1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position and disconnect the negative battery cable.
Wait at least 90 seconds or longer before doing any work on the vehicle.
3. Remove the battery.
4. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
5. Disconnect the throttle cable from the throttle body.
6. Remove the cruise control actuator cover and disconnect the connector, if equipped.

7. Remove the ground wire.
8. Remove the starter.
9. Disconnect speed sensor connectors, direct clutch speed sensor, and the park/neutral
position switch connector on the transaxle.
10. Disconnect the solenoid connector on the transaxle.
11. Disconnect shift control cable.
12. Disconnect oil cooler hoses.
13. Remove the 2 front side transaxle mounting bolts.
14. Remove the 2 front engine mounting bolts.
15. Remove the oil cooler line mounting bolts from the front frame.
16. Remove the 3 upper transaxle to engine mounting bolts.
17. nstall a engine support fixture. Tie steering gear housing to engine support fixture.

18. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
19. Drain the transaxle/differential fluid.
20. Remove the front wheels.

To install:
21. Remove the front exhaust pipe.
22. Remove the engine side covers and undercovers.
23. Disconnect both halfshafts.
24. Remove the front side engine mounting nut.
25. Remove the rear side engine mounting bolts (remove hole plugs).
26. Remove the 4 left side transaxle mounting bolts.
27. Remove the steering gear housing.
28. Remove the front frame assembly.
29. Properly support the transaxle assembly.
30. Remove the rear end plate mounting bolts.
31. Remove the torque converter cover.
32. Remove the torque converter retaining bolts.
33. Remove the remaining transaxle mounting bolts.
34. Carefully remove the transaxle assembly from the vehicle.















35. nstall the transaxle aligning the 2 dowel pins on the block with the converter housing.
Tighten the bolts as follows:
36. 10mm bolts: 34 ft. lbs. (46 Nm)
37. 12mm bolts: 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm)
38. Coat the threads of the torque converter bolts with sealer. nstall the bolts starting with
the green bolt followed by the rest and tighten the bolts evenly to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
39. nstall the rear end plate and tighten the bolts to 27 ft. lbs. (37 Nm).
40. nstall the front frame assembly and tighten the fasteners as follows:
41. 12mm bolts: 24 ft. lbs. (32 Nm)
42. 19mm bolts: 134 ft. lbs. (181 Nm)

43. Nut: 27 ft. lbs. (36 Nm)
44. nstall the 2 fender liner set screws.
45. Connect the steering gear to the frame and tighten the bolts and nuts to 134 ft. lbs. (181
Nm).
46. Connect the sway bar brackets and toque the bolts to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm).
47. nstall the left transaxle mounting bolts and tighten them to 38 ft. lbs. (52 Nm).
48. nstall the rear side mounting bolts and nuts and tighten them to 48 ft. lbs. (66 Nm).
nstall the plugs.
49. nstall the front engine mounting nut and tighten it to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
50. nstall the halfshafts.
51. nstall the right and left engine side covers.
52. nstall the lower engine cover.
53. Fill the transaxle/differential to the proper level with Dexron , or equivalent.
54. nstall the exhaust pipe and tighten the nuts to 46 ft. lbs. (62 Nm). Connect the exhaust
pipe to the converter and tighten the nuts and bolts to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm). Always use
new gaskets.
55. nstall the wheel.
56. Lower the vehicle.
57. Remove the engine support.
58. nstall the 4 upper transaxle mounting bolts and tighten them to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm).
59. nstall the oil cooler clamping bolts to the front frame.
60. nstall the 2 front side engine mounting bolts and tighten them to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
61. nstall the 2 front side transaxle mounting bolts and tighten them to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
62. Connect the oil cooler hoses.
63. Connect and adjust the shift control cable.
64. Connect the solenoid electrical connector.
65. Connect the park/neutral switch electrical connector.

66. Connect the speed sensor and the direct clutch speed sensor connectors.
67. nstall the starter.
68. Connect the ground strap.
69. f equipped, install the cruise control actuator and cover.
70. Connect the throttle cable to the engine and tighten the nuts to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
71. nstall the air cleaner.
72. nstall the battery and connect the battery cables.
73. Check the transaxle/differential fluid level.
74. Check the front wheel alignment.
