The building of Samsung Sanghoe in Daegu in the 1930s In 1938, Lee Byung-chull (19101987) of the large landowning family in the Uiryeong county came to the nearby Daegu city and founded Samsung Sanghoe ( ), a small trading company with forty employees located in Su-dong (now Ingyo-dong). It dealt in groceries produced in and around the city and produced noodles itself. The company prospered and Lee moved its head office to Seoul in 1947. When the Korean War broke out, however, he was forced to leave Seoul and started a sugar refinery in Busan as a name of Cheil Jedang. After the
4

war, in 1954, Lee founded Cheil Mojik and built the plant in Chimsan-dong, Daegu. It was the largest woolen mill ever in the country and the company took on an aspect of a major company. Samsung diversified into many areas and Lee sought to establish Samsung as an industry leader in a wide range of enterprises, moving into businesses such as insurance, securities, and retail. Lee placed great importance on industrialization, and focused his economic development strategy on a handful of large domestic conglomerates, protecting them from competition and assisting them financially. He later banned several foreign companies from selling consumer electronics in South Korea in order to protect Samsung from foreign competition. In the late 1960s, Samsung Group began the electronics industry. It formed several electronicsrelated divisions, such as Samsung Electronics Devices Co., Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co., Samsung Corning Co., and Samsung Semiconductor & Telecommunications Co., and made the facility in Suwon. Its first product was a black-and-white television set. In 1980, the company acquired Hanguk Jeonja Tongsin in Gumi, and started to build telecommunication devices. Its early products were switchboards. The facility were developed into the telephone and fax manufacturing systems and became the centre of Samsung's mobile phone manufacturing. They have produced over 800 million mobile phones to date. The company grouped them together under Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. in the 1980s.

After founder's death,Samsung Group was separated into Samsung Group and three other conglomerates - Shinsegae Group, CJ Group and Hansol Group. Shinsegae (discount store, department store) was originally part of Samsung Group, separated in the 1990s from the Samsung Group along with CJ Group (Food/Chemicals/Entertainment/logistics) and the Hansol Group (Paper/Telecom). The brand-new Shinsengae Centumcity Department Store is now officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest department store in the world. Today these separated groups are independent and they are not part of or connected to the Samsung Group. One Hansol Group representative said, "Only people ignorant of the laws governing the business world could believe something so absurd," adding, "When Hansol separated from the Samsung Group in 1991, it severed all payment guarantees and share-holding ties with Samsung affiliates." One Hansol Group source asserted, "Hansol, Shinsegae, and CJ have been under independent management since their respective separations from the Samsung Group." One Shinsegae Department Store executive director said, "Shinsegae has no payment guarantees associated with the Samsung Group."

LG Corp. (Korean: LG ) is the second largest South Korean conglomerate company, headquartered in the LG Twin Towers in Yeouido-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. LG produces electronics, chemicals, and telecommunications products and operates subsidiaries like LG Electronics, LG Display, LG Telecom and LG Chem in over 80 countries. History LG Corp. founder Koo In-Hwoi established Lak-Hui Chemical Industrial Corp. in 1947. In 1952, Lak-Hui (pronounced "Lucky", currently LG Chem) became the first Korean company to enter the plastics industry. As the company expanded its plastics business, it established GoldStar Co, Ltd., (currently LG Electronics Inc.) in 1958. Both companies Lucky and Goldstar merged and formed LG. Goldstar produced South Korea's first radio. Many consumer electronics were sold under the brand name GoldStar, while some other household products (not available outside South Korea) were sold under the brand name of Lucky. The Lucky brand was famous for its line of hygiene products such as soaps and HiTi laundry detergents, but most associated with its Lucky and Perioe toothpaste. In 1995, to better compete in the Western market, the company was renamed "LG", the abbreviation of "Lucky Goldstar". More recently, the company associates the letters LG with the company tagline "Life's Good" This tagline came from Australia, where many of the products are tested first by LG. Since 2009, LG also owns the domain name LG.com. In 1996 LG formed a joint venture with IBM.This joint venture was later terminated. On 1 April 2000, LG Chemical was split into three separate companies, namely LGCI, LG Chem and LG Household & Health Care and in July 2007, LG Chem merged with LG Petrochemical

The LG Way includes LG's core beliefs, values, and aspirations. It illustrates a vision that guides the thoughts and actions of LG employees in attaining the ultimate goal of becoming a "No. 1 LG." The LG Way is reached through the practice of "Jeong-Do" Management* and LG's management principles, "Creating value for customers" and "Respecting human dignity." We said LG is Samsung competitor because : 1. Both of them have similar application and innovation, such as : - Dual - core android (LG optimus and Samsung galaxy S2) - Samsung and LG had the same electronics company in the field that favour the quality of the color and sound. 2. Their design is similar from its size.

Samsung galaxy s2 is on the right, and lg optimus is on the left

18

Size & Weight: Compare the two phones on paper and the Galaxy S2 is slightly skinnier than the Optimus 2X with a chassis thats only 8.49mm thick. But perhaps this is why the Galaxy S2 is slightly wider, measuring 66.1mm to the Optimus 2Xs 63.2mm. Weigh the two phones (any set of digital kitchen scales will do) and the Optimus 2X weighs 139g, while the Samsung Galaxy S2 (32GB) is a lightweight 116g. I know which one Id prefer to carry around.

