PO Box 313, Longmont, CO 80502 | www.friendslongmont.org Longmont has a great Senior Center! I have observed that every time I go to the Senior Centerit is always clean, neat, and active. This does not happen by chance. The Senior Center is well managed, has support from the city, and has a very involved Friends organization. The Friends, a nonprofit corporation, provide supplementary funds for facility improvements, program enhancements, and program scholarships and support many other activities (see The Friends brochure). The Friends also provide support for fund raising and managing donations given to the Friends. The Friends have an annual donation drive to raise funds, and all donations given to The Friends go to enhancements of the Senior Center. We all realize that the economy continues to be sluggish, and the recovery is very slow. The "baby boomers" are here, and the Senior Center is seeing increased use of the facility. The usage of the Senior Center averages over 8,200 seniors per month. The Longmont Senior Center management is committed to providing excellent opportunities and support to the senior community. Many of those activities are available at little to no charge to the participant. Increased usage and services provided mean that it requires more money for operations. Each of us who can contribute a little something should consider doing so whenever possible. No contribution is too smalla lot of small donations add up. Donations can be made at any time to the Friends, and there are envelopes available at the front desk for these contributions. All donations to The Friends are recognized in the Senior Services catalog, in the Donor Book, and on the Giving Tree with plaques as appropriate. We have a wonderful Senior Center. It is up to each of us to support it through donations and volunteer work. Today we have a great facility, and with your support we can make it even better as it serves the growing senior population.

You may be surprised to find out how important Human Rights are to your life, and to the potential longevity of the United States. This presentation begins with a monologue in-character, followed by a Q&A with Eleanor and then a Q&A with the scholar/presenter, Susan Marie Frontczak.
on former US ambassador to Zambia, Jean Wilkowski. The title includes a 1976 quotation from Henry Kissinger, who threatened to fire Wilkowski because he claimed she was not doing her job. This presentation will argue that not only did she do her job well, but that she thereby set the stage for a major improvement in US/Zambia relations and opened the door for future women in US foreign relations. After capping off her 30year career in the Foreign Service as ambassador to Zambia, Wilkowski has remained active to this day working in education and in the private sector. In 2008, at the age of 89, she published her memoirs. Quite a lady! Professor Andy has taught full-time at FRCC since 1998, and also teaches parttime at the University of Colorado. His research specialty is US relations with southern Africa, and the influence of racial issues, but he has recently taken an interest in the contributions by women. His publications include a book on US/ Zimbabwe relations, a biography of Andrew Young, and an article about Congresswoman Frances Bolton. Professor Andy lives in Longmont with his wife, Heather, their two children, and their niece.

As we begin to relax, and accept our body, mind, and emotions, then we experience the simplicity of just being. When we practice meditation regularly, we can then return to our world with a bigger perspective and appreciation of the small moments of our lives such as glances at the mountains or a fresh breeze on our face. She will also discuss organic vs. nonorganic options, when to use vitamins, and her top five recommendations for dietary supplements. Victor Skaggs was a pastor and administrator for 40 years. Now in his 90s, he was a caregiver for his wife, has survived multiple medical challenges himself, and is still going strong thanks to his self-care skills. Jane has a Masters in Nutrition and is the lead Acupuncturist at the Health Center of Integrated Therapies.

If you eat a Big Mac, how long do you need to be on an elliptical or walk to work off those calories? How much sugar and fat is really in that fancy coffee you drink each morning? Cindy Holcomb Krafft will tackle these and other questions to demystify the relationship between what we consume and how it affects our wellbeing. Cindy is the Fitness Coordinator for the City of Longmont and the President of the Aquatic and Fitness Professional Association International. She has over 25 years experience in the fitness industry and holds numerous certifications. Cindy is also a trained SilverSneakers instructor.

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese healing system based on the principle that health is maintained by a balanced flow of energy, or chi, throughout our bodies. Acupuncture for Destressing uses ear acupuncture points to unleash endorphins which help to calm the sympathetic nervous system. This can relieve stress and cravings and reduce chronic pain. The technique not only balances the body, but brings one a sense of feeling more centered and relaxed, yet alert. Sessions are 45 minutes long and take place in a community setting.
There is an extra charge for home visits or special needs. Foot care is offered by a registered nurse and includes short foot massage, foot bath, nail and callous care. Central City Opera, Carmen
Activity # 8012.300 Date: Sunday, August 7 Georges Bizets famous story of love, jealousy, and murder, Carmen is set in Seville, Spain. The story follows the romance of the beautiful gypsy, Carmen, and Corporal Don Jos. After their relationship leads him to reject his former love, commit mutiny against a superior officer, and join a gang of smugglers, Don Joss jealousy turns to murder when Carmen leaves him for a bullfighter. Much more tragic than any opera Bizets audiences were used to and a departure from the tradition of Opra Comique, and critics denounced Bizets opera as immoral even before it was first performed in Paris in 1875. Carmen grew in popularity after its premiere and is today one of the most beloved and frequently performed operas of all time. Danny Pelzig, choreographer of Central City Operas West Side Story in 2008, will direct Carmen. You may want to eat prior to departure; there are limited food options at the historic theater.
