First Saturday Vigil in the month of June

By: Eucharistics Lay Ministers irst Saturday Vigil is one of the regular community scheduled activities each month. For the month of June, it was held on June 5, 2011 from 8:30 to 11:00 pm at the 3rd floor of Philippine Catholic Center. Bro. Dan Habana of Extraordinary Ministry of the Holy Eucharist/PPFI preacher was the speaker. Bro Dan shared about the importance and meaning of the Eucharist in our Faith. Christ the living bread of life: the Eucharist, is the source and summit of the whole Christian life. Through the Eucharist, Catholics worship God as members of Christs body, the Church. It is the memorial of Christs sacrifice, the sacramental presence, uniting the people of God.

The 4 fruits of receiving communion or the effects of receiving it are: it unites us with DIVINE SHEPERDESS Conrada QUEEN ESTHER Amihan Malinao and Christ, it separates us from sins, it reconciles us Costoria and Bong Perocho; Guilberto Huelar; with one another and builds up the Christian QUEEN OF BANDERADA Andrea QUEEN OF STARS - Alea Alviar and John community or the Church.

Stories of Multicultural Families

he language barrier, unfamiliar food, strange culture and lifestyle These are some typical obstacles that marriage immigrants face, and they often lead to misunderstandings and miscommunication among family members. To help them better adapt their new lives in Korea, both the Korean government and nongovernmental organizations are making efforts to support multicultural families. Ms. Fernandez, a Filipina wife married to a Korean husband in Naju, Jeollanam-do (South Jeolla Province), had the same issues in her early married life in Korea, as nobody helped her learn the Korean language. She had no time to go to free Korean language classes offered at the community library or immigration center because she had to help her husband with farming work and raise their children. She has difficulties teaching Korean to her children at home due to her insufficient knowledge of Korean. But these days, she meets her Korean language teacher three times a week thanks to the governments children-rearing support project for multicultural families. Now she can talk better in Korean and feel better by releasing her stress, because her teacher listens to her stories and problems and introduces Korean culture. Oguchi Yumi, a Japanese lady who lives in Busan, Gyeongsangnam-do (South Gyeongsang Province), with her Korean husband, is another beneficiary of the governments child-rearing support project for multicultural families. She was unable to teach her kids Korean at home like ordinary Korean parents because of her lack of Korean language skills, but now she feels more confidence in teaching her children because she can receive help from her Korean language teacher. On the seventh floor of the Save the Children building in Changcheondong, Seoul, a

29-year-old Vietnamese teacher named Phuong is busy with seven children every second Saturday. These children are all from Vietnamese-Korean couples. Since November 2008, six Vietnamese teachers at the Hana Saturday Vietnam School have been teaching Vietnamese culture and language to children from Korean-Vietnamese families in order to help immigrant spouses educate their children and live happier lives in Korea. Like Phuong, more Asian students studying in Korea are voluntarily joining such support groups in Korea to help marriage immigrants of their own nationality settle easily in Korea. More civic groups and local government entities also operate support programs for marriage immigrants and multicultural families. Along with non-governmental organizations, the Korea Foundation for Women is joining the movement. Through its multiculturalism project, the organization supports various programs for marriage immigrants in cooperation with 29 related civic groups. It also provides 3 million won per person as emergency medical care in order to help marriage immigrants in need.

Christ's bloody sacrificial death on the cross is made present in an unbloody manner in ritual sacrificial meal instituted by Christ himself at the last supper.

How does the Eucharist foster unity and charity? Christ used the natural elements of a meal--coming together, conversing and sharing food and drink together--to bring his saving, loving presence among us. In the Eucharist, Christ and Christian community respond to our deepest human hunger for love and acceptance, for understanding, for clear purpose in life, and for justice and peace in our communities.

Also, the Eucharist is a prayer because it offers perfect worship to the Father making the present the sacrifice of his Incarnate Son on the cross through the power of the Holy Spirit. Stop Complaining and Do Something to I m p r o v e Yo u r F i n a n c e s

