OWN Mission Our mission is to be the leading provider of Leadership training and adventure experience by combining training concepts from defence, corporate and mountaineering sectors. We strive to provide wholesome outdoor experience that will awaken the natural instinct and leadership skills of participants.

OWNs Nurture Nature : Nature is known to be the best teacher and it is our duty to nurture nature by inculcating habits and knowledge to this effect in our participants. We seek to work with Forest and Agricultural departments to find ways in which we can help increase our forest cover. We propose to increase voluntary work in contributing to mainstream forestry in any way possible. Social Agenda : Leaders can be groomed amidst under privileged children and people with special needs. We have programs that specifically cater to such segments of our population. Orphanages, government run schools and schools for people with special needs will participate in these programs on regular basis. This will help several communities gather resources and face challenges on their own.

Traits & skills : Sharing, tolerance, bonding, courage, perseverance, humility and such other qualities are building blocks of every society. Competence, analytical skills, problem solving and decision making are day to day skills that participants will identify and experience. Nurturing these qualities and skills in every participant will be one of our core values. Role Model and Human Resource Management Need for Role Model Children need role models to learn and adapt. Experiences at a young age form the back bone of our decision making process. We learn to communicate, share and handle stress by seeing elders in the family, school are neighbourhood heroes. Our traditional joint family system provided such role models for children to see, learn and emulate. The patriarch or matriarch of the family took most of the decisions, handled pressures and stresses while running the affairs of the home. The break down of joint family system and rise of small families has created a major vacuum for role modeling. Why Survival skill is important? The ability to handle difficult situations in any sphere of human activity will eventually decide the physical and mental balance of a human being and therefore survival of the human race. For thousands of years, human beings have adapted and learnt to survive through the hard way, whereas, we parents, nowadays, take great pride in giving a very comfortable and luxurious life to our children. Such children will get no experience in the harsh ways of life and may therefore find it difficult to adjust to a tough situation as an adult let it be loss of job or handling a difficult partner. This is truly reflected in the rising incidents of depression, low morale, major health issues like BP and diabetes at a young age. Why Leadership is important? Leadership exists at all levels of the society either be it children in a small group, family as a whole or at the state level. This is one quality that has dictated the history of mankind and it will direct the future course of our world. While there are several traits and qualities of a Leader, the 3Ps of Leadership require careful attention: Power People Skills Problem Solving While there are so many ways one can learn about Leadership, we at OWN have recognized that an experiential learning program combined with outdoor experience and adventure activity can truly challenge the mind, bring about the emotional changes necessary for the participant to experience the 3Ps. The participant will experience some of these Leadership Traits:

Risk Assessment and Safety policy OWN is committed to promoting a positive learning environment that supports physical and emotional well-being of all participants. We take great pride in our safety management and risk assessment of all our outdoor programs. It is very important you understand that there are risks. OWN will do everything within reasonable means, to keep you safe. The risk of injury, even is unavoidable in the outdoor environment. Indeed, much of the value of a OWN course lies in learning how to identify hazards and adapt behavior, not only on the course, but also for a lifetime of enjoying the outdoors. Good physical conditioning and a positive mental attitude are essential. Each participant plays an important role in the success of a OWN program. Due to wide variety of programs and locations, it should be generally assumed that participants will sleep outdoors, generally in groups. Careful and meticulous planning goes into each program, the route chosen and the equipment used. Team leaders are qualified persons from recognized institutes or have great depth and sufficient experience in the area of work. Participants are briefed upon arrival, about the program schedule, terrain involved and how to take care of themselves. They are given a set of dos and donts so that they are well informed Privacy Policy Our Commitment We at OWN respect your right to privacy and shall strive to keep your personal details secure. OWN registers your e-mail ID to send newsletters, event related information and details of new course or trek program regularly. OWN Outdoor Leadership Program (OLP) for schools

