================================== June Scripture Meditation ==================================

After He said this, He showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Again Jesus said, Peace be with you! As the Father has sent Me, I am sending you. And with that He breathed on them and said, Receive the Holy Spirit. John 20:20-22 (NIV)

Camp Wawona Updates

There have been a lot of upgrades to the camp recently. Yurt cabins are going up! There have been many volunteers whove helped in this endeavor, and we are thankful to all of them. There is also donated funds for the bath-house, and well begin construction shortly. As soon as the bath-house is completed, the yurt cabins can be used for male summer staff This will be such a blessing, as it will give them more space. More great news! We are completely redoing the Camp Fire Bowl, hopefully before summer camp begins. The new Bowl is being funded by a special gift from a family in memory of their parents, who were longtime workers here in our conference. The Bowl will have all-new seating, a more gradual incline, a new stage and new sound buildings. This will benet not only our campers but also church groups, family groups, and retreats. Also, our current enrollment for the summer is over 400, the highest its been in 6 years. God continues to bless abundantly at Camp Wawona. We always need volunteers! If you would like to help with any of the above upgrades, please contact the camp directly. We would love to have you. Thanks!

David is a worship leader and songwriter from Los Angeles, California. He is passionate about worshiping, writing songs, and living his life in a way that can change the world. He started writing at an early age, but his writing ourished as he attended Azusa Pacic University, where he would spend early morning time journaling before leading the school in worship. He has written and performed on four all-original albums: Meditations of My Heart (2005), Righteous King (2008), Christ is Born (2009) and Beyond These Walls, which debuted in 2010. This inspiring CD calls for churches to shine as a light in a dark world. His music was also featured at Saddlebacks Worship Conference on their 2008 Saddleback Song Seeker CD. Currently, David is a Ministry Artist with Heavenly Treasures, a non-prot organization dedicated to establishing Christian microenterprises to assist the poor. In partnership with Heavenly Treasures, he has traveled to Africa and Southeast Asia on mission trips and has developed the Heavenly Treasures Changing Lives Tour, bringing awareness to the poor and oppressed around the world. David combines a penchant for travel with his love for worshipping God through song, and has led worship in the Western United States and internationally in Mexico, the Philippines, Kenya, and Cambodia. Davids passion, talent, and genuine desire to spread the word and love of Jesus is evident in this music, with each song encouraging and challenging the Church today. Adventist Community Services: Helping Others in Need

HELPING WITH DISASTER SURVIVAL Adventist Community Services has engaged several donation management operations and distribution of goods, partnering with FEMA and State Emergency Management Agencies in Huntsville, Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, AL and Collegedale, TN; also in Joplin MS, and many other places that have been so hard hit by tornadoes. Please go to their website and donate. Even $5 can help immensely. In an effort to provide much needed supplies for the survivors, we are seeking your support to send either Personal Care Kits and/or school supplies. Greig Rose is in charge of this for our church. He has prepared large plastic bags for the childrens kits and small ones for the personal use kits. It doesnt cost much to fill one of these...go to your local dollar store and you can fill both of them for less than $20.00! Fill the bag and bring it back to church. Greig will mail the bags to ACS for distribution. If you prefer to mail it yourself, locations where you can send your kits arelisted on the half-sheet insert which you can pick up at church this Sabbath. Local conference ACS volunteers will distribute the items to the areas. Please visit www.communityservices.org for further information, or you can contact me at my email address. Thank you! Pastors Corner - Whats In a Name?

==================================
Sometimes various thoughts swirl around in my mind at one time until they come together into one topic. Sort of like various types of frozen fruit in my blender becoming one smoothie. This week (as those of you who were at church last Sabbath know) Ive been thinking about the Garden of Eden and creation. Ive also been thinking about Fathers Day coming up. These topics have been spinning into thoughts about names. There is a connection. Adam was given the work of handing out names (Genesis 2:19-20), and my dad named me, so Ive been thinking about naming. Whats in a name? You might be wondering about my dad naming me. Didnt my mom have a say in it? Well, she did for my formal name, but it was my dad that came up with my nickname. When I was born I weighed 3 lbs. As the story goes, I was too little for baby clothes and they had to buy me doll clothes. Apparently my dad decided that I was so little, I didnt cry, I squeaked. He called me Squeaky and it stuck. Squeaky is a special name. There are really only three people who call me that name, my dad, mom and sister. She was ten years old when I was born and she remembers me being that small. It is mostly used by my parents though, and when they say it I feel the love in their voice. When it comes down to it, I believe that is what is in most names, love. The simple process of naming something endears it to ones heart. I named my puppy and my kitten, both grown now but special to me because in naming them they became part of my family. I love them. When Robert and I met and started dating, we came up with nicknames for each other. In essence,

we named each other. We endeared each other to ourselves. Those names (which I wont share here) are full of love. I think this is why God had Adam name the animals. He wanted Adam to care for them, to look out for them, to see them as special. He wanted Adam to love them. After the process of naming the animals, God created Eve. I believe He delayed in creating her so Adam would rst realize his great need of her, of someone like him. Only after Adam realized this need God created her and He allowed Adam to name her. Adam named her twice. First he called her woman (Genesis 2:23), and then he named her Eve (3:20). This was not to establish ownership or lordship or anything like that. Eve was created from Adams rib showing that she was to be beside him, not below him or above him. The purpose of letting him name her was so he would love and cherish Eve not just because she was human like him, but because Adams heart would be attached to her once he named her. And to all this spinning around of thoughts on names, another idea is thrown into the mix. Back at Easter time we had a wonderful service that was focused on names. We were all given a white stone from Jerusalem. These stones were to remind us of a text where Jesus gives us this promise: To him who overcomes...I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it. (Revelation 2:17) I think this text infers that the Person who gives the name also knows it. I think this is a special name that God gives us. Sort of like the one my father gave me. And all this thinking comes out in this one great theme: What is in a name? Love. And this Fathers Day, while Im thankful for the love of the one who calls me Squeaky, I will also be thankful for the One to whom I sing this song: I have a Maker. He formed my heart. Before even time began, My life was in His hands. I have a Father. He calls me His own. Hell never leave me, No matter where I go. He knows my name. He knows my every thought. He sees each tear that falls, And He hears me when I call.

(Lyrics by Tommy Walker)

That is the love of my Father, the One who ultimately names me! May He wrap you richly in His loving arms always, Sandi