Jonard delos Santos

These past few days Ive been observing and trying to study how news are written in order to improve my skills and
create a more interesting post for my blog. While doing this, I started reading the comments section of each news and I was surprised that 9 out 10 of them are negative expressions. These people seem to be full of hatred and disappointments that they are venting it in the comment section. However, one thing is common about their wordsthey are all blaming The Author: Mr. Jonard Delos Santos and complaining. If we want to improve ourselves whether spiritually, financially or in other aspects, we need to focus on what we can do for ourselves. Blaming others for our misery will accomplish nothing. It will temporary vent our anger but it will consume us to the point that we can not do more productive things anymore. Initially, I complain a lot of things and blame other people because I am poor. I hate the government for corruption that leads to our countrys dwindling into poverty. I hate the companies who give very little salary. I hate the supermarket because of the inflating prices of consumable goods Hate, hate, hateconstantly whining because I have no money and feel so miserable. But do my whining lead to improving my financial status? Definitely not. Then I read the famous poem written by a disabled person called Invictusit is also the central theme of the movie by Clint Eastwood with the same title. I copied the most important excerpt and posted it in my room and in my office, below is the excerpt: I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul This became one of my official motto in improving my finances. I stop complaining and find ways how to improve my life. I have low salary. I find extra job like tutorials. I work hard in my day job and my boss started noticing it and gives me salary increase. I have no savings. I started budgeting, did cost-cutting measures and push myself to save. I have no knowledge about investing. I do self-study about financial management, stocks, and other investment and I did it without spending. I want to have a bountiful future. I started investing and continuously do it. Everyone has the power to control its own destiny only if they ACT. So if you feel miserable now because of your status, ask yourself what you must do to improve my life. If you find the answer then do it. You may not be able to change the world but you can definitely change your own life.

Seven stories, seven i n s p i r i n g Fi l i p i n o s

By Yahoo! Southeast Asia Editors | The Inbox Sun, Jun 12, 2011 hen we started the 'Pitong Pinoy' project, we thought it would be hard to find seven Filipinos who have made a remarkable difference. After all, it's not everyday that you run into people who could actually devote their entire life to serving others or champion advocacies that are seemingly hard to accomplish. But we gathered an overwhelming number of nominationsfrom loving parents, courageous law enforcers, devoted health workers, brilliant artists, magnanimous celebrities, exemplary athletes, astute youth leaders, inspirational public servants, to simple folk who have touched others with their kindness. Believe us, it was a tough job to choose seven amazing Pinoys. Nonetheless, it is heartwarming to read stories of change, volunteerism, and selflessness. Thanks to all your nominations, we finally have the seven people who make us prouder to be Pinoys (in alphabetical order): 1. Alexis Belonio. This engineer figured out an out-ofthe-box way to make use of rice husks. He created a cooking stove designed to help poor people have access to hot meals. Belonio invented a environment-friendly rice -husk stove which has a fan in its base. It provides air used in the conversion of rice hulls into gashelping poor families cook without needing expensive fuel. Belonio could have gotten a patent for his

invention and gain millions from it; yet he left it patent-free so the technology would be free for everyone to use. His efforts have already been recognized abroad but shouldn't we appreciate him first? 2. Jean Enriquez. If you want to see female power at work, you'd have to meet this woman. Despite the danger of drawing the ire of huge human trafficking syndicates, Enriquez continues to fight for the welfare of Pinays. Her steadfast efforts to empower Filipino women is admirable. She heads the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women-Asia Pacific, which vigorously fights sex tourism, the mail-order bride trade, pornography, and sexual exploitation. Enriquez also holds education camps among young women to ensure that they are not vulnerable to abuse. She also oversees the healing process of survivors and makes sure they get a second shot at having a decent life. 3. Jay Jaboneta. All it took him was one Facebook status message to change the lives of dozens of children in a far-flung village in Zamboanga. When Jaboneta learned that 200 children in Layag-layag village had to swim to get to school everyday (painstakingly making sure that their books, if there was any, wouldn't get wet), he knew had to do something. Through a Facebook status message, Jaboneta was able to raise fundsas much as P70,000on the first week of his call for donations. A Facebook group "Zamboanga Funds for

Little Kids" was later established, expanding his advocacy's reach. Now, the kids of Layag-layag go to school in their bright new yellow boats, each aptly dubbed as "New Hope." 4. Tomas Leonor. For Leonor, initiating change literally begins with a single step. To raise funds for cancerstricken children at the Philippine Children's Medical Center, Leonor organized 'StepJuan' and volunteered to travel sans any motored transportation. Leonor's belief that cancer must not kill the hopes and dreams of children motivated him to walk hundreds of kilometers. His walking expedition started on April 4, 11 at Allen, Samar. To date, StepJuan's Leonor has walked a total of 1,241.5 kilometers and taken 2,887,208 steps in seven islands, ten provinces, 86 municipalities, and 20 cities. 5. Heidi Mendoza. She made headlines and risked her life to expose supposed corruption in the military, allegedly led by ex -Armed Forces of the Philippines comptroller Carlos Garcia. Mendoza braved Senate hearings and bared details of suspicious military transactions, strengthening the multimillion plunder case against the former general. In all likelihood, she could've chosen a simple, quiet life but she decided to take the road less traveled for the sake of the country. She has recently been appointed by President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino as commissioner of

