THE DAY OF PENTECOST

PRAYER UPON ENTERING CHURCH
Come, holy Light, guide divine, now cause the Word of life to shine. Teach us to know our God aright and call Him Father with delight. From every error keep us free; let none but Christ our master be that we in living faith abide, in Him, our Lord, with all our might confide. In Jesus name I pray. Amen (Lutheran Service Book Hymn # 497, stanza 2)

WELCOME
Today we celebrate the Festival of Pentecost, the culmination of the Easter celebration. The resurrected Christ, having shown Himself to His disciples and having ascended to the right hand of the Father, sends the promised gift of the Spirit to the young expectant Church. It is the Holy Spirit who uses the Means of Grace, Word and Sacrament, to create and sustain faith and thereby enlarge the Church. The Church continues to carry out the Great Commission of baptizing in the name of the Triune God and teaching everything that the Lord has commanded us to teach so that it might be the source of living water for those who are spiritually thirsty. Welcome to everyone gathered here this day for worship. We ask that everyone fill out an attendance registration card found at each pew and return it to an Usher as the Offering is collected. Children are welcome in our Service and will be invited to come forward for a Childrens Message. Parents may accompany them. A nursery for infants and toddlers is located downstairs for anyone who has need. We invite you to come and worship with us again.

HOLY COMMUNION
Holy Communion will be celebrated in the 8:15 Service today. In this sacrament we receive Christs very body and blood for the forgiveness of sins. Those who are not members of Grace are asked to speak with our Pastor before partaking of this sacrament so that the unity of faith might be established. Thank you for honoring this request.

AS WE GATHER
Come Holy Spirit! Pentecost is the birthday of the Christian Church. This celebration takes place 50 days after Easter (the word Pentecost means 50th day). On this day the Holy Spirit was poured out in a powerful way on Jesus disciples to enable them to proclaim the Gospel and to bring peace in the midst of the confusion of mans sinfulness. The tongues of fire that were seen above the heads of the disciples and the sound like a mighty rushing wind were a sign of Gods presence and were used to get that attention of all those who were present for the celebration of the Harvest Festival. This Old Testament celebration has become a celebration for the New Testament people of God as we celebrate this special out-pouring of the Holy Spirit.

NEXT WEEKS READINGS - The appointed readings for next Sunday, June 19th, The Holy Trinity, First Sunday after Pentecost: The Old Testament Reading: Genesis 1:12:4a, The Epistle Reading: Acts 2:14a, 22-36, and The Gospel Reading: Matthew 28:1620.

sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.

Holy Gospel
P The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the seventh chapter.

John 7:3739

The reading of the Holy Gospel. P This is the Gospel of the Lord.

God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life T of the world to come. Amen

The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

Prayer of Thanksgiving
P Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior. With repentant joy we receive the salvation accomplished for us by the all-availing sacrifice of His body and His blood on the cross. Gathered in the name and the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us faithfully to eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us do in His own testament. Gather us together, we pray, from the ends of the earth to celebrate with all the faithful the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end. Graciously receive our prayers; deliver and preserve us. To You alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C Amen

Proper Preface
P It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who ascended above the heavens and, sitting at Your right hand, poured out on this day the promised Holy Spirit on His chosen disciples. For all this the whole earth rejoices with exceeding joy. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying:

Sanctus

Isaiah 6:3; Matthew 21:9

P Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: Take, eat; this is My T body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me. In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My T blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.

Proclamation of Christ

1 Corinthians 11:26; Revelation 22:20

P As often as we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lords death until He comes. C Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. P O Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, in giving us Your body and blood to eat and to drink, You lead us to remember and confess Your holy cross and passion, Your blessed death, Your rest in the tomb, Your resurrection from the dead, Your ascension into heaven, and Your coming for the final judgment. So remember us in Your kingdom and teach us to pray:
