TopDeck New Integrated Electronic Standby Instrument for civil and military helicopters

When increasing safety

Lower maintenance costs
Housed in a single 3-ATI mounting, the Thales new IESI puts three essential back-up functions artificial horizon, altimeter and airspeed indicator all in one place. With three times more functionality in a single piece of equipment, the Thales IESI increases reliability by 88% while cutting direct maintenance cost by 86% compared with conventional standby instrument solutions. The reliability of an aircrafts back-up instruments is synonymous with safety. Thales is the worldwide leader in the IESI market. With more than 6,000 systems delivered to customers including Airbus, Boeing and Sikorsky, Thales IESI systems have accumulated more than 35 million flight hours and add a million flight hours each month. Capitalising on this unparalleled experience, Thales offers more proof of reliability than any other manufacturer and continues to set the standards of safety in the industry. The Thales new IESI is the first system of its kind that fully complies with DO-254 and DO-178 B DAL B standards, further increasing the level of intrinsic safety.

And more
ITAR-free system: all sensors are manufactured in European facilities. Exclusive LCD cell with increased useful display area. Embedded back-up radio com/nav control capability for removal of one more LRU. Versatile display capability for embedded nav display and dual configuration. Protected against Single Event Upset for high altitude operation. Enhanced HIRF protection. Compatible with Thales digital static magnetometer.

Added technological benefits

The Thales new IESI features extended graphic generation capabilities for fast symbology customisation, new transparent symbology and colour control and easier mock-up testing and product integration. LED backlighting significantly reduces the power consumption (less than 20 W at full luminosity) while offering high luminosity capabilities, accurate low luminosity control with quick response times, and improved homogeneity. As a result, the Thales IESI provides the pilot with the comfort of featuring exactly the same chromaticity in both night-time (NVG) and daytime operations.

NEW INTEgrATED ELEcTroNIc STANDby INSTrumENT

As part of the Thales TopDeck suite the most advanced helicopter avionics suite in the world the Integrated Electronic Standby Instrument (IESI) applies the Icube-S (Intuitive, Interactive, Integrated and Safe) concept. As a world leader in conventional standard instrumentation, Thales has combined its expertise in both active-matrix LCD technology and solid-state sensors, including inertial and pressure components, to propose a self-contained Integrated Electronic Standby Instrument (IESI). Successfully installed on a full range of aircraft both in civil and military areas, the Thales IESI has been selected by Sikorsky, (together with the full TopDeck avionics suite) to equip its new S-76D medium helicopter due to enter service in mid-2010. Specifically adapted to helicopter applications, the Thales new IESI provides the pilot with attitude, altitude and airspeed indications in a single LRU. With embedded sensors and a high-definition, fully sunlightreadable colour display, the Thales IESI delivers enhanced ergonomics and is perfectly suited to advanced glass cockpit configurations. With its compact 3-ATI packaging, the Thales new IESI is compatible with the cockpits of all new-generation helicopters, both civil and military, and is ideal for helicopter upgrade operations.
