The Superannuation Funds Management Corporation of SA (Funds SA) invests and manages over $A 10 billion of South Australian public sector superannuation funds and the nominated funds of approved authorities. Over the past 7 years its investment management performance has placed it in the top quartile of superannuation fund managers in Australia. Reporting to Investment Managers, the Graduate Officer Funds Management will be exposed to all aspects of Funds SAs investment activities over a two year period. As a member of a professional investment team the position will assist Investment Managers in the development, implementation and management of investment strategies for Funds SAs investment portfolios, the evaluation and monitoring of external fund managers in designated asset classes, the researching of new areas of investment opportunity, and the implementation of relevant changes to the portfolio. This outstanding opportunity will include a formal mentoring program, on-the-job training from senior managers, attendance at relevant industry courses and support of study towards relevant post-graduate qualifications. The successful candidate will have strong results in a degree in finance, property, economics, statistics or similar, sound analytical and communication skills, the ability to work effectively using initiative in a small team environment, and an interest in financial markets. PURPOSE OF POSITION
To provide general research, investment monitoring, analytical and administrative assistance to Investment Managers in: the development, implementation and management of investment strategies for Funds SAs investment portfolios, the evaluation and monitoring of external fund managers in designated asset classes, the researching of new areas of investment opportunity, and the implementation of relevant changes to the portfolio.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Initially reporting to the Investment Manager Private Equity, the position will also report to other Investment Managers on a project basis as a member of the Investment Team. The CEO leads and manages the Investment Team, co-ordinating the teams work program and instructing and guiding the team members as required. Other team members include the Manager Strategy & Research (MSR) and three Investment Managers.

ORGANISATION BACKGROUND
Funds SA is a statutory authority set up by the South Australian (SA) Parliament to invest and manage the SA Public Sector superannuation funds and the nominated funds of approved authorities. It currently has 18 employees, a Board of 7 members and reports to the Treasurer. It manages in excess of $10 billion of funds. The function of Funds SA is to invest and manage public sector superannuation funds and the nominated funds of approved authorities pursuant to strategies formulated by the Corporation. The objective is to perform this function to achieve the highest return possible on investment of the public sector superannuation funds while having proper regard for: the need to maintain the risks relating to investment at an acceptable level; the need for liquidity in the funds; and such other matters as are prescribed by regulation The Investment Team is responsible for all investment functions of Funds SA. This includes direct management of certain assets together with the engagement and management of approximately 30 specialist external fund mangers.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES ITEM 1 KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Assist the Investment Manager in the monitoring and review of the strategy for designated asset classes including, initially, the development and maintenance of a database, reporting market movement overviews, and documenting standards for market indices to be quoted in quarterly and semi-annual reporting for private equity. Assist in monitoring performance and compliance with the terms of the mandate of designated fund managers through: analysis of monthly fund manager reports, and providing administrative assistance in conducting periodic update meetings with, and the annual review of, fund managers. % OF TIME

Assist in the evaluation of fund managers to be appointed and retained in designated asset classes. Prepare summaries of meetings held with current and prospective managers. Contribute to Board Papers reviewing relevant sector strategies and recommending the appointment and termination of fund managers. Provide administrative assistance in: the preparation of legal documentation in the engagement of designated fund managers, and the review of notices of meetings and resolutions in relation to private equity. 20

Work with the Finance Team, under the guidance of the Investment Manager, to ensure the efficient transfer of funds and assets to and from existing, new and terminated fund managers. Undertake research on current issues and opportunities of relevance to the Funds SA investment portfolio for the Investment Manager. Assist the Investment Manager in preparation of other reports as required. Develop an awareness of current issues in portfolio management, asset class opportunities, domestic and financial markets and alternative fund managers through industry research and attendance at seminars and conferences.

At the conclusion of the appointment period it is expected that the Graduate Officer Funds Management will have been exposed to: Investment portfolio theory. Financial markets valuation tools. Portfolio analysis and statistical techniques. Operation of domestic and global financial markets. Funds Management risk management techniques and tools. This knowledge will be acquired through on-the-job training, attendance at relevant industry courses and participation in a mentoring program. Any post graduate studies towards this end are strongly encouraged and will be supported by the Corporation.
