We FADE IN on this suburban HOME, some SUN light coming up. It is early in the morning right around six thirty. Around the time people are getting ready for work. CUT TO: INT. KALES BEDROOM -- MORNING TIME This TEEN boy is staring at himself in the mirror. He has a blank look on his face. He has bed hair and wearing boxers and a T-shirt. This boy is pretty young, he is sixteen years old and a average boy. His name is KALE, average boy, bland person, shy and doesnt have expression unless it is with friends. Kale looks over at the alarm clock next to the bed. The time says six thirty five. Kale looks back at the mirror. KALE (Mellow and pissed) Shit. Kale opens the mirror and it reveals that it was a closet. He pulls out a pair of clothes and closes the doors. CUT TO: EXT. HOUSE -- MORNING TIME -- MINUTES LATER Kale walks outside in front of his house. He searches through his pockets for something. He finds something, he pulls it out and it is a pack of cigarettes. He takes out a cigarette and puts it in his mouth. He pulls out a lighter and lights up the cigarette. The first drag just gives him the relaxation that he wanted. He exhales with relief. He smokes the cigarette for a couple minutes then he puts it out. He starts walking down the street. He walks down the street, the bus is just down the street. He gets to the bus stop and starts to wait there. The bus comes around the corner.

BOY + ME = CANCER KALE Well, here it goes. The bus DRIVER opens the door. Kale enters the bus and walks by the bus driver. She gets a disgusted look on her face. BUS DRIVER Kale you eighteen yet? KALE No, why? BUS DRIVER I can smell the cigarettes from here. KALE I wasnt smoking, my mom was smoking around me at the time. BUS DRIVER (Knows he is lying) Ill give you this one Kale but next time Im telling the cops there is a underage smoker going to school. KALE (Sighs and rolls his eyes) Alright.

Kale walks to the back of the bus and sits in the one seater. He pulls out his Ipod and starts listening to it. He listens to some scream-o music. The bus drives off. CUT TO: INT. HIGH SCHOOL -- MORNING -- LATER This is a nice high school, kids roaming the halls. just like a normal high school, friends with there groups, populars with the populars, geeks, average, anti social people and the druggies. A lot more kids come into this hallway. These are the kids from the buses. The last one is Kale to come into the door. Kale looks around and seeing everyone in there little groups.

BOY + ME = CANCER Kale starts walking down the hall, the music he is listening to just seems to go with the mood of the school. He walks into this new hallway seeing an empty bench. He walks over to the empty bench and sits down on it. He starts going through his back pack and pulls out drawing supplies and a pad. He pulls out a sharpie and opens the pad. Theyre some really good pictures in here. He finally finds a page with nothing on it. He places his sharpie on the page and closes his eyes. DISSOLVE TO: Kale is in his little world, a nice sunny place, grass and sun light everywhere. He sits and smiles, little TVS move by him that have his nicest memories as a child in them. This just makes him happier. He still struggles with the drawing. KALE Music! This huge billboard size thing comes down from the sky. It is see through but the list of songs are there.

These songs are his favorites. He moves his finger to go through the songs, he keeps on scrolling down and picks a mellow song. A smile appears on his face. The drawing begins, before he starts to put the sharpie on the page. LOUD BANGING can be heard. Kales eyes widen and starts to look around and seeing stuff come from the sky, falling meteors coming down really fast. Kale starts dodging them and notices something from far away. Its a exit door with the word exit written in red. Kale moves by all the meteors that try to crush him. He runs faster and faster. He is almost there. He jumps and goes right through it into a beaming white light. CUT TO: INT. HIGH SCHOOL -- DAY TIME -- SECONDS LATER Kale wakes up from the day dreaming. This BOY is sitting next to him, his name is MATT(16) This is one of Kales best friends.