Programs For Schools

Outward Bound Learning (OBL) has existed in Indian history for 100s of years. The system was better known as "Gurukul" system wherein students across social strata where brought together under a "Guru" and learnt variety of skills far away from their comfort zones. Such a system helped young people drop their inhibitions and learn from the openness. Tough situations help one develop strength and courage to deal with elements and day to day issues. Leadership potential and survival skills are groomed only through such tough exercises. The modern rush for academic qualifications has pushed the "outdoors" out of focus. This is reflected in our place in international sporting events. Lack of strength is also reflected by the rise in stress related diseases amongst young people. Of late, however, several schools have understood the need for a holistic learning platform that includes grooming of character and strength and have successfully integrated outdoor programs into their curriculum. OWN has identified certain activities that can trigger leadership and survival skills amongst students. For instance, Courage is one important quality of a leader. It is defined as the ability to do extraordinary things. One form of courage is to say "hello" to a new student walking into the school. Such a move will make the new comer comfortable and immediately at ease. The absence of such a move could make the new comer feel rejected. Another form of Courage is to say "No" to alcohol or smoke when a friend influences you to "try" it for the first time.
OLP Modules

OWN OLP programs have been carefully graded based on the objectives, age groups and requirements of the school. While most of these programs are offered in OWN campuses across India, some programs can be customized within the school campus on a case by case basis. Some of the programs offered to schools are as below: Beginner Module: This is for ages 8 and above. The beginner will receive inputs about outdoors, nature and adventure activities. The objectives of this program include basic introduction to adventure, punctuality, team spirit, understanding risk, ability to take care of oneself. The beginner is stepping into the outdoors, perhaps, for the first time. So she is both curious and uncertain, and therefore requires careful attention, support and encouragement. The first experience can have a huge impact on the growing mind and naturally will trigger the hidden leadership potential. Activities include High Ropes, basic rock climbing, trek, team activities, management games, current issues and debates, learning from nature and environment, natural science, enhancing IQ level and the like. Number of days can be customized between 2 ~ 4 days. Adventure Module: This program is for ages 12 and above. The participant of this module will be exposed to tough experiences in the outdoors. Some of the experiences will test the physical and mental courage of the participant and thus make her/him a

tough person. Great improvement will be seen in the strength and character of the person. The objectives of this module include survival skills, ability to handle failures, overcoming fear, instilling courage and confidence. Activities include night trek, tree climbing, rock climbing, stream challenge, rappelling, night survival and rescue. Number of days can be customized between 4 ~ 7 days Leadership Module: This program is for ages 15 and above. This is an excellent platform for triggering leadership traits and skills. The objectives of this program include courage and confidence to speak up, leadership skills, team building, group dynamics, selflessness, patience and tolerance. Activities include high ropes, basic adventure, group tasks, problem solving and logical thinking. Number of days can be customized between 2 ~ 7 days Environmental Sciences Module: This program is for ages 12 and above. The objectives of this module include love for nature both flora and fauna, understanding animal needs and behaviour, need to preserve nature and bio-diversity, how human greed is destroying nature, humility, patience and tolerance. Activities include interaction with tribal people, projects with nature and the like. The receptivity of the student is so high in such programs that the school may even integrate some part of their curriculum and offer the same at OWN campus with their own faculty. Number of days can be customized between 7 ~ 30 days Achiever's Module: This program is for ages 14 and above. The objectives of this module include project planning, coordination, goal setting and high physical fitness. The project is to summit a peak in Himalayas as a group. The peak chosen is medium altitude (less than 22,000 feet / 6850 m) and qualifies as a trekking peak. OWN mountaineering instructors will guide the team to the top with proper equipment and supervision. The school's flag can be planted on the summit and the accompanying memories will be cherished for a lifetime. The lessons to be learnt from such an exercise are invaluable. Number of days can be customized between 7 ~ 21 days. If you wish to integrate OWN OLP into your school curriculum, please write to: info@odysseywonder.com, chandankumarthakur@gmail.com