LG Optimus 2X Samsung Galaxy S2 (32GB)

Width Height Depth Weight Camera:

123.9 63.2 10.9 139

125.3 66.1 8.49 116

In terms of imaging and video, the Optimus 2Xs 8.0 MP lens features a maximum resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels and boasts features that include: autofocus, an LED flash, geo-tagging and Full HD/1080p video recording. Theres also a front-facing camera for video calls. Its a good spec. But the Samsung Galaxy S2 matches its opponent with a 8.0 Megapixel camera of its own, as well as autofocus, an LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus functionality, face/smile detection, image stabilization and 1080p video capture. A extra camera on the front is designed for video calling. This round ends in a tie. Screen/keyboard: Headlining the LG Optimus 2X is a 4.0-inch touch-sensitive LCD display with a standard resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. It has 384000 pixels onscreen overall, which works out at 233.25 pixels per inch. In comparison, the Galaxy S2 packs a touch-sensitive Super AMOLED Plus screen thats 4.27 inches wide and reinforced with Gorilla Glass. Theres no difference in the resolution. With 384000 pixels on the bigger screen, the pixel density is lower at 218.501 pixels per inch. But the superior screen technology more than wins this round for Samsung.
19

Processor: How fast are these two handsets? Lift up the hood and the Galaxy S2 uses Samsungs own dualcore Exynos processor, rated at 1GHz. The Optimus 2Xs engine is a 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2, featuring a dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processor and GeForce graphics. Software: LG uses Android 2.2 (Froyo) on the Optimus 2X, which will be upgradeable to 2.3 (Gingerbread) in the future. Samsung ups the ante by using Googles Android 2.3 at launch, customised with the companys TouchWiz UI and Swype text input. Storage: This Galaxy S2 handset incorporates 32GB (a 16GB version is also available) versus the 8GB capacity of the Optimus 2X. Of course, the Optimus 2X also boasts an expansion slot to increase the maximum capacity to 40GB. A microSD slot on the Galaxy S2 further boosts the overall memory on Samsungs phone to a whopping 64GB. Extras: The Optimus 2X also includes GPS/A-GPS, DLNA content sharing, HD (720p) TV-out via HDMI, a digital compass and a gyro-sensor. In comparison, the Galaxy S2 piles on the extras, including: GPS/A-GPS, DLNA content sharing, Wi-Fi direct, a stereo FM radio (with RDS), optional NFC support, a digital compass, a gyroscope and an HDMI port. It also features four software hubs the Readers Hub, the Social Hub, the Games Hub and the Music Hub. The Samsung Galaxy S2 shows just what a powerful phone it is by shutting out the LG Optimus 2X in this fight. -LG launched the LG Optimus 2 x processors dual core so innovation Android with the same specifications of Samsung S2. I saw many lovers of Android LG waiting increase the size of the market in the community, but the LG still lost by Samsung in terms of sales.

Samsung M200 and LG kp 175 Both of these have same Therefore, in these two phones have a camera, a MP3 music player, microSD, camera video, Internet, Bluetooth, FM radio slot. Additional applications are also integrated. But Samsung is more expensive. In the image processing that is the Samsung M200 (Image Editor), Voice Recorder, Timer, Stopwatch, Alarm, menu transition effects, Calendar, Memo, Calculator, Converter. While the LG KP175 is a Calendar, Memo, To Do, Voice Recorder, Alarm, Calculator, Stopwatch, Converter, Flight Mode, Power Save. The internal memory of the Samsung M200 is greater (20 MB) of the LG KP175 (4 MB), though overshadowed by the presence of a microSD slot. From those article Samsung and lg has being a competitor from its quality of mobile phone and also its market size, whether now people more like Samsung that is has more interested innovation.

Nokia launches Ovi, its new internet services brand. 2008: Nokia's three mobile device business groups and the supporting horizontal groups are replaced by an integrated business segment, Devices & Services. We said that nokia is Samsung competitor because of many reasons: At the end of early 2011, Nokia and Samsung continue competing. Both are still always show the phone with the design and capabilities similar to demonstrate who appear as leaders in the mobile market of Indonesia is very dynamic in the growth of mobile phone users. We take example : Samsung Wave 533 VS Nokia C6 1.Similar design of models

Both compete because it has the same system, ie hybrid, which is a combination of a touch screen with a QWERTY keypad. Only when juxtaposed, the C6 has a size longer and slimmer than its competitors a few milli. Here you will see if the keyboard of the Samsung wave 533 more than Nokia C6. If you are using for any typing, keyboard, Samsung wave 533 feels softer. " 1. Operation system Viewed from the side of the operating system, both in fact quite the opposite. Nokia relies on the customer's operating system, the version of Symbian S40, while the Samsung Wave uses the operating system recently developed, namely OS Bada. 2. Entertainment and camera

27

Problem with multimedia capabilities, Nokia and Samsung again looks very compact. It's just a matter of audio and video formats, Nokia are a bit more complete. Relax, there is nothing to distinguish the two. But when it comes to the ability of the camera, Nokia should be proud of. If competitors still use 3.2-megapixel camera, Nokia was showing a 5 megapixel camera. Even Nokia camera Flash is equipped to make better pictures in low light room. Although Samsung didn't include an on camera flash lights wave 533. 3. Connectivity both phones are pretty stiff competition has its disadvantages and advantages of each. Samsung Wave-533 is not equipped with a 3 g capabilities, so that when you access the virtual world using mobile telephone network, it may not be as fast as the Nokia C6 was to use HSPA. But for Wi-Fi connectivity, Samsung is already dressed with these objects in the wake of 533. While not provided with the necessary means of C6, the users who like it hot spots. 4. Memory For memory, Nokia again won the competition. The Nokia products U14 glow, 200 MB internal memory are the following external memory up to 16 Gb. Although the Samsung Wave 533 has only 100 MB internal memory, external memory can be upgraded to 16 Gb. Samsung aims of slide Nokia In Time 3 years of Samsung has big ambitions for the next 3 years. Set the goal of becoming the first manufacturer of mobile phones in the world in the next three years. A position is currently held by Nokia. Nokia Samsung objectives can be overcome in terms of total product of cell phone sales. According to the information provided by the Korea Times, in order to achieve these objectives Samsung plans to increase the production of smart phones and other mobile phone to their classes premium start this year. In addition, it will also increase its market share in China and Viet Nam. The two countries are assessed will increase the demand for smart phones and tablets are very important in the year 2011. Meanwhile, in Indonesia recently released the latest Samsung in Samsung phones phone Chat with OS 322 and the Samsung Bada Wave 533. From those article, we can see that we included nokia as a competitior not because of the specific similar features in each mobile, the fact their operation system is very different although they have similar design, but the main topic is because of the market share. Market size of nokia in was reached at mobile sales in Indonesia. But now a days everything developed, people needs of technology is reaching, and people now look at the new innovation likes android that is makes their life easier.Nokias sales is decrease and Samsung that has android in their mobile product so people now more interest of Samsung than nokia and they become a competitor now.

Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB is a joint venture established on October 1, 2001by the Japanese consumer electronics company Sony Corporation and the Swedish telecommunications company Ericsson to manufacture mobile phones. The stated reason for this venture is to combine Sony's consumer electronics expertise with Ericsson's technological knowledge in the communications sector. Both companies have stopped making their own mobile phones. The company's global management is based in Hammersmith in London, United Kingdom, and it has research & development teams in Lund, Sweden; Tokyo, Japan; Mexico City, Mexico; Beijing, China and Redwood Shores, United States. By 2009, it was the fourth-largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world after Nokia, Samsung and LG. The sales of products largely increased due to the launch of the adaptation of Sony's popular Walkman and Cyber-shot series. In 2010, its market share had dropped to sixth place behind Research In Motion and Apple. Recent performance Sony Ericsson has been enjoying strong growth recently, its South Korean rival LG Electronics overtook it in Q1 2008 due to the company's profits falling significantly by 43% to 133 million (approx. US$ 179.6697 million), sales falling by 8% and market share dropping from 9.4% to 7.9%, despite favourable conditions that the handset market was expected to grow by 10% in
29

2008. Sony Ericsson announced another profit warning in June 2008 and saw net profit crash by 97% in Q2 2008, announcing that it would cut 2,000 jobs, leading to wide fear that Sony Ericsson is on the verge of decline along with its struggling rival, Motorola. In Q3 the profits were much on the same level, however November and December saw increased profits along with new models being released such as the C905 being one of the top sellers across the United Kingdom. Sony Ericsson has, as of July 18, 2008, approximately 9,400 employees and 2,500 contractors worldwide. Bert Nordberg is the president of the company since October, 2009. Sir Howard Stringer, CEO and President, Sony Corporation, is chairman of the board. History Troubles in Ericsson's mobile phone business In the United States, Ericsson partnered with General Electric in the early nineties, primarily to establish a US presence and brand recognition. Ericsson had decided to obtain chips for its phones from a single source a Philips facility in New Mexico. In March 2000, a fire at the Philips factory contaminated the sterile facility. Philips assured Ericsson and Nokia (their other major customer) that production would be delayed for no more than a week. When it became clear that production would actually be compromised for months, Ericsson was faced with a serious shortage. Nokia had already begun to obtain parts from alternative sources, but Ericsson's position was much worse as production of current models and the launch of new ones was held up. Ericsson, which had been in the cellular phone market for decades, and was the world's no. 3 cellular telephone handset maker, was struggling with huge losses. This was mainly due to this fire and its inability to produce cheaper phones like Nokia. To curtail the losses, it considered outsourcing production to Asian companies that could produce the handsets for lower costs. Speculation began about a possible sale by Ericsson of its mobile phone division, but the company's president said they had no plans to do so. "Mobile phones are really a core business for Ericsson. We wouldn't be as successful (in networks) if we didn't have phones", he said. Background of the joint venture Sony was a marginal player in the worldwide cell phone market with a share of less than 1 percent in 2000. By August 2001, the two companies had finalized the terms of the merger announced in April. The company was to have an initial workforce of 3,500 employees. Ericsson's market share actually fell and in August 2002, Ericsson said it would stop making mobile phones and end its partnership with Sony if the business continued to disappoint.

30

However, in January 2003, both companies said they would inject more money into the joint venture in a bid to stem the losses. Sony Ericsson's strategy was to release new models capable of digital photography as well as other multimedia capabilities such as downloading and viewing video clips and personal information management capabilities. To this end, it released several new models which had built-in digital camera and color screen which were novelties at that time. The joint venture, however, continued to make bigger losses in spite of booming sales. The target date for making a profit from its first year to 2002 was postponed to 2003 to second half of 2003. It failed in its mission of becoming the top seller of multimedia handsets and was in fifth-place and struggling in 2005. Beginning of the turnaround In June 2002, Sony Ericsson announced it would stop making Code division multiple access (CDMA) cellphones for the US market and would focus on GSM as the dominant technology. It also cut jobs in research and development in the USA and in Germany. In October 2003, it posted its first quarterly profit but warned that falling prices on phones and competition would make it difficult to stay in the black. Sony Ericsson's recovery is credited to the success of the T610 model. Although Sony Ericsson no longer makes CDMA cellphones for the global market, they still manufacture CDMA cellphones for Japanese market, mainly for au by KDDI. In 2011, they launched Xperia PLAY with CDMA network for Verizon Wireless in US. Following the success of its P800 phone, Sony Ericsson introduced the P900 at simultaneous events in Las Vegas and Beijing in October 2003. It was pegged as smaller, faster, simpler and more flexible than its predecessor. In March 2004, Ericsson said it would try to block its rival Nokia from gaining control of Symbian, an industry consortium that made operating software for smart phones. In 2004, Sony Ericsson's market share increased from 5.6 percent in the first quarter to 7 percent in the second quarter. In July 2004, Sony Ericsson unveiled the P910 communicator with its integrated thumbboard, broad e-mail support, quadruple memory and improved screen. In February 2005, Sony Ericsson president Miles Flint announced at the 3GSM World Congress that Sony Ericsson would unveil a mobile phone/digital music player in the next month. It would be called the Walkman phone and would play music file formats such as MP3 and AAC. Success with Walkman and Cyber-shot phones On March 1, 2005, Sony Ericsson introduced the K750i with a 2 megapixel camera, as well as its platform mate, the W800i, the first of the Walkman phones capable of 30 hours of music playback, and two low-end phones. In 2007 their first 5-Megapixel camera phone, the Sony Ericsson K850i, was announced followed in 2008 by the Sony Ericsson C905, the world's first 8-Megapixel phone. At Mobile
31

