Date: 10th June 2011 Subject: Buddhism has the answer for the unified theory! Dear Prof.

Stephen Hawking, My name is Supawan Green, age 57, the author of a few books titled: Einstein Questions, Buddha Answers, A Handful of Leaves, Do You Know What a Normal Mind Is?, A New Hope for Humankind and The User Guide to Life. I would like to say thank you very much for your recent honest view comparing our human brain to a computer. Once the components fail, that would be it; there is no after life. I am writing to you today with no intention to discuss about the afterlife. Just like you and your predecessor, Albert Einstein, who dont like to talk about details, neither do I. There is no doubt that you are following the footsteps of your predecessor to pursue a theory of everything a set of equations that described every particle and force in the entire universe. I agree with what you said: it would be the ultimate triumph of humankind in able to read the mind of God! You may wonder why I wrote to you. As I said, I have no interest in talking about details. As far as I am concerned, the notion of the afterlife, heaven and hell are merely details fitted in somewhere of the big picture. Instead, I would like to share with you the knowledge of the ultimate truth the big picture! I beg you not to dismiss me just yet. Please have a look at this illustration I created for the purpose of helping my students to see the big picture of life and their intellectual knowledge in which we are submerged.

Logic suggests that if there is any ultimate truth at all, there must be ONE truth and not two, or three. The ultimate truth cannot be conveniently owned, made or biased by different religious and scientific beliefs. My God is better than your God, my truth is better than your truth, That cant happen in the face of the ultimate truth, or the real God. As far as the ultimate truth is concerned, I hope you agree with me that it must be universal, eternal, final, and absolute in itself. It must be totally independent from all forms of established religion, and of course must not be limited by humans thought and language either. Universality must go beyond human language. Language is only the means assist us to learn about the existence of the absolute truth. Finally it is the ability to experience the ultimate truth that counts as Einstein said: experience is the source of true knowledge. Therefore, anything that is within the boundary of language will be subjected to endless and inconclusive debate in my opinion it is the same nature as dealing with the details. As far as I am concerned, Einsteins initial notion of wanting to find the absolute ruling point and his quest for the unified theory referred to the same wish. Fundamentally, the world geniuses of the past and the present want to find something that is absolute, solid, definite, ever-lasting and unchanged so that humankind can eternally and unconditionally rely on this very final certainty. These definite descriptions sound very much like the nature of the ultimate truth, dont you think? I have not a shred of doubt that the final ruling point in nature and the unfound unified theory cannot be anything else but the nature of the absolute truth, which I call the innocent perception.

May I bring up a paragraph in The Human Side, Einstein said: The religion in the future will be a cosmic religion. It should transcend a personal God and avoid dogmas and theology. Covering both natural and spiritual, it should be based on a religious sense arising from the experience of all things, natural and spiritual and a meaningful unity. Buddhism answers this description. If there is any religion that would cope with modern scientific needs, it would be Buddhism. I will state later why Einstein was spot on in his view about Buddhism. Here is my role in this massive notion. Following my enlightening experience (eureka) in 1997, I, as the Buddhas follower, am convinced that there is definitely the state of the ultimate truth, which the Buddhists call Nirvana. All the credits must give to the Buddha who, on the night of his enlightenment, found the nature of the ultimate truth and the precise means to it. Einsteins gut feeling was right in thinking that Buddhism might have the answer for humankind because Buddhism is the only establishment that can offer a direct and very short-cut means to the ultimate truth. Please understand that the concept about the cycle of rebirth, which makes up of heaven and hell is not the core teaching of Buddhism; sadly most Buddhists tend to think so. The true essence of Buddhism is rather to confirm to humanity the existence of the ultimate truth which the Buddha called Nirvana. For easy understanding and in order to accommodate humans diverse beliefs, both religious and non-religious alike, in my book: A Handful of Leaves, I therefore give people a list of 28 words or terms representing the same ultimate experience in nature, a few of which are: God, The Tree of Life, Tao, the ultimate reality, the absolute simplicity, eternity, the final frontier, here and now including my own coinage: the innocent perception. I hope you can see that my mission aims to unite humankind. Not only the Buddha confirmed to us about the existence of the ultimate entity, he also gave us the means to attain that One truth. The means is the practice of the four foundations of mindfulness or vipassana, which have been practised by at least 100 million people globally. My role is to simplify the core Buddhist teaching into the language and approach that people of today can understand and practice. That has led me to invent my own terminologies: the innocent perception to replace the term Nirvana or the ultimate truth and bringing our mental self back home to replace vipassana. So, the above illustration is my way to sum up the whole structure of life and our colossal pile of knowledge. Our intellectual knowledge including science is nothing more than rolling a boat in a gigantic lake not knowing a way out! We may think that we have come a long way judging from our highly advanced technology but those are merely the small details in which we are entangled ourselves and caught up. We havent yet touched the real truth. This explains why the whole world is perpetually infested with violence, injustice, atrocity and widespread wars. When you know what you dont know, its easy to locate the knowledge you want to know. But when you dont know what you dont know, you have no choice but to listen to the knower the enlightened people. In one hand, I am undoubtedly being a laughing stock to people especially to the world class physicist like yourself, on the other hand, it is worth thinking in the line of how on earth this woman a humble housewife has the courage to