What Is A Father?
By Vicki Mazelin A father is loving and kind, Playing catch in the backyard, And giving his time. Faithful, compassionate, just and true, There are so many things for a father to do. Forgiving, honest, a hardworking example, These are just a few things children need to sample. Laughing and humble, teacher of skills, Kissing an "ouchie" and paying the bills. Wise and knowledgeable, fun beyond measure, Thankful each day for God's dearest treasure. Devoted, undaunted in guiding them so, Pointing to Jesus, the Way they should go. Father's Day gifts are nice but soon forgotten, you see, But God's gift of Jesus the Christ will last all through eternity. Teaching and sharing God's love, Word and blessings, Bowing low before Him your failures confessing. Asking for wisdom and for each precious child, Salvation, mercy, grace, purity and to walk in Truth undefiled. God's plan for marriage is Godly offspring. (Malachi 2:15) Fatherhood is a wonderful but a serious thing. "This is an utterly impossible task," you may say. But. fear not! Your heavenly Father is near and longing today, To hear these words from your heart, "I will trust and obey." So tonight as you tuck your children into bed, After prayers prayed, faces kissed, and all stories read, By their bedside would you kneel, making this your heartfelt plea, "Heavenly Father, may my dear children see Jesus in me."

Sr. Angel Libron, S.Sp.S. How do you say "thank you" to the parent who excitedly prepared with your Mama your coming to this world? How do you say "thank you" to your Papa who lovingly worked hard so Fridays were always children's day, thus the dine-out, ice-cream and chocolate treat, good movies and stroll in the city park? How do you say "thank you" to the caregiver who at many times affectionately carried you in his arms from the car to your bed even when he knew you were just pretending to be asleep upon reaching home? How do you say "thank you" to the playmate who never failed to bring you to the city's carnival whenever there was one? How do you say "thank you" to the companion who carefully drove you to school in the morning and untiringly brought you home at the end of the day since you were in the grades until you graduated from high school? How do you say "thank you" to the family man who joyfully looked forward to coming home each day and expressed this joy through the bag of cookies he brought you, your brothers and mother? How do you say "thank you" to your guardian who could not peacefully go to sleep until he himself has checked that you were comfortably tucked in bed? How do you say "thank you" to your father who proves that one of the greatest things he could do for you and your brothers is to faithfully love your mother? How do you say "thank you" to your friend who fully trusted you and had confidence in you during your growing-up years, and is still your silent supporter in everything you do? How do you say "thank you" to the man who loves you will all his love yet generously gave you up for a greater love (saying "Yes" to God)? How do you say "thank you" to that same man who walked you down the convent chapel-aisle on your First Religious Profession, gave you his blessing and whispered, "God should be number one in your life"? How do you say enough "thank you"? How do you show him the gratitude welling in your heart? Dear Papa, maybe I will never be able to thank you enough. Perhaps, all I can say is: I love you and may God bless you and reward your heart! Happy Father's Day!

the Commission on Audit and we have high hopes that this would pave the way to clean and honest governance. 6. Anna Oposa. A lot of people claim to care for the environment but how many actually go out of their way and really work beyond lip service? Oposa, director of the Law of Nature Foundation, has proven her love for Mother Earth by vigorously working on protecting marine life. She also initiated "Save the Philippine Seas," spurred by recent reports of massive coral reef destruction in several parts of the country. Her initiatives made quite a huge social network ripple and united Filipinos through a national blog day to save the Philippine seas. She is also lobbying to strengthen laws for environment protection, a long-term goal that we hope would live on far beyond our grandchildren's life spans. 7. Tzarina Saniel. In the age of e-books, tablet apps, and the internet, one would easily prefer going online instead of going to the library. But for Saniel, nothing beats a real bookthe feel of the old manuscript, the smell of the paper and the idea that it has cultivated the minds of many. Bibliophile Saniel has collected and

preserved old Filipino books, even original manuscripts from Jose Rizal. Because of her inspiring advocacy, she is definitely noteworthy for keeping Pinoy literature alive. If your nominee did not make it to this list, fret not. This is just the beginning of our collection of good news and stories of how Filipinos beat the odds and make a difference.