World Congress 2009, Sony Ericsson unveiled the first 12-Megapixel phone, named Satio, on May 28, 2009. Beyond On May 1, 2005, Sony Ericsson agreed to become the global title sponsor for the WTA Tour in a deal worth 88 million US dollars over 6 years. The women's pro tennis circuit was renamed the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour. Just over a month later on June 7, it announced sponsorship of West Indian batsmen Chris Gayle and Ramnaresh Sarwan. In October 2005, Sony Ericsson presented the first mobile phone based on UIQ 3, the P990. On January 2, 2007, Sony Ericsson announced in Stockholm that it will be having some of its mobile phones produced in India. It announced that its two outsourcing partners, FLextronics and Foxconn will be producing 10 million cellphones per year by 2009. CEO Miles Flint announced at a press conference held with India's communications minister Dayanidhi Maran in Chennai that India was one of the fastest growing markets in the world and a priority market for Sony Ericsson with 105 million users of GSM mobile telephones. On February 2, 2007, Sony Ericsson acquired UIQ Technology, a Swedish software company from Symbian Ltd.. UIQ will remain an independent company, Miles Flint announced. On October 15, 2007, Sony Ericsson announced on Symbian Smartphone Show that they will be selling half of its UIQ share to Motorola thus making UIQ technology owned by two large mobile phone companies.

Compatibility During E3 2007 Media and Business Summit, Phil Harrison, Sony CEO showcased a Sony Ericsson phone using the PlayStation's XMB. A select group of phones are also said to integrate into PlayStation Home (final product) During the announcement of Sony Ericsson K850, W960 and W910 some review sites have shown that those mentioned phones and future mid-range or better phones will have Media to replace the standard File Manager which will be moved to the Organiser of the phone. The Media manager possesses a UI that resembles the XMB interface found on Sony TV, PS3, and PSP products. The mobile developer site confirmed from their spec sheets and white papers that the XMB media manager is standard to the phones running Java Platform 8 also known as A200 Platform and Symbian devices like Sony Ericsson Satio and Sony Ericsson Vivaz. Operations In 2009 Sony Ericsson announced that it was moving its North American headquarters from Research Triangle Park, North Carolina to Atlanta. The headquarters move was part of a plan to reduce its workforce, then 10,000 employees, by 20%. As of that year Sony Ericsson had 425 employees in Research Triangle Park; the staff had been reduced by hundreds due to layoffs. Stacy Doster, a spokesperson of Sony Ericsson, said that the proximity to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport's flights to Latin America and the operations of AT&T Mobility influenced the decision to move the USA headquarters. Sony Ericsson will close the Research Triangle site. Environmental record

Sony Ericsson ranks 2nd behind Nokia out of 18 leading electronics makers in Greenpeaces Guide to Greener Electronics that assesses companies' policies on toxic chemicals, recycling and climate change. It is the first company to score full marks on all chemicals criteria in the ranking. Sony Ericsson is ahead of many of its competitors in eliminating chemical substances in its products and is currently finalizing the phase out of antimony, beryllium, phthalates and the very small remaining use of BFR. Greenpeace criticises Sony Ericsson's limited take-back and recycling programme, as well as its limited use of recycled plastic in its products. However, in June 2009 launched its first GreenHeart series device, the C901, which indirectly emits a 15% less of CO 2 during its fabrication and usage, compared to other SE phones. It is also packed in a small box without paper manual, includes an eco-charger, and its cover is made of recycled plastic. Sales Sony Ericsson's sales figures for Q2 2010 showed a significant decline. The Sony Ericsson phone sales volume grew over the first quarter a modest 4.8 percent. However, it was well up to the 2009 quarter volumes varied between 13.8 and 14.6 million units. We can said sony ericsson as samsungs competitor because
1. They have similar fitursand competitive edge in their products, as android, high

technology in colours and sound. And their application also. But for the web application samsung has many entertainments application more than sony ericsson. 2. Their total outlets were almost same. 3. Samsung is in the third place of market share in 2008 and sony ericsson is in the second place. Samsung also said their target is to beat sony ericsson.

This some example: Experia x10 VS Samsung wave

35

1.

Operation system

Xperia 10 works with the operating system, which started to be abandoned while Android OS 1. Samsung Wave 6 uses the new Bada operating system.

2.

Screen

Xperia X 10 should recognize the benefits of existing Super AMOLED screen on the Samsung wave.

3.

Camera

Sony Ericsson Xperia X 10 has a much better camera that works 8-megapixel camera compared to the Samsung Wave has only 5-megapixel camera.

4.