write to a world genius, and bring up the enormous subject as the ultimate truth had I have no knowledge on the topic at all. I am either utterly crazy or I know exactly what I am talking about cant be both! Logic also suggests that the ultimate truth has to be simple and accessible for human people from all walks of life regardless of their religious or scientific believes and values. Thats why I have no doubt that the innocent perception is the very ultimate experience that has all the qualities fit into the unified theory that you and your predecessor, Albert Einstein, have been looking for. Judging from my invented terminology for the ultimate truth the innocent perception you can guess that I deal only with real events that can be perceived by humans senses: sights, sounds, smells, tastes and textures the very essence of scientific learning. If you give me a chance, I can clearly explain to you how you can have access to the ultimate truth. My way of explaining this huge notion is not unfamiliar to you at all, by using the comparison of the two trains running at the same speed, I can show you exactly how the ultimate truth is actually staring into our face all along but we cannot see it because we are too busy in finding the answer to this riddle: what is it that has two in a week and one in a year! The first train represents the entire universe which is moving continuously whereas the second train is the life train represents human mind (thoughts). Using our thoughts is a matter of being trapped in a time warp which either sending us to the past or the future bearing no real existence! To make both trains running at the same speed is by using our senses to perceive the sense-objects innocently (having the innocent perception), which is the moment when we can truly submerge in the here and now. At that very moment of having the innocent perception, human life form will blend in harmoniously with the rest in the universe. This human life form along with the earth will then become a tiny teeny spec of dust floating in the vast space together with the rest in the entire universe. The Buddha called this state non-self. This is also the very moment one can intuitively understand the mind of God! Indeed, the ultimate truth is hidden in the very moment when the mind is totally void of thought or language. This is the reason why both Einstein and you havent yet found the answer to the unified theory because you both delve too deeply into your tube of intellect dealing with complex thoughts and are unable to switch off your thoughts. Basically, you are too busy digging the rabbit hole! Vipassana meditation is the precise means helping us to switch off the thoughts so that one can experience the truth. It makes a lot of sense to think that the most profound wisdom in the universe has no depth at all. Thus, the ultimate entity has to be dead simple and most ordinary, so humble and simple that it is completely overlooked by intellectual geniuses. This most ironic characteristic of the ultimate experience (Nirvana, non-self) is not unfamiliar to all enlightened people mainly Buddhists. It is because they have the direct path to it vipassana! The trouble is the enlightened Buddhists traditionally call this ultimate and unconditional entity Nirvana instead of the ultimate truth. It is I, after my Eureka experience, who gains enough courage to match the term Nirvana with the more universalfriendly terminologies such as: the ultimate truth, here and now, the final frontier, God and so on. This dead simple nature of the ultimate truth has been shared by all enlightened people since the Buddhas time till the present. The knowers of the ultimate reality have been repeating the same intuitive wisdom:

If the ultimate truth is not right where we are, where do we think we can find it? It is rational and makes better sense to think that the ultimate truth must not and cannot be complex. Thats why it becomes a huge challenge for the extremely clever people like yourself and the like who are exceptionally good in dealing with complexity but are utterly useless in dealing with simplicity. I suppose I have nothing to lose even if you completely ignored my email, I will just carry on using my wisdom helping one person at a time as Ive been doing for the past 20 years. But if you could give me a chance to explain further, both you and our fellow human friends will gain enormously from this simple and humble knowledge. People listen to you because you are a world genius. I am convinced that the skill of bringing our mental self back home (the means to the ultimate truth) can truly unite humankind of all races and beliefs; it will give us hope and a dawn to World Peace. Your predecessor, Albert Einstein, had come as far as suspecting Buddhism might have the answer to his quest. You are the perfect candidate to fulfil his ultimate wish? Provided that you accept my guidance and you subsequently earn your own intuitive wisdom, your work from that point onward could then be the everlasting legacy that a world genius like yourself can proudly offer to humanity so that our children and their childrens children can live in eternal peace and harmony. As I am writing this letter, Ive just learnt about the brutal killing field in Sri Lanka happened in 2008. The world community cannot survive on its own without the real wisdom of the ultimate truth. I am sure that your genius plus the guided Buddhist wisdom can save the world community from suffering. If you talk, the United Nation will react. Please help yourself so that you can help humanity. Thank you so much for your precious time in reading my lengthy letter. I very much look forward to your reply and hopefully a meeting with you when I can show you my simple props that will enable you to know the ultimate truth. Yours truly, Supawan Green

PS. I will have to send you a copy of this email separately because I cannot send the illustration with the email as attachment is not allowed with email.