KALE Yeah, Im just trying to draw something. MATT Cool, hey you wanna walk around? KALE Yeah sure. Kale gets off the bench and they start walking away. CUT TO: INT. AMES BEDROOM -- DAY TIME -- SAME TIME

This TEEN girl is sound asleep in her bed. Her name is SOPHIA a sixteen year old, beautiful, unique, independent and creative in her own way. Her ALARM clock is going but she doesnt hear it. She finally wakes up to it, looking at the alarm clock with widen eyes. She jumps out of bed and runs over to the closet. She searches through all of her clothes trying to find something fast. SOPHIA MOM! WOMAN (O.S) WHAT!? SOPHIA Is there any of my clothes in the dryer!? WOMAN (O.S) ... No!

BOY + ME = CANCER SOPHIA Then I dont have any clothes for school! WOMAN I told you to do your laundry last night! SOPHIA (To herself) God damn it. She looks down in the pile of clothes of her and starts going through them. She finds something that she likes. CUT TO: INT. CLASSROOM -- DAY TIME --(IN SESSION) The TEACHER stands in front of the classroom talking to the students. The teachers name is MR HANEY Kale is in this classroom, he isnt really paying attention but he looks like he is. Kale is drawing in the sketch pad. This TEEN boy next to him taps him on the shoulder. Kale looks over at him. This BOYs name is ALEX, same age as Kale. He looks pretty stoned right now. ALEX (Whispering) Hey dude, whats up? KALE (Whispering) Not much you. ALEX Not much dude but I got so high last night. I smoked the dope-ist dope that that you will never smoke. Also it was medical to. KALE Damn dude how did you get that? ALEX I have my resources. Do you want to smoke some after school?

I just like being in reality not a different reality. ALEX You know how you are a writer? KALE Yeah? ALEX Smoking weed opens up your mind and have better ideas. KALE I have smoked weed while I write but its not natural to me. ALEX Its not gonna kill you dude. KALE I know but cigarettes make me feel relax when I have them. ALEX Yeah but those are gonna kill you in the future. KALE I dont care. If they kill me right now I think I would of cared but I dont know what my future is gonna be. MR HANEY Alright, what about it? ALEX Ive always wanted to ask you this Mr Haney. Have you ever smoked the best chronic or dank ass mersh? Class starts laughing, except Kale. MR HANEY (Getting angry) This conversation is now over. ALEX You didnt finish my question Mr Haney. MR HANEY I dont need to, Ill give you the answer in detention. The classroom gasps. ALEX (To the class) Hey, at least I will find out an answer. MR HANEY Sit down Alex! Alex sits down.

BOY + ME = CANCER ALEX (Under his breath) Dick. Mr Haney turns around, with eyes open. MR HANEY What was that? ALEX (Looks up) What? MR HANEY You just called me a dick. ALEX No, I didnt. MR HANEY If you didnt then who did? ALEX Kale. Kales eyes widen and then he looks at the Teacher. Mr Haney starts to believe Alex. KALE I didnt call you that! MR HANEY Can you give me the right answer Kale? KALE It wasnt me I swear it was Alex.

Kale and Alex get into a fight about it and start saying stuff like No I didnt or Yes you did This goes on for a while then Mr Haney gets madder. MR HANEY Enough! Detention with me after school. You skip it is a saturday with the principle.

BOY + ME = CANCER The Teacher starts walking away. KALE (Under his breath) Thats gay. The door OPENS. Sophia enters the room out of breath. SOPHIA Sorry Im late. Over slept again. MR HANEY (Trying to calm down) Sophia, your late. SOPHIA Yeah I know Im sorry Mr Haney-MR HANEY (Interrupting) You know what I told you last time if you were late for class. SOPHIA I know Im sorry it will never happen again. MR HANEY What if it happens next time? Sophia you got detention with Kale and Alex with me after school. SOPHIA Please no Mr Haney give me one more chance. MR HANEY No Sophia, four is the limit, sit down now. Sophia gets a sad look on her face and she slowly walks over to her seat and puts her head down. KALE Wow dude, he didnt have to be harsh on her.