Memory

For Samsung Wave of the data storage business is equipped with an internal memory of 2 or 8 GB while the Xperia X10 only has 1 GB of memory. Both smartphones have microSD slot, but Samsung Wave has support greater memory expansion up to 32GB while the Xperia X10 is only capable of up to 16GB.

Sony Ericsson and Samsung competing in sales and outlets, but these days people just do not see the application of color and sound, which was won by Sony Ericsson, but they are looking for android that enables them in many ways, in this case the android nokia and superior operating system compared to Sony Ericsson, Samsung is now more popular society.

The first iPhone was unveiled by Apple CEO Steve Jobs on January 9, 2007, and released on June 29, 2007. An iPhone can function as a video camera (video recording was not a standard feature until the iPhone 3GS was released), a camera phone, can send texts and receive visual voicemail, a portable media player, and an Internet client with e-mail and web browsing capabilities, and both Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity. The user interface is built around the device's multi-touch screen, including a virtual keyboard rather than a physical one. Third-party as well as Apple application software is available from the App Store, which launched in mid-2008 and now has over 350,000 "apps" approved by Apple. These apps have diverse functionalities, including games, reference, GPS navigation, social networking, security and advertising for television shows, films, and celebrities. There are four generations of iPhone models, each accompanied by one of the four major releases of iOS (formerly iPhone OS). The original iPhone was a GSM phone that established design precedents like screen size and button placement that have persisted through all models. The iPhone 3G added 3G cellular network capabilities and A-GPS location. The iPhone 3GS added a compass, faster processor, and higher resolution camera, including video recording at 480p. The iPhone 4 has a rear facing camera and a front facing camera (at a lower resolution) for FaceTime video calling and for use in other apps like skype. The phone also featured a higherresolution display; it was released on June 24, 2010. In the U.S., AT&T was the only authorized carrier until February 10, 2011, when a CDMA version of the iPhone 4 launched for Verizon, it is assumed that other vendors will begin to support and sell the phone in the future. History and availability Development of the iPhone began in 2005 with Apple CEO Steve Jobs' direction that Apple engineers investigate touchscreens. He also steered the original focus away from a tablet, like the iPad, and towards a phone.Apple created the device during a secretive collaboration with AT&T MobilityCingular Wireless at the timeat an estimated development cost of US$150 million over thirty months. Apple rejected the "design by committee" approach that had yielded the Motorola ROKR E1, a largely unsuccessful[citation needed] collaboration with Motorola. Instead, Cingular gave Apple the liberty to develop the iPhone's hardware and software in-house and even paid Apple a fraction of its monthly service revenue (until the iPhone 3G), in exchange for four years of exclusive U.S. sales, until 2011.

39

Jobs unveiled the iPhone to the public on January 9, 2007 at the Macworld 2007 convention at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Apple was required to file for operating permits with the FCC, but since such filings are made available to the public, the announcement came months before the iPhone would receive approval. The iPhone went on sale in the United States on June 29, 2007, at 6:00 pm local time, while hundreds of customers lined up outside the stores nationwide. The original iPhone was made available in the UK, France, and Germany in November 2007, and Ireland and Austria in the spring of 2008. On July 11, 2008, Apple released the iPhone 3G in twenty-two countries, including the original six. Apple released the iPhone 3G in upwards of eighty countries and territories. Apple announced the iPhone 3GS on June 8, 2009, along with plans to release it later in June, July, and August, starting with the U.S., Canada and major European countries on June 19. Many wouldbe users objected to the iPhone's cost, and 40% of users have household incomes over US$100,000. In an attempt to gain a wider market, Apple retained the 8 GB iPhone 3G at a lower price point. When Apple introduced the iPhone 4, the 3GS became the less expensive model. Apple reduced the price several times since the iPhone's release in 2007, at which time an 8 GB iPhone sold for $599. An iPhone 3GS with the same capacity now costs $49. However, these numbers are misleading, since all iPhone units sold through AT&T require a two-year contract (costing several hundred dollars and including an early termination fee), and a SIM lock. Apple sold 6.1 million original iPhone units over five quarters. Recorded sales have been growing steadily thereafter, and by the end of fiscal year 2010, a total of 73.5 million iPhones were sold. By 2010/2011, the iPhone has a market share of barely 4% of all cellphones, but Apple still pulls in more than 50% of the total profit that global cellphone sales generate. Sales in Q4 2008 surpassed temporarily those of RIM's BlackBerry sales of 5.2 million units, which made Apple briefly the third largest mobile phone manufacturer by revenue, after Nokia and Samsung. Approximately 6.4 million iPhones are active in the U.S. alone. While iPhone sales constitute a significant portion of Apple's revenue, some of this income is deferred.

Three generations of iPhone, shown from behind. Left to right: original, white 3G, black 4. The back of the original iPhone was made of aluminum with a black plastic accent. The iPhone 3G and 3GS feature a full plastic back to increase the strength of the GSM signal. The iPhone 3G was available in an 8 GB black model, or a black or white option for the 16 GB model. They both are now discontinued. The iPhone 3GS was available in both colors, regardless of storage capacity. The white model was discontinued in favor of a black 8 GB low-end model. The iPhone 4 has an aluminosilicate glass front and back with a stainless steel edge that serves as the antennas. It was at first available in black; the white version was announced, but not released until April 2011, 10 months later.