Dear Rev. Alvin, Greetings in the mighty name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I am Helbert B. Rabuza 40 years old, a residence of Zone 2 Lower Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City. Philippines. I am writing you because I learned through my cousin working in Korea that you are extending medical support to kidney sufferers like me. I was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease a year ago, since then my life was not normal, I lost my job, my health weakened, everything important to me vanished. I felt like my future shattered in front of me. I am the eldest of the family and the bread winner. the doctors recommended me a two session per week dialysis. That would mean I have to spend so much money weekly not to include maintenance medicines and blood transfusions. For a jobless person like me, it is difficult for me to afford such expenses. I used to be an OFW in Abu Dhabi from 2002 to 2008 but due

An Appeal For Kidney Transplant Sponsor

to my illness it is difficult for me to land a job again. With my current situation, it is difficult for me to afford the dialysis alone. My family is suffering so much because of the weekly expenses for my dialysis, even a one session dialysis I find it difficult to afford. A brother of mine is supporting me, but he is only a minimum wage earner, so sometimes we have to borrow for my dialysis and don't know where to get the money for my next dialysis. It is frustrating and depressing. But thank God by His mercy I was able to keep my at least once a week dialysis, even though the doctors recommended two session. But I cannot rely on dialysis forever. My father, a retired welder is suffering from lung cancer, so its is difficult for us where to get the money for my dialysis at the same time my fathers medication and treatment. I am at lost for words to describe the turmoil my family is experiencing these days. I appeal to your good Foundation to include me in good cause. I wish for your inclusion of me among your transplant beneficiaries as well as your prayers. By the grace of God, I still wanted to live to support my family, have my life back to normal, build a family and contribute goodness to society. I am still in the prime of my life, a hard working individual, Godly, and a good citizen. I am praying for your favorable response. lovely message from Jesus. He loves us so much that we really need him in our everyday life.

God bless us all If you never had any suffering, Then how would you know what I went through? If you never felt pain, then how would you know that I am a Healer?

If you never had to pray, How would you know that I am a Deliverer?

If you never went through the fire, Then how would you become pure?

If you never had a trial, how could you call yourself an overcomer?

If I gave you all things, How would you appreciate them?

If you never felt sadness, How would you know that I am a Comforter?

If I never corrected you, How would you know that I love you?

If you never made a mistake, How would you know that I am a forgiver?

If you had all power, Then how would you learn to depend on me?

If you knew all, How would you know that I will answer your questions?

If your life was perfect, Then what would you need me for?

If you never were in trouble, How would you know that I will come to your rescue

Love, Jesus God our Father, walk through my house and take away all my worries and illnesses and please watch over and heal my family in Jesus name, Amen.

CONTRACEPTION, GATEWAY TO THE CULTURE OF DEATH*

Editors Note: In this issue of our newsletter, we are providing part 2 of the series on an essay about Contraception written by William E. May Michael J. experimental purposes. I will then show that the approach to making moral judgments or moral methodology used to justify contraception has also led to the acceptance of these practices, the hallmarks of the culture of death. John Paul II himself, I believe, was acutely aware of this when he made a very bold claim in one of his earliest apostolic exhortations, Familiaris consortio. I have already cited a portion of this highly important text. The passage in question reads as follows:

In the light of the experience of many couples and the data provided by the different human sciences, theological reflection is able to perceive and is called to study further the difference, both anthropological and moral, between contraception and recourse to the rhythm of the cycle: it John Paul II on the Roots of the Culture of Death is a difference much wider and deeper than is usually thought, one which In the first chapter of Evangelium vitae Pope John Paul II identifies involves in the final analysis two irreconcilable concepts of the human two roots of the culture of death. This culture, he says, is rooted first of person and of human sexuality (no. 32.6). all in the mentality which carries the concept of subjectivity to an extreme and even distorts it, and recognizes as a subject of rights only To be continued ... the person who enjoys full or at least incipient autonomy and who Copyright ; William E. It is Version: 28th February 2002 rooted, secondly, in a notion of freedom which exalts the isolated individual in an absolute way (ibid). Source: http://www.christendom-awake.org/pages/may/contraception.htm Of these two roots the first is most relevant for showing the relationship of contraception to the culture of death. At its heart is the idea that only those members of the human species who enjoy full or at least incipient autonomy, i.e., individuals with exercisable capacities for reasoning and will, are truly persons with rights that ought to be recognized by society. This mentality, the Holy Father points out, tends to equate personal dignity with the capacity for verbal and explicit, or at least perceptible, communication (ibid). On this view a person is preeminently a subject aware of itself as a self and capable of relating to other selves; and not all members of the human species are persons on this understanding of person. This view or anthropology is clearly dualistic, because it distinguishes sharply between conscious subjects or persons and their bodies and bodily life. One can be biologically a living human body and not be a person. Members of the human species who are merely biologically alive easily become expendable.