Kale looks at sophia, feeling bad for her. She takes her head out of her folded arms and looks back at Kale. Kale quickly as possible turns his head to his sketch pad trying not to be obvious but its to late. CUT TO: INT. LIVING ROOM -- NIGHT TIME -- LATER Kale is playing the piano, the slow sounding song that he is playing is amazing. He is in that different world again, just enjoying the music. Looks like he has been playing for years. This WOMAN walks in, listening to the music. Her name is CHRISTINE, this is Kales Mom. She wears the ratty old robe that he has had for a long time. Messy hair, holding a cigarette in one hand and a drink in the other.

How did you get detention this time Kale. KALE (Rolls eyes & Sarcasm) I was told on for calling Mr Haney a dick CHRISTINE Did you? KALE No I didnt, thats the thing I didnt do anything. If Alex didnt have to bring me in on this stupid conversation maybe I wouldnt have to go to that detention. CHRISTINE What was the conversation about? KALE (Doesnt want to say) Weed... CHRISTINE (Concerned) Why were you talking about that Kale?

BOY + ME = CANCER KALE (Rolls eyes) He was offering me to smoke some but I said no because I dont smoke weed. CHRISTINE I would rather have you do pot then smoking your cancer sticks. KALE So you want me to be like Gemma and smoke weed all the time and not graduate? CHRISTINE No, I didnt say that. KALE You know what weed does to you Mom, I dont want to become useless and end up one day wondering where my life went. At least when I smoke cigarettes I become relaxed and I can be in peace. CHRISTINE Hmm, I dont want to talk about this anymore. Dinner is in twenty minutes. She exits the room. Kale goes back to playing the piano. CUT TO: INT. SOPHIAS BEDROOM -- NIGHT TIME -- LATER

Sophia is drawing in her sketch pad and listening to music. Shes like Kale, she is in her own little world at this point. Yelling can be heard coming from downstairs, to adults fighting. Sophia rolls her eyes and turns the music up more on her Ipod. She is trying to block out the screaming parents downstairs. Sounds of stomping feet emerges. Sophia turns down the music listening to the stomps coming closer.

BOY + ME = CANCER This MAN enters the room, he looks really angry. This is her father. The Worker of the home, hasty, scary, big. FATHER (Angry) Did you get a detention today? No response. FATHER Answer me!! Sophias MOTHER runs up the stairs and enters the room. MOTHER Dont yell at her like that! FATHER Im her Father I can do anything to tell her the truth! MOTHER No you got to be nice about it and ask her! SOPHIA Guys can you fight downstairs and not in my room? MOTHER Sorry Sophia your Dad has a bit to drink. FATHER Dont blame it on the drinking honey. Your daughter is just like you, hiding shit from people because she thinks its better to hide it. MOTHER We dont do that! FATHER Yes you do, why do you hide stuff from me!

Sophia is to scared to answer then the question. The Father gets mad and grabs the sketch pad from her lap. This scares Sophia. SOPHIA Dad give that back!!! FATHER Why, you hiding something in here! The Father starts going through the sketch pad. These are some nice pictures. Most of them are cartoons about kids being in love. Some pictures are to do detailed with sexual contact. FATHER (CONTD) See I knew she was hiding something in here! MOTHER Honey thats art! FATHER You dont mind something like this that your baby daughter is drawing? MOTHER Honey its art, it is not bad at all. FATHER Do you know what could lead to? She could get turned on by this and then she will have sex all the time with guys. The Mother slaps the Father in the face really hard. The Father puts his hand on the red spot where she hit him and gets a angry look to his face. He slaps her down onto the bed. A look of rage is on his face. Sophia and the Mother is scared, they grab onto each other in fear. FATHER Okay, Sophia if your not gonna by tomorrow Im kicking you out. The Father leaves the room slamming the door. Tears go down there eyes. CUT TO: EXT. KALES HOUSE -- ROOFTOP -- NIGHT TIME Kale lays back on a chair smoking a cigarette. He is just relaxed and chilling. His phone rings, he searches his pockets trying to find his phone. He pulls out his phone and answers it. KALE Hey, whats up? TEEN BOY (V.O) Not much what are you doing?

