INDUSTRY PROFILE PIPE TECHNOLOGY TERMS AND CONCEPTS Pipe, hollow structure, usually cylindrical for conducting materials. It is used primarily to convey liquids, gases, or solid suspended in a liquid for e.g. slurry and also used for electric wires. The earliest pipes were probably made of bamboo, used by the Chinese to carry water 5000 B.C. The Egyptians made the first metal pipe of copper c. 3000 BC until the cast iron became relatively cheap in 18th cent. Most pipes were made of bored stone or wood, clay, lead and occasionally, copper or bronze. Modern materials include cast iron. Wrought iron, steel, copper, brass, lead, concrete, wood, glass and plastic. Bending strips of steel into the form of a tube and welding the longitudinal seam either by electric resistance, by fusion welding or by heating the tube and pressing the edges together makes welded steel pipe. Seamless pipe is made from a solid length of metal pierced lengthwise by a mandrel with a rounded nose.

Steel pipe introduced in the early 20th century is widely used for conducting substances at extremely high pressures and temperatures. Cast iron pipes, which came into common use in the 1840s, resists corrosion better than steel pipes and are therefore frequently, used under ground. Clay and concrete pipes usually carry sewage, and concrete pipes are also used to carry irrigation water at 5

low pressures, for moderate pressures the concrete is reinforced with steel or mixed with asbestos. Seamless copper and brass pipes are used for plumbing and boilers because of its softness and resistance to corrosion. Lead is used for flexible corrections and for plumbing that doesnt carry drinking water. The chemical and food industries are used glass pipes. During World War II manufacturers developed plastic pipes to replace metals that were in short supply. Today PVC pipe is widely used to carry wastewater as well as certain corrosive liquids.

A pipe line carries water, gas, petroleum and many other fluids long distance in lying an oil pipeline. 40ft (12-m) sections of seamless steel pipe are electrically welded together while held over a trench. Before being lowered into place the pipe is coated with a Pumping section located 50 to 75 ml protective paint and wrapped with a substance composed of treated asbestos felt and fiber glass. as ( 80-120Km). A part boosts the dwindling pressure back up as much

1500lb perinch. The piping must be kept clean either by applying a negative electric charge to the pipe or by regular use of a pig or scribbling ball, inserted at one end and carried along by the current. An oil pipe line 6 inches (15 cm) to 24 Inches (60cm) in diameter will move it contents at about 3 to 6 ml (5-10) per hr.

Water has moved since ancient times in pipe lines called aqueducts. The first natural gas and petroleum pipe line in US. Were builds during the 19th Cent. Toay in most part of the world pipelines are as extremely important means of transporting divers fluids. The Trans-Arabian pipeline, which carried oil from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean, is over 1000ml (600 km) long. There is more than 180000 ml (288000) Km of pipelines in the United States alone.

Scope of the Study

The study has been conducted at Anantha PVC pipes (monarch) at Anantapur Survey was conducted on To study whether employees satisfied with prevalent DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL in Anantha PVC pipes.

REVIEW OF LITERATURE
28

Most producers do not sell their goods directly to the final user , between them a stand a set of intermediaries performing variety of functions. The intermediaries are a chain each passing the product down to the chain to the next organization, before it finally reach the consumer or end user. This process is known as the distribution chain or the distribution channel. Each of the element in this chain will have their own specific needs which the producer must take into account along with those of all the important end-user. A distribution as channel includes several interconnected intermediaries such - farmer service center, cooperative

societies, distributors, whole seller etc. Each intermediary receives the goods at one pricing point and moves it to the next higher pricing point until it reaches the final buyer. A channel of distribution is a bridge to cover the gap an effective channel of distribution. Distribution channel often assistance of others in orders to enable between a require the

manufacturer and consumer. So, it is very important for the company to have the market to reach its target

market. A company can he handle its own distribution functions in a better position to exercise the control over product sale and potentially earn higher profit. At present, internet has made it much easier to distribute products thus lessening the need for others to be involved in selling a companys product . Distribution channels may not be restricted to physical product alone. They may be just as important for moving a service from producer to consumer in certain sectors, since both direct and indirect channels may be used Hostels , for example may sell their service (typically rooms) directly or through travel agent, tour operators, airlines, tourist boards, centralized railway system etc. 29

A well designed distribution channel strategy takes into account the linkage between both the sales peoples activities with channel partners and the marketing managers efforts to better reach and serve end-users. The distribution channels management programmers builds a logical framework uniting marketing and sales efforts in a collaborative learning environment. This project discusses the existing distribution channels of IFFCO and the role of the farmer service centers in the distribution of the product. This project is also attempts to find out the distribution policy as well as the performance of the distribution channel on the sale of the product of the company. The project also bring out the various factors influencing the distribution of the company. For this purpose, data has been collected by one to one interaction with the officials of the Marketing Department of IFFCO. Also personally visited the dealers of the nearest area and collected the information required for the project. This project has been prepared with a view to give a comprehensive

idea about effective utilization of distribution channel through which the company has been successfully expanding the sales of the product and also to fulfill the academic requirement of MBA offered by Institute of Business Studies under J.N.T.U, Ananthapur.

Now both exploratory and descriptive research was chosen because once the data is collected and the problem has been identified, a conclusive report is given at the project. various books, magazines and newspapers and also from company