The iPhone has garnered positive reviews from critics like David Pogueand Walter Mossberg. The iPhone attracts users of all ages and, besides consumer use, the iPhone has also been adopted for business purposes. On January 11, 2011, Verizon announced during a media event that it had reached an agreement with Apple and would begin selling a CDMA2000 iPhone 4. Verizon said it would be available for pre-order on February 3, with a release set for February 10. In Feb 2011, the Verizon iPhone accounted for 4.5 percent of all iPhone ad impressions in the U.S. on Millennial Medias mobile ad network. On March 2, 2011, at the iPad 2 event, Apple announced that they have sold 100 million iPhones worldwide. Leveraging solid volumes and the iPhone's high selling price, Apple became the largest mobile handset vendor in the world, surpassing long-time leader Nokia. For Example Samsung Galaxy S vs iPhone 4

Samsung Galaxy S vs Apple iPhone 4 Samsung has been providing quite a few top-class handsets recently, covering Android, Symbian, Windows Mobile and its own Bada platforms. The Samsung Galaxy S promises a lot taking the competent Galaxy and making it faster with a stunning screen. However, Apple has its new competitor on the block in the form of the iPhone 4. Screen: The Samsung Galaxy S features a 4-inch, 480x800 pixel super-AMOLED color screen. It's
42

massive and sharp and we'd say it's the best feature of the Samsung Galaxy S, and probably the best smartphone screen out there. However, the iPhone 4's 640x960 pixels, 3.5 inch Retina display with a glass, scratch resistant cover, is absolutely stunning too. The largerst, crisper screen of the Galaxy S gets our vote though. Camera: The Samsung Galaxy S features a 5-megapixel camera mounted on the back. There's no flash or an anti-shake filter, or video calling as there is on the iPhonr 4. The Samsung's camera does allow for video recording in HD though, although we're not sure how handy it will be without a flash in low light conditions. The Samsung Galaxy S also features a secondary camera on the front for making video calls. Samsung's cameras traditionally produce stunning photos, so we can expect lots from the Galaxy S. Along with the 5-megapixel camera on the back with LED flash, the iPhone 4 packs in a VGA camera on the front to allow for self-potraits and FaceTime calls. The more powerful camera on the rear even supports HD video recording, at a resolution of 720p at 30 frames per second. We see the flash as an advantage here because it means the iPhone is prepared for any low-light situation. Verdict: iPhone 4 Processor: Both the Samsung Galaxy S and the iPhone 4 feature a 1GHz processor. The Galaxy S's processor is ARM's Cortex A8 1GHz processor, while the iPhone4 uses Apple's own Apple A4 processor, alrthough it is built upon the same framework as the Samsung's powerhouse. We've seen the capabilities of Apple's A4 processor on the iPad and it performs fantastically well. Samsung has a lot to compete with in this arena, although we're pretty sure Samsung will put up a strong fight and possibly prove victorious. Operating System: The Samsung Galaxy S runs on Android 2.1, with Samsung's TouchWiz UI overlaid. It's a decent move from Android 1.6 offering Outlook support, more homescreens and Flash Lite v3.1. Android also offers full multitasking unlike Apple which is always an advantage in our eyes, especially when you factor init speedy processor. The iPhone 4 runs on the newly innovated iOS 4. Features include interchangeable homescreen wallpapers, multitasking, and a software audio controller that works with any background audio app, not just the iPod app. However, Apple's App Store will be hard to beat, despite Android catching up on the apps race pretty quickly. Verdict: iPhone 4

43

Overall Verdict It is hard to match the iPhone 4 when going head to head with any phone, but the Samsung Galaxy S certainly puts up a fight. If you can't fathom spending 500-600 upfront for a phone and want a more cost effective choice the Samsung Galaxy is a great option. It's a top quality smartphone that has the advantage of the open source Android platform in its favour. The screen is stunning and lareg enough to make web browsing a breeze, but we're not convinced the Touchwiz UI is as user friendly as Apple's.

Andy Rubin, Google Inc.s vice president for engineering, is expected to attend the launch ceremony of a smartphone here today as the company pins high hopes on the success of the new model based on its Android operating system, industry sources said yesterday. Samsung Electronics Co., the worlds second-largest mobile phone maker, is scheduled to unveil the Galaxy S in Seoul in an ambitious push to develop it into its new flagship smartphone and steal the iPhones thunder. Industry watchers said Rubins attendance at such as an event is rare, which mirrors Googles high hopes for the success of Samsungs new smartphone. Samsungs unveiling of the Galaxy S comes as Apple Inc.s CEO Steve Jobs is scheduled to deliver a speech in San Francisco on Monday (local time), which is widely expected to be a debut of the new iPhone4G.
44

Many global carriers and handset makers are getting on the Android bandwagon to boost sales and emulate the megahit iPhone, as the Android operating system is open to various smartphone makers free of charge. But so far, no Android-based smartphone has come close to replicating the iconic status of the iPhone. Apple sold 8.75 million iPhones in the January-March period alone. Korean media reported that Samsung, which is counting on its latest model to revive its smartphone business, has moved its Korea launch date forward to coincide with Apples iPhone 4G release. Apples sold 700,000 iPhones in about six months of its debut in Korea, posing a big threat to local handset makers like Samsung, which used to have a tight grip on Koreas wireless market. Another high-profile figure to attend the Galaxy S launching show is Ha Sung-min, SK Telecom Co.s president, as the countrys No. 1 carrier also has a high stake in the success of Samsungs new smartphone. During the battle last year between the iPhone 3GS model and Samsungs Omnia II smartphone, users who consume high wireless data, a key revenue source for mobile carriers, switched to SKs rival KT Corp., said Choi Nam-kon, an analyst at Tong Yang Securities in Seoul. ` S` Apple vs samsung continues Samsung alleges Apple iPhone 5 of the idea of imitating the Nexus S. Now Samsung's trying to get the latest Apple product samples for review. The debate echoes - mimic of ideas between the two giants in the field of communication technologies that Apple and Samsung seems to continue. In a previous case in April, accusing Apple iPad Samsung steal their ideas and the iPhone in terms of technology and design. This time Samsung dare accuse Apple stole their idea for an iPhone Nexus S 5 and even asked for examples of such products to be examined first. Samsung will make their desire to get the latest example of the iPhone and iPad 3 5 in advance before delivery. Nexus reported that the possibility of launching S2 with Apple's two flagship products will be the same. So to prevent mistakes "that mimic anyone" who has previously been questioned Apple, Samsung is trying to compare two products .The advance through the streets in a Court of law. Of course everyone wants to see that Apple revealed their new products so that they can be stolen. Based on those article We can see that the I phone and samsung is highly competitive and rigorous, because both are very quick to develop innovation, especially android. Both of them can said as a genious smart phone that people search for their needs. They have almost same design and innovation that only both of them have as a mobile smart phone. It makes a high competition between them. We can see the fact on their similar design on
45

