Office of the Assistant Vice Chancellor - The role of the Office of the Assistant Vice-Chancellor is to provide high quality services to the Vice-Chancellor and, through the Vice-Chancellor, to Council, the Senior Management Team (SMT), Heads of Schools (HOS), and Directors of Central Service Units (CSUs). These services include strategic and academic leadership, planning, policy development and compliance, risk management including the internal audit function, legislative awareness and compliance, the provision of management information and reporting and executive support. The philosophy of the Vice-Chancellor's Office is to provide and demonstrate leadership, integrity and the highest standards of professionalism to the University community in these areas.

Accommodation, Counseling, and Consulting Services - Accommodation Counseling and Consulting Services is the division of Human Resources responsible for providing disability management and job accommodation-related services to UCSD faculty and staff. This unit provides counseling and vocational rehabilitation services to staff and faculty who have a medical condition including problems resulting from alcohol and drug abuse and/or mental stress that interferes with their ability to work or return to work after a medical leave. Benefits - Benefits is the division of Human Resources with responsibility for health and retirement benefits. y Maintaining an effective benefits communication program y Providing one-on-one counseling and assistance over the phone, in person, and via e-mail y Offering new employee benefit orientations to inform eligible faculty and staff about the Universitys benefit plans in a small-classroom setting y Training departmental representatives and supervisory personnel who assist employees in their respective departments with benefits-related issues and/or materials y Compensation - Compensation is the division of Human Resources with responsibility for policies and programs related to pay, job classification, and employee records for staff employees. y Administration of base pay and ancillary pay y Range adjustment, merit increase, and award programs y Classification and pay grade determination y Development of classification tools and compensation methodology y Compensation-related training and communication programs y Coordination of campus-wide classification advisory committees y Auditing of personnel actions entered into the payroll/ personnel system Employee Relations, Policy Development and Work/ Life - is the division of Human Resources that serves as the first point of contact for employees, supervisors, or managers who have questions or want assistance related to conflict in the workplace, policy interpretation, referrals, and consultation on a wide range of matters related to work. Employee Relations - provides responsive, dependable and consistent customer-centered service through expanded communications. The role of Employee Relations is neutral and the staff offers collaborative problem-solving as a means of reaching resolution to workplace conflict. As the point of contact, Employee Relations provides consulting services, advice, support, and referrals in the Human Resources arena to UCSD employees, supervisors, and administrators. Policy Development - functions includes oversight, review and dissemination of, as well as recommendations for, University of California and UCSD staff personnel policies and procedures. Work/ Life - initiates research to identify new programs and services that support the interdependent work/ life issues within the UCSD community, and then partners and collaborates with other UCSD departments and associations to inform the UCSD community of these programs and services. Employment and Community Outreach Services - is the unit of Human Resources responsible for recruitment. The unit assists the university in attracting the best qualified and diverse applicants through various outreach efforts. Emphasis is placed on guidance and monitoring of the employment process and assisting the San Diego community with employment opportunities at UC San Diego. y Recruits and refers qualified external and internal applicants who reflect requisite skills y Provides professional and efficient applicant intake services to job seekers y Guides hiring authorities through the employment process to ensure that appropriate hiring decisions are made by following sound human resource practices and university policies y Provides assistance and guidance to former employees in layoff status who are seeking reemployment and to active employees seeking transfer opportunities y Provides information regarding career opportunities at UCSD y Offers job skills assistance for UCSD employees and individuals seeking to work at UCSD y Makes recruitment plans

