From our Pastor

Why do we do church? What is our purpose? Is there a reason behind everything we do? Surprisingly, many believe the church exists to meet the needs of the members. But Jesus said, Those who want to come with me must say no to the things they want. When we become a part of the church, we give up our rights and our wants. Its no longer about us. Others say that the church exists to glorify God, and that is certainly true. Everything that exists not only owes its existence to God, but exists solely to bring glory to God. That theme is found throughout the scriptures from the very first page to the very last page. But the question is: How do we glorify God? There are many ways, but Jesus said, By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit. I am convinced the number one way that the church can glorify our heavenly Father is to introduce as many people as possible to His son. Our focus as a church should be on connecting those who are lost, with the One we know as the way. Jesus illustrated this in a story in Luke 15:1-7. All the tax collectors and sinners came to listen to Jesus. But the Pharisees and the scribes complained, This man welcomes sinners and eats with them. Jesus spoke to them using this illustration: Suppose a man has 100 sheep and loses one of them. Doesnt he leave the 99 sheep grazing in the pasture and look for the lost sheep until he finds it? When he finds it, hes happy. He puts that sheep on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says to them, Lets celebrate! Ive found my lost sheep! I can guarantee that there will be more happiness in heaven over one person who turns to God and changes the way he thinks and acts than over 99 people who already have turned to God and have his approval. Later on Jesus said, The Son of Man has come to seek and to save people who are lost. Do you think we should have the same mission, the same purpose, the same desire as our Savior? Its not about us. We have already turned to God. We are now focusing our attention on those who havent been found. Will you partner with me? Are you willing to say, Whatever it takes to glorify God and reach the lost, I am willing to do? I hope so. Excited about the future,

World Changers 2010: Lives Changed

World Changers was an amazing experience. I loved being able to work with my friends, help a woman in desperate need of a new roof, minister to the sweetest kids you will ever meet, and do Gods work all during the same trip. I am so thankful that I was able to go to World Changers. While on the trip, God showed me His calling in my life, and I surrendered to be a full time missionary. World Changers is changing one life at a time, and it definitely changed mine! Jessica Ann Hunt I had an amazing experience at World Changers. By serving others on the trip, God opened my eyes to all the hurt and suffering that so many others are experiencing. This experience encouraged me to continue to serve God by serving others. April Horne Jesus ultimate goal while on earth was to serve others. World Changers helped me get a little taste of how Jesus lived. If you want to be great in Gods kingdom, you must learn to be the servant. Aaron Twitty

Pray for VBS: June 2125

Please pray for the children, parents, and volunteers participating in VBS this week. Use these suggestions to guide you. Day 1: Pray that kids will begin to understand that if they have questions, they can ask God for the answers. Pray that each child will see that they are indeed Gods greatest creation. Day 2: Ask God to remind kids that He cares for them no matter what circumstances they are in. Pray that God will fill them with His peace and that kids wont be afraid to cast all their cares upon Him. Day 3: Pray for the kids who do not know Jesus as their Savior and Lord. Ask that God will begin to reveal His plan for their lives in His timing. Day 4: Ask God to reveal ways for the kids to be like Jesus. Pray that He will give them compassion for others and a giving spirit.

If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. James 1:5
Day 5: Pray that the kids will take all that theyve seen and heard this week at VBS and use it to make a difference in their daily lives. Ask God to give each child the courage to do what honors Him.

Northside Kids Rotational Teaching

From Parents:

Model A Hit!

Weve made some changes in the way we teach children at Northside, and heres what parents have to say about it
From Teachers:
were there to build bears, not for themselves, but to give them ALL AWAY to children at Connie Maxwell, she was brought to tears. She couldnt believe that children of that age would be so giving, and she even said that it was so encouraging to SEE a church being the hands and feet of Christ. She also shared that she had grown up in church but had gotten complacent and slipped into a routine that didnt include church. It was so amazing to see how God used Build-A-Bear to show the true love of Christ to this lady. Build-A-Bear opened opportunities for discussion in our family, as both our children had fun, learned about giving to others and missions, and were able to serve our Holy LORD first hand, (not just watching mom and dad serve Him.) After hearing my girls talk about what they learned and did through BuildA-Bear, I just wish I could have been in on the delivery to Connie Maxwell! Thank you for organizing the bear gifts. We are having a good time sorting the bears with the birth certificates and notes. We will be distributing these to the children and will have some to give to new students as they arrive. This is a very thoughtful and loving gift. We appreciate all your efforts and those of your church to make this happen for the boys and girls in our care. Thanks so much! Polly Davis at Connie Maxwell

The repetition of the rotation is helping the kids remember the message. They are learning through projects and not just hearing. My kids are now able to discuss in more detail what was taught in Sunday School! It has generated a lot more dialog in our home. My girls are gaining a greater appreciation for the things they sometimes take for granted. I have seen a greater desire for my older children to stay in Kids Worship in a time designed especially to minister to them on their level. The ride home from church has changed from fussing about belongings and space, to excited discussions about projects and truths learned in class that day! I noticed a big difference after church today: My sons typical response when asked about the morning lesson would be, I dont know, or I cant remember; but with the new way, he learned how an apple was like God. The skin was God, the middle part was Jesus and the seeds were the Holy Spirit. Later in the day, it was still on his mind because he asked if the Holy Spirit was there when God created the Earth. I am so excited that what he learned on Sunday had an impact and it seemed to sink in!

The new format is going great; it has allowed me and my wife to grow relationships with families. Our class seems so much more engaged and attentive on Sunday mornings, and we have been free to focus more on the children. We love these kids and are very excited about what God is doing with us and with the kids. If you havent had a chance to see whats going on in Northside Kids, I encourage you to come on up and be blessed!

Weve noticed that the normal interruptions such as bathroom breaks and trips to the water fountain are getting fewer and farther between as the kids are becoming engaged and excited about the things they are learning! Kids who dont normally stay for Kids Worship are now begging their friends to stay with them. These Bible lessons help the kids expand their understanding of the content and encourages them to see the Bible as appropriate and tangible to their every day lives. It feels like a team effort now instead of the exhausted efforts of a few!

From Missions Projects:

The Build-a-Bear mission project touched my family on so many levelsone of the biggest blessings happened in a conversation that I had with another parent at the BAB shop. When she discovered that Northsides mini-missionaries