the article above, Apple blamed Samsung copy paste their innovation idea, such as: icon on the screen, galaxy tab design. And also Samsung blames I phone stole their innovation idea for galaxy nexus s. It proved that both of them really have a tight competition. But like we have heard that innovation can be plagiat, and it has not trade mark beforer it came a product. They launched their similar products in same time, it proved that they are equally fast in fostering innovation, particularly in technology, and compete in it, also in terms of time. because in this case will determine the sales of products and their brand image in the eyes of society.

It would appear that Apples iPhone 4 has a battle on its hands in Korea, this is according to the pre-order sales figures for the Samsung Galaxy S II. It is claimed that the Samsung Galaxy S II had nearly 200,000 pre-orders across all 3 of Koreas major carriers between Monday, April 25th and the handsets launch in its homeland on Friday, April 29th. The majority of the pre-orders (160,000) were with the countrys largest carrier SK Telecom. Now compared with 110,000 pre-orders of the Apple iPhone 4 in the month of August just before its release, this could be considered as a win for Samsung. However, as with the USA the iPhone was confined to only one carrier at that time, which no doubt had an effect on the overall sales figures for the device. The plan by Samsung, as indicated by Electronista coming to us via Phandroid, is to get 10 million Galaxy S IIs in customers pockets by the end of this year, this is the same figure that they received for the original Galaxy S smartphone. Whilst, this number sounds huge, it is quite modest when compared to the 18.65 million iPhones that Apple shipped last winter. With a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus touch screen, fast Exynos processor, amazing battery life and more, see previous article on specs here, the Samsung Galaxy S II could be a major contender to its rivals this Summer. Based on that article we can see that both of them have a large number of markets in the Korean community in particular. This is because the android smart phone is becoming a trend there, and the colors are funny and applications are very popular there and my Samsung phone and excel in it. They compete very strict in sales and market share in the community android. Because this time, only two of those who have superior technology and additional features of interest for HTC. But in Korea alone, Samsung's superior in total sales.

Blackberry
Blackberry Company Profile
46

The company behind the BlackBerry product line The BlackBerry product line includes the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, the award-winning BlackBerry smartphone, software for businesses and accessories. BlackBerry products and services are used by millions of customers around the world to stay connected to the people and content that matter most throughout their day.

Fast Facts Founded in 1984 Headquarters in Waterloo Ontario, Canada Offices in North America, Asia-Pacific and Europe Launched the BlackBerry smartphone in 1999 Led by Co-CEO Jim Balsillie and President and Co-CEO Mike Lazaridis Reasons: Just like North America, much of BlackBerrys success in South Korea can be attributed to BBM. Instant messaging is very popular in Korea, and the fact that BlackBerry came with an IM client that acted like an exclusive club for your friends was a hit with the countrys youth. According to Ted, Koreans arent really interested in email, which you would think would spell doom for the BlackBerry brand. Most mobile interactions are through SMS, and since the QWERTY keyboard worked well with Hangul (Korean language), the BlackBerry fit nicely into the local mobile culture. Of course, there were a few setbacks. Apparently, early adopters found it difficult to receive messages from their carrier, because they were sent in a form, possibly MMS, that didnt work well with the OS the device shipped with. These kinks were worked out and the device sales kept trucking. Around March of 2010, BlackBerry App World launched in South Korea. Ted says that while there were a ton of apps available for other platforms, the BlackBerry offerings were pretty sparse. One of the few apps available included the free Korean Subway Maps app, which was decent but nothing spectacular. While we dont want to speculate on why the Korean developer community was lacking, its worth noting that many users werent signing up for data plans. Again, we dont have any concrete data, and this is purely from observation and meeting other BlackBerry users. Perhaps with all the latest announcements of new ways that developers can port their apps to BlackBerry, some of that iPhone and Android love will spill over to the BlackBerry Platform. RIM is really rocking it up this time in South Korea. Theyve managed to get the most popular boy band in South Korea, 2AM, to be featured in their new commercial in South Korea. The commercial showcase the BlackBerry Bold 9700, Torch 9800, and Pearl 3G. This video will definitely stun the Korea girls in South Korea and perhaps urge them to get a BlackBerry so they can connect with 2AM mentally. Even though this is just a making-of video, but I would say its pretty well made. I must comment on the fact that it is really smart of RIM to hire 2AM to be feature in their commercial. Commercials with famous celebrities in it are known to be very effective in South Korea. I
47

wonder how many more sales RIM got, after the release of this video. (Just like what Samsung did) Based on that article : we can see that black berry may not compete in terms of features and models of mobile phone design with samsung.because different features they offer. Blackberry offers direct berry messenger that enables people to communicate, while the Samsung offers a smart phone with the features and android. Using these two famous Korean artist icon in the making ads and make them brand ambassadors that carry implications for the Korean community and create trends. In addition, Korean singer group at this increased. Currently, it can also said the best selling mobile phone in Korea, Samsung and BlackBerry, the market is so tight they compete. It was also due to the impact of their advertising Conference September same known Korean artist. For a little while ago as almost all Korean artists use black Berry untutk chat, this makes the Korean people appear with the artist using BlackBerry and black currant sales very high end. But now, Samsung went out as a winner, because the Korean people, also as something that is colorful and diverse. This makes the Samsung to manufacture products that are produced from Korea's own, so they're more familiar with the habits and preferences of Korean. Advertisements are accepted jugta more interesting, because a lot of colors than the BlackBerry.

