United Telecoms Ltd (UTL) has established GBBN - a high-capacity, end to end fiber, next generation network, in association with Government of Goa(GoG), to make Broadband services available to entire rural population in all 189 Village Panchayats and 414 Villages and towns Also links all the Govt offices across the State of Goa including all the 189 village panchayat offices, South and North districts, 11 Talukas, and 13 municipalities. Govt is in the process of extending Broadband connectivity to 2119 schools, 24 colleges, 32 government hospitals and 123 private hospitals which are in a phased manner GBBN was Inaugurated by our Honorable Prime Minister on 27th Dec 2007, Because of this initiative, Goa has the distinction of being the only state extending Broadband connectivity ( 1 GB ) to 100% Panchayats. This has empowered the panchayats to provide all essential Government to Citizen(G2C) services, Applications and Portals which can be accessed through various panchayats and CSCs. UTLs GBBN has helped bridging the digitak divide and promoting pervasive use of IT in all matters of the State. UTL established this all fiber network across the length and breadth of the State up to the village level. It also provides at least 1 GB connectivity to all the Government offices/educational and research institutions. GBBN provides appropriate connectivity to business enterprises. Appropriate amount of Internet Bandwidth is planned for providing

internet connectivity through GBBN up to village level. GBBN is created to have a secure, reliable and accessible State-wide information superhighway to reach up to village level , sustained through an expanding set of digital services transforming Goa into a fully connected digital State. provide broadband network infrastructure with Optic Fiber Cable connectivity coupled with wireless connectivity as needed, throughout the State of Goa. provide 10 Gbps connectivity from the State Headquarters/ District Headquaters upto the Taluka (Block) level, and 1 Gbps connectivity from Taluka level to village level and 10 Mbps connectivity to the household level and connects all the Government offices with a bandwidth of 1 Gbps. To create a secure, reliable and accessible State-wide information superhighway sustained through an expanding set of digital services transforming Goa into a fully connected digital State. All SWANs backbone is max of 8Mbps whereas GBBN has 10Gb mesh Backbone.This backbone capacity can be increased easily to cope with future requirements with out difficulty. 720Gbps Bandwidth Throughput available even at Taluka POP, whereas other SWAN has hardly 64Kbps available at THQs Many value added services are being / can be introduced like Telemedicine, eLearning, VOD and truly interactive services to Rural population also. All the New Technologies can be tried, tested and implemented since GBBN Network has abundance of Bandwidth Network is expandable to connect any numbers of Government departments, businesses and households in the future.