Assists hiring departments in applicant sourcing Develops and presents training and workshops Acts as a liaison throughout San Diego county and the UC system in support of UCSD's commitment to diversity and equal employment opportunities

y Equal Opportunity/Staff Affirmative action - This division designs and facilitates campus-wide programs to foster equal opportunity, heighten awareness of the value of diversity, and ensure UCSD's status in good standing as a federal and state contractor. y implementing and monitoring Human Resources procedures to ensure equal opportunity and nondiscrimination in employment and business contracting y Developing compliance reports as mandated by the federal and state governments y Collaborating with university representatives to develop and deliver programs for the diversification of UCSD's staff workforce y Providing career consultations to staff employees and special training for supervisors and employees on topics such as equal opportunity and affirmative action responsibilities and effective management of culturally diverse work groups Faculty and Staff Assistance Program - is a confidential service designed to help all university employees and the members of their immediate household resolve concerns that may be affecting personal well-being and/ or job performance. y One-on-one information, support, and counseling y Departmental behavioral consultation assistance y Coordinating counseling services and activities, as well as directing faculty and staff to outside resources y Educational workshops and support groups on a variety of topics y Monthly Learn at Lunch lectures related to personal and professional well-being Information Technology - is the division of Human Resources responsible for providing application development, system administration and technical support services to the business units that serve the campus community and job seekers nationwide. y Business process analysis and redesign y Data analysis y Technical consulting y Custom application design, development, implementation, and administration y Database design, development, and administration y Network administration y Security Labor Relations - The primary objective of this division of Human Resources is to act as consultant and advocate to campus administration in the area of labor relations in support of the proper exercise of collective bargaining processes and overall procedures for formal conflict resolution. y Communication with labor unions that represent UC San Diego employees about matters related to employee terms and conditions of employment y Communication with supervisors about the university's collective bargaining negotiations with unions regarding employees who are in a bargaining unit represented by a union y Participation in the negotiation of the university's collective bargaining agreements y Providing training for supervisors involved with collective bargaining agreements and applicable laws y Union contract interpretation y Consultations with supervisors regarding employee discipline or termination and representation for supervisors at meetings about these actions y Representation for supervisors in labor relations meetings, grievance investigations, and unfair labor practice hearings

Retirement Resource Center - The UCSD Retirement Resource Center is the home of the UCSD Retirement Association and the UCSD Emeriti Association, and serves as the starting point for information for all UCSD retirees interested in maintaining their link to the UCSD community and its services. y Developing and maintaining programs which encourage the retirees' participation in campus life y Providing information about UCSD y Promoting opportunities for the retirees' continued service to the university Staff Education and Development - is the division of Human Resources responsible for coordination, design, and delivery of campus wide training and development programs for employees. y Classroom learning in state-of-the-art Learning Center, Computer Training Center, and Training Center North y Web-based training and self-study resources on video y Customized on-site workshops y Organizational development y Training and Development programs Temporary Employment Services - is the division of Human Resources responsible for providing temporary staffing to departments on campus, at UCSD Medical Center, Thornton Hospital, and the Veterans Administration Medical Center. New and existing employees are rotated throughout the campus community on job placements that vary in length from a half-day to several months. TES manages all financial operations associated with the unit including payroll and recharges to customer departments.

The University of California, San Diego, commonly known as UCSD or UC San Diego, is apublic research university located in the La Jolla neighborhood of San Diego, California, United States.[5] UCSD is one of the ten general campuses of the University of California system and was founded in 1960 near the pre-existing Scripps Institution of Oceanography.[6] 22,048 undergraduate and 5,073 graduate students enrolled in Fall 2007 and the university awarded 6,802 degrees in 2005/06.[7] The university is organized into six undergraduate colleges and six graduate divisions and offers 125 undergraduate majors, 52 masters degrees, 51 doctoral programs, and four professional degrees.[8] The University of California, San Diego is currently ranked the 14th best university in the world by the Academic Ranking of World Universities. The university employs 7,566 faculty members including eight Nobel Laureates, eight MacArthur fellows, three National Medal of Science laureates, and one Fields medalist. The university was admitted to the Association of American Universities in 1982.[12] UCSD's 19 intercollegiate sports teams are known as the Tritons and participate in the NCAA'sDivision II (DII) level in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