TEEN BOY Well I can meet you in town around nine when I get off work. KALE Yeah that sounds good. TEEN BOY Alright, where do you want to meet? KALE What about Spring Street? TEEN BOY Yeah sounds good. KALE Okay, Ill see you then... Bye.

Kale hangs up the phone and finishes his cigarette. He puts it out and just rests there for a bit. KNOCKS can be heard coming from behind. Kale looks over to see Christina. KALE Hey Mom. CHRISTINA Kale, you know how much I hate you smoking up here. KALE I know Mom.

Christina exits leaving Kale there to rest. Kale pulls out the pack of cigarettes and starts to look at it. He starts to think, yeah theyre bad. So he tosses them over, still on the roof. He looks a lot better now, knowing he did a good thing. He gets out of the chair and walks over to the door. He looks back at the cigarettes. He cant resist, but he shuts the door on himself. CUT TO: EXT. STREET -- NIGHT TIME -- LATER Kale walks down the street, leaves move softly in the wind. Kale walks up to the end of the road and crosses the street. He sits on the sidewalk waiting for someone. He waits and waits, finally this SHAPE starts walk down the side walk. The person is coming closer. Its Sophia, she stands in front of the over head light. She holds a bag of clothes and her backpack on her back.

They walk down this little, this house looks like is hanging off a cliff. This is a nice MODERN home. Basketball hoop in the driveway, two garage doors attached to the two story house. Sophia looks at this house in awe but she keeps it in her. SOPHIA Nice crib. RONNIE Thanks. Do you know the best part? SOPHIA What? RONNIE We got a pool so we can chill, party and do all kinds of shit. SOPHIA How crazy. RONNIE Enough to make you pass out on the floor. First, lets go swimming. SOPHIA I dont have any swim trunks. Sophia is in a nice looking two piece bathing suit and looks beautiful in it. She looks at herself in the mirror, she turns to the side and presses out her stomach. She sucks back in, she thinks that she is gaining weight but she is not. SOPHIA Shit. CUT TO: EXT. POOL AREA -- NIGHT TIME -- MINUTES LATER Kale sits on the side of the pool with his legs in the water waiting. Ronnie comes out putting beverages on the table. He sits over by Kale. RONNIE Dude how did you find her? KALE I didnt find her she just stopped where I was usually waiting for you. RONNIE I didnt this ever happen to me to meet this beautiful hot girl on the side of the street. KALE Shit happens dude, she is beautiful though. RONNIE Yeah, you gonna get on that ass? KALE Na man, if I had a thing going but not now. There is something about her, I dont know, its a mystery. The sound of the doors open. Sophia walks out, she seems kind of shy a bit holding onto herself.

Ronnie runs over to Sophia acting funny and friendly again. He goes behind her and looks at her ass bending over backwards. RONNIE Damnn girl, I thought I gave you swim trunks, those look like some nice damn booty shorts. She laughs a bit feeling better. RONNIE (CONTD) You wanna go swimming with me? SOPHIA Yeah, just give me a minute. RONNIE Alright. Ronnie does a cannonball into the pool making a big splash of water almost hitting Sophia. Ronnie comes out of the water whipping his hair around. Something seems to be bothered by something about the water. It could be anything. But she is has a fear of the sinking in the pool. Kale can see the problem by her looking at the water with a scared face. Kale gets in the water softly and swims over to Sophias side. He puts his arms on the side of the pool looking up at her. KALE You are afraid of swimming are you? SOPHIA (Lying) No, what made you think of that Kale? KALE Its the fact that you stare at the pool as if you were about to jump off a cliff. I can tell. SOPHIA Shit. KALE It wouldnt be a problem if I could teach you. SOPHIA You wouldnt have to do that. KALE I wouldnt mind teaching you, it is just a couple steps then you will be swimming as a pro. SOPHIA Really?

