the angel does not see the punishment and feel mercy and deaf so that the punishment is not heard. The hammer used to punish a disbeliever is so heavy that it can reduce a mountain to dust. The disbeliever screams with pain and every creation can hear him besides human and Jinns.' (Mishkat)

And if you could but see when the wrongdoers are in the agonies of death, while the angels are stretching forth their hands (saying): "Deliver your souls! This day you shall be recompensed with the torment of degradation because of what you used to utter against Allah other than the truth. And you used to reject His Ayat with disrespect!'' [al An'aam 6:93] The Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said, "Verily the grave is the first stopping place for the Hereafter; so if he is saved therein, then what comes after is easier than it. And if he is not saved therefrom, then that which comes after is harder." [Hasan: At-Tirmidhee, Ibn Maajah, al-Haakim: from 'Uthmaan.]

We shall punish them twice, and thereafter they shall be brought back to a great (horrible) torment. [At Tawbah 9:101] Abdullah ibn Abbas (r.a.)has narrated that as the Messenger of Allah happened to pass by two graves, he remarkes: "The two persons who are buried in these graves are being punished, and the punishment is not owing to a sin that was a difficult matter (i.e., hard to avoid. Both of them, on the other hand, are receiving the chastisement for a misdeed from which it was quite easy to keep away). The sin of one of them was that he never tried to save himself from being soiled with urine, and the other used to speak ill of others in their absence." The Prophet then, took a green branch of date-palm, spilt it into two and fixed one piece (of it) on each grave. The Companions & (therepuon) enquired: "0 Messenger of Allah &! Why have you done that?" "It is hoped," replied the Prophet, "that the punishment of these persons will be abated till such time as the two pieces become completely dry." (Bukhari and Muslim) -Baraa b. 'Azib said: We went out with the Prophet of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) accompanying the bier of a man of the Ansar. When he reached his grave, it was not yet dug. So the Prophet of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) sat down and we also sat down around him as if birds were over our heads. He had in his hand a stick by which he was scratching the ground. He then raised his head and said: Seek refuge in Allaah from the punishment of the grave. He said it twice or thrice. The version of Jarir adds here: He hears the beat of their sandals when they go back, and at that moment he asked: O so and so! Who is your Lord, what is your religion, and who is your Prophet? Hannad's version has: Two angels will come to him, make him sit up, and ask him: Who is your Lord? He will reply: My Lord is Allaah. They will ask him: What is your religion? He will reply: My religion is Islaam. They will ask him: What is your opinion about the man who was sent on a mission among you? He will reply: He is the Apostle of Allaah. They will ask: Who made you aware of this? He will reply: I read Allaah's Book, believed in it, and considered it true, which is verified by Allaah's word: "Allaah establishes those who believe with

the word that stands firm in this world and the next." The agreed version goes: Then a crier will call from the heaven: My servant has spoken the truth, so spread a bed for him from Paradise, clothe him in Paradise, and open a door for him into Paradise. So some of its air and perfume will come to him, and a space will be made for him as far as the eye can see. He also mentioned the death of the infidel, saying: His spirit will be restored to his body, two angels will come to him, make him sit up and ask him: Who is your Lord? He will reply: Alas, alas! I do not know. They will ask him: What is your religion? He will reply: Alas, alas! I do not know. They will ask: Who is this man who was sent on a mission among you? He will reply: Alas, alas! I do not know. Then a crier will call from the heaven: He has lied, so spread a bed for him from Hell, clothe him from Hell and open for him a door into Hell. Then some of its heat and pestilential wind will come to him, and his grave will become restricted, so his ribs will be pressed together. Jarir's version adds: One who is blind and dumb will then be placed in charge of him, having a sledge hammer such that if a mountain were struck with it, it would become dust. He will give him a blow with it which will be heard by everything between the east and the west except by men and jinn, and he will become dust. Then his spirit will be restored to him. [Saheeh: Ahmad, Abu Dawud (3/4735) Ibn Khuzaimah, al-Haakim, alBaihaqee in 'Shu'ab ul-Imaan', ad-Diyaa: from al-Baraa.]
