Venn diagram ( problems) 1. Twenty-four dogs are in a kennel.

Twelve of the dogs are black, six of the dogs have short tails, and fifteen of the dogs have long hair. There is only one dog that is black with a short tail and long hair. Two of the dogs are black with short tails and do not have long hair. Two of the dogs have short tails and long hair but are not black. If all of the dogs in the kennel have at least one of the mentioned characteristics, how many dogs are black with long hair but do not have short tails? 2. In a school of 320 students, 85 students are in the band, 200 students are on sports teams, and 60 students participate in both activities. How many students are involved in either band or sports? 3. A veterinarian surveys 26 of his patrons. He discovers that 14 have dogs, 10 have cats, and 5 have fish. Four have dogs and cats, 3 have dogs and fish, and one has a cat and fish. If no one has all three kinds of pets, how many patrons have none of these pets? 4. A guidance counselor is planning schedules for 30 students. Sixteen students say they want to take French, 16 want to take Spanish, and 11 want to take Latin. Five say they want to take both French and Latin, and of these, 3 wanted to take Spanish as well. Five want only Latin, and 8 want only Spanish. How many students want French only? 5 . Suppose I discover that my cat has a taste for the adorable little geckoes that live in the bushes and vines in my back yard. In one month, he deposits the following on my carpet: six gray geckoes, twelve geckoes that had dropped their tails in an effort to escape capture, and fifteen geckoes that he'd chewed on a little. Only one of the geckoes was gray, chewed on, and tailless; two were gray and tailless but not chewed on; two were gray and chewed on but not tailless. If there were a total of 24 geckoes left on my carpet that month, and all of the geckoes were at least one of "gray", "tailless", and "chewed on", how many were tailless and chewed on but not gray? 6 . A class of 40 students consists of 24 studying drama, 22 studying music and 15 studying both. Illustrate this information using a Venn Diagram, then use the diagram to find the probability that a student studies (a) both subjects, (b) drama only, (c) neither. 7. At the Keep in Shape Club, 35 people swim, 24 play tennis, and 27 jog. Of these people, 12 swim and play tennis, 19 play tennis and jog, and 13 jog and swim. Nine people do all three activities. How many members are there altogether?

8. Forty one students took three exams each in Algebra, Biology, and Chemistry. We have the following data: (1) twelve students failed the Algebra exam, (2) five students failed the Biology exam, (3) eight students failed the Chemistry exam, (4) two students failed both Algebra and Biology, (5) six students failed both Algebra and Chemistry, (6) three failed both Biology and Chemistry and (7) one student failed all three exams. (Note: Here is how to read this data : Five students failed Biology: of those, two failed both Algebra and Biology, and so forth.) How many passed all three subjects?

Nine contain caramel; 10 contain coconut; and 6 contain both caramel and coconut. How many of the candies contain neither caramel nor coconut. 10. If people can have Red, Green, and Blue marbles, a) how many people have Green marbles? b) how many people have only Green marbles? c) how many people have Red or Blue marbles? d) how many people have Red but no Blue marbles? if people can have Red, Green, and Blue marbles,a) how many people have Green marbles?
