TEACHER VACANCIES In the 2009-10 school year, there were a total of 352 vacancies in Seattle Public Schools.4 Vacancies were concentrated in schools in the Southeast, West and Central regions of the district, with 69% of vacancies in these three regions. Vacancies rates by school performance level were proportionate to the numbers of schools in each level. For example, while Level 5 schools had the fewest vacancies, there are also the fewest number of schools in Level 5 overall.

The 352 positions included 1.0 FTE as well as partial FTE positions; there were not 352 total FTE vacancies.

Teacher vacancies in 2009-10 were highest for Elementary (115) and Special Education teachers (73). Vacancies for the 2009-10 school year by job class are shown in the following table. In middle schools, the highest numbers of vacancies were for Math and Social Studies/Language Arts teachers. In high schools, the highest numbers of vacancies were for Math and Science teachers.