She walks over to the stairs and slowly gets in the water. She gets into the water gripping herself tight because she is cold. KALE Take my hands. She puts her hands out with a scared look on her face. They connect by the touching of their hands. She walks down the last stair and comes closer to Kale. KALE Good job. Now lets get more into the middle. She gets a bit more scared. UNDERWATER SHOT, Kale is walking touching the ground. Sophia starts to go on her tippy toes then struggles to swim a bit. Christina takes the baby and puts it in her arms. Sophia slowly walks over in pain and gets on her knees next to the bed. She can barely look at him because it hurts to much.

She puts her hand on top of his starts to move her thumb around. He isnt moving his. The fact remembers brings a tear to her eye. She looks at Christina. SOPHIA How serious is it? CHRISTINA Hes paralyzed from the waist down. SOPHIA Why, what happened? CHRISTINA A car came around the corner and hit him. SOPHIA (Tearing up) No, no, this cant be happening! This cant be happening. CHRISTINA I know I miss him to. SOPHIA (To Kale) Kale if you can hear me please stay something. No response. SOPHIA Please, Kale come back to me... SOPHIA (CONTD) (Pissed and sad) Please god damn it Kale come back I love you. Kales eyes slowly start to open. Excitement jumps onto her face just she still looks sad. SOPHIA Honey.

BOY + ME = CANCER He is breathing slowly and heavily. He slowly moves his head over to her and looks at her straight in the eyes. KALE (Raspy) Honey... Where... Am... I? SOPHIA Your in the hospital, you were hit by a car. KALE I... Cant... Feel my... Legs. SOPHIA (Struggling) Your... Paralyzed. A tear drop goes down his face. More tears come out as he moves his head up. KALE ... I... Cant... Walk... Anymore. SOPHIA Im sorry honey, but I got a surprise for you.

He moves his head slightly over to the side again still tearing up a bit. Sophia walks over to Christina, Christina gently hands over the baby to Sophia. She cradles it in her arms and she walks back over to Kale. She gets on her knees again. SOPHIA (Tearing up) The doctors were wrong, we didnt get a girl. We got a baby boy. A tear of happiness goes down his face. SOPHIA (CONTD) What should we name him?

BOY + ME = CANCER KALE (Struggles for breath) Jon... SOPHIA After your dad? He uses his eyes to do up and down meaning yes. SOPHIA Sounds good to me. KALE I... Love... You... Mom CHRISTINA (Crying) KALE (To Sophia) Give... Me... Your... Hand.

She grabs onto his hand, looks sweet and sad at the same time. KALE Ill always... Love you... I... I will... always be... With you. She starts to tear up. Kale looks into her eyes and then, something happens. He dies. The monitor has a long beep. She lets go of his and slowly moves her hand away. She starts balling on her knees. Christina walks over and hugs Sophia. Sophia cant even look at it this, she buries herself into Christinas arms. We PULL OUT of this and fade to BLACK. WORDS appear on BLACKNESS. Four Years later EXT. GRAVEYARD -- DAY TIME Sophia and this little kid is walking on this path. She holds the little kids hand. This is JON, four years old now. He looks a lot like Kale.

They start to walk on the grass and pass a few tombstones. They stop at this one tombstone. This is Kales tombstone. They both look down at the grave. SOPHIA Thats your Dad Jon. JON Thats Daddy? SOPHIA Yup. JON Can I do it? SOPHIA Yeah. Jon pulls this note out of his pants and places it on the tombstone. On the note says To DAD SOPHIA Thats it for you? JON Yup. SOPHIA Now, its my turn. Kale, we had a great time to together, the good and the bad. We stuck through it and hoped for the best. You were my everything, one day without you was like a part of me was missing. You would be really proud of your son now, he just started pre-school. He is growing up so fast. Ive been talking to your Mom, she misses you very much and me and my Dad are actually talking on the phone lot. Thats all I got to say for today Kale, I love you. She kisses her hand once and places her hand on the tombstone. She gets back up and looks at Jon.

They start to walk away from the tombstone and get back on the path. The CAMERA is in the sky now PULLING BACK. We FADE OUT: THE END CREDITS.