These touch screen handphones launch before touchscreen handphone popular. But now smartphone is already booming in indonesia, therefore samsung dare to launch their touchscreen smartphone in indonesia. Coclusion: Currently, Samsung has begun on the rise in Indonesia and in many products, due to Samsung offers the Android system and other intelligent applications in phonenya products that Samsung has less competitors in terms of technology. Suggestion: Samsung include other products such as Nori, Anycall, etc. Because the trend of Korean is rising now. The price is more expensive than indonesia because in Korea Samsung have a strong image which have been monopolied the mobile phone market from normal phone until smartphone. So, how much the price is, Korean people will think it is worth. While some product in Indonesia especially smartphone have a cheap price. According to our analysis, Indonesian people still consider android as a very good new innovation that is very luxurious and expensive so Samsung provide android phone with affordable price, it is because Indonesian is developing country which have a very high rate of teenager. For the example, when we went there Samsung it self offered android phone with affordable price. It makes us think that Samsung is a android phone that provide a product for all classes, different with other competitors. For example, Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, Sony Ericsson Xperia 10, iPhone 4Gs, and other android phones with the high prices. In Marketing theres a method that higher price with less quantity. But if it cheaper so the quantity is less. So it could be balance and stable. Conclusion: Price of Samsung smartphones in varied Indonesia and can be in almost all social classes and it is good to attract buyers. Suggestion Samsung is good and in accordance with the financial capacity of the Indonesian people who are different from the lower, middle and upper class

The Samsung Town (Korean: ) is a major office park in Seocho-gu in Seoul, South Korea. It serves as the IT and electronics hub for the multinational corporation Samsung. Samsung Electronics, Samsung C&T, and Samsung Life Insurance have built three buildings which are 44, 34 and 32 stories respectively. Samsung Town was designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox. Samsung Electronics and Samsung C&T have already begun to move into the buildings while Samsung Life Insurance is leasing its property to Samsung Electronics and other affiliates. Samsung Town is twinned with Disneyland Paris and Sony World (Tokyo, Japan). The "twinning" is only symbolic and has no legal significance. Shinsegae

Shinsegae (Korean: ) is a South Korean department store franchise, along with several other businesses, headquartering in Seoul, South Korea. The name of Shinsegae literally means

64

"New World" in Korean. Its flagship store in Centum City, Busan, is the world's largest department store, surpassing theMacy's department store in New York City in 2009. Shinsegae was originally part of Samsung Group, separated in the 1990s from the Samsung Group along with CJ Group (Food/Chemicals/Entertainment),Saehan Group (Electronic Media/Apparel/Textiles), and the Hansol Group (Paper/Telecom). Shinsegae is also famous for its long history. The main branch of Shinsegae is the oldest department store in Korea. The main building of the store was opened in 1930 as the Gyeongseong branch of Mitsukoshi, a Japanese department store franchise. The store was acquired in 1945 by the late founder ofSamsung group, Lee Byung-chull, and renamed Donghwa Department Store. After the Korean War (19501953) began, it was used for several years as a post exchange by the American army. In 1963, the store was given the name Shinsegae. ATL is the nature of 'indirect' media is about the audience, because it is limited to audience reception. Below The Line (Media Bottom Line) is any marketing or promotional activities undertaken at the level of consumer retail / with one aim is to reach consumers in order to realize our products, for example: program bonuses / prizes, events, training, etc. Seen from the viewpoint of the channel or route distibusi in korea from Supplier - agent wholesaler - retailer - consumer - the consumer. This can be in because the marketing system in Korea is very clear. Regarding the placement of the Samsung store in korea hp; is intensive distribution of which the majority of 'products' sellers in almost every place, price competition is a very clear, its only sole agent. Example, Almost every location in the korea Samsung hp products contained both official and unofficial, and from the sales price of the same product because the manufacture of samsung handphone from korea, so they distribute the mobile phone to the store with same quantity.

Conclusion:

66

Channel distribution system in Indonesia was less clear, because government regulations were less strict proved a lot of things that the black market. Although the distribution system in the Korean company Samsung is clear and she herself comes from there, so it's easier to find. Suggestion: Our advice including Samsung have more spare parts and accessories for Indonesia people to look for problems when there is damage.

Analysis PR Promotional Activity Analysis: We find that Samsung Indonesia promotions are more serious concept that create brand their brand image. The models of Samsung Mobilephones that spread all over Indonesia is more elegant. Moreover, Samsung Indonesias promotions are more about product knowledge. Samsung Korea has different points. Samsung Korea PR promotional activities are more fun concept than Indonesias. Samsung Koreas Promotional activites is more about to boost up sales. Because In Korea Samsung brand is already known as a good brand.

The company actually has a good samsung samsung but its image is still lacking, because Samsung is a lack of events continues to promote its own products and in event they lack of publication.
78

Conclusion: PR samsung in Indonesia is quite good but less publicized to the community, particularly mobile. Different in Korea, drawing his own cellular phone products samsungnya so do his image any that Samsung has embedded in the hearts of Koreans.Saran Event in Indonesia must do a lot of awareness from the Indonesia people (lots of publication about their product in mind of Indonesian people).
