Introduction to Prabhat Khabar; Brief history of the organization:


Prabhat Khabar is a Hindi language newspaper published daily in Jharkhand in northern India. The newspaper is circulated in several states in India, including Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. It was founded in August 1984 in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. The journey commenced on- Ranchi: 1984 Jamshedpur: 1995 Patna: 1996 Dhanbad: 1999 Kolkata: 2000 Deoghar: 2004 Siliguri: 2006. The newspaper is notable for reporting social issues and revealing scams, such as the Fodder Scam. The newspaper began reporting the Fodder Scam in 1992. Despite receiving threats, the newspaper wrote 70 reports on the scam and had four or five reporters reporting the story. According to Mr. Harivansh (Chief Editor) Prabhat Khabar is an experiment in Hindi journalism. Prabhat Khabar considers ideas and values to be the very basis of journalism. Prabhat Khabar has started giving information on science, information technology, economics, and the comparative financial progress of different states. Simultaneously, Prabhat Khabar has become the torchbearer for various ethical agitations in civil society. Prabhat Khabar did not learn from the market that the consumer is king , but accepted the Gandhian principle that readers are the masters . The nearly bankrupt Prabhat Khabar was given a new lease of life 14 years ago by a committed young team. . In 1990-91, Prabhat Khabar conducted programmes like reader s court , whereby readers could interact with journalists and discuss ways of improving the media. In villagesblocks Prabhat Khabar at your door programmes were conducted in a similar interactive fashion. The newspaper was linked to information about the people s movement, and during elections, voters awareness campaigns were conducted to create awareness among the voters. Newspapers not only became a part of the cities but also of the villages. By conducting such awareness programmes.

Prabhat Khabar, despite the absence of huge funds, became a very big newspaper in Jharkhand. The statistics of the National Readership Survey reveal that, despite the conspiracy of the concerned newspaper, the number of readers of Prabhat Khabar actually doubled over the last four years. In February 2003, another big Hindi daily (claiming to be the no. 1 paper), Dainik Jagran , launched three editions in Jharkhand, in Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and Dhanbad. Despite its aggressive marketing and publicity tactics, it has hardly had any impact in this region. As part of a new experiment in Hindi journalism, we started new columns to publicize the local affairs of the region. In 1992-93 our newspaper published several investigative reports on the cattle-fodder scam. In 1996, the rest of the country came to know of this scam. Prabhat Khabar had a leading role in exposing this scam. Later on various big and famous newspapers of the country gave the credit to Prabhat Khabar for being the first to expose the scam. In 1997 a BBC team arrived from London and made a film on the issue, and also acknowledged the role of Prabhat Khabar in this regard. But what was the cost of exposing the scam? Criminals (who were protected by the then state government of Bihar) entered our office and threatened us. At every step, they were harassed by the police and other administrative officers. After so many years of hard work, the group was able to establish a very good position and market share fo rPrabhat Khabar. The total no. of pages in each Edition of Prabhat Khabar arised from minimum-16 to maximum-28 including the Supplements. It carries wide range news from Local to National to International, Entertainment to Sports, Business and Corporate news etc. It has special sections of National news, City news, crime/court (Crime report), Editorial, knowledge, Classified, Local, other State s news, Corporate, National-International, Sports, Entertainment etc.

 Production house:
It is the most important part of any Media Agency. All the things are directly or indirectly related to production house starting from cost of newspaper to the selling of newspaper. For e.g. If the machinery of the production house is not up to dated and efficient enough than the cost of newspaper rises and common public won t purchase the paper. Also if the production quality of the machine is not good than also the presentation of the paper is not good so public won t purchase the paper. So Production house is required to be very up to date to the running market. According to my knowledge prabhat khabar have a really very well equipped production house with updated machines inside it. Prabhat Khabar has two machines at Ranchi which can print one lakh twenty thousand newspaper within the time limit five hours.

 Circulation:
Prabhat Khabar has the highest circulation at Ranchi and no other media agency can compete Prabhat Khabar on Circulation. Prabhat Khabar Have a circulation of 180,000 newspaper on daily basis only inside Ranchi and 450,000 in all Jharkhand.

 Agency:
Prabhat Khabar has numerous agencies to help in the distribution process of newspaper.

 Hawkers:
They are the most important part of any Print Media because without the help of Hawkers newspaper will remain with the agency being just a waste paper.

 Readers:

They are the ultimate customers for which newspaper is printed. They make various uses of newspaper starting from simply getting news of the world around to finding good jobs for themselves. Prabhat Khabar has successfully fulfilled each and every demand of the common public which makes Prabhat Khabar the best media in relation to others at Ranchi.

 Product Positioning:
In product positioning Scheduling department and Editorial Departments works efficiently enough for the common people. Editorial Department tries to cover all most every important happening in the world. Scheduling Department works very carefully and efficiently for scheduling of the news around the world and advertisements of the clients. Every Product is produced and presented by keeping into mind the prospected customers. A product or service is positioned on the basis of an attitude or benefit, use or application, user, class, price, or level of quality. It targets a product for specific market segments and product needs at specific prices. The same product can be positioned in many different ways.

Editorial Department plays very important role in the product positioning of Prabhat Khabar, as basically newspaper is purchased for getting the news of world around you so reporters of Prabhat Khabar works very hard for collecting news all around the globe for the satisfaction of the common people.

 Buying Pattern:
Buying pattern is simple and almost common of all the Print media. It starts from production house; it produces Newspaper and passes paper to the circulation department. It circulates paper to the various agencies of different districts of Ranchi. Then from agency it passes on to the hawkers and movers who distribute 180000 newspapers on daily basis.

In actual terms there is very less competition for Ranchi Prabhat Khabar, but Some Print Media like Hindustan, Dainik Jagran, Bhaskar are rapidly growing to give competition to Prabhat Khabar.

 Strength of Prabhat Khabar:


 Advertisement: Advertisement plays a vital role in any kind of Media. It is the Basic source of revenue for the Media House. According to the Policy of Prabhat Khabar to the extent of 60% of whole newspaper can be covered with Advertisement and remaining 40% of space is left for the Editorial department. As everybody knows that Advertisement is the backbone of any kind of media house it is the very strong point of Prabhat Khabar. Numerous of bookings are done on daily basis, numerous are booked in an advance and numerous keeps running from long time back. There are many Marketing field executives of Prabhat Khabar which are efficient enough to bring good number of Advertisements for publishing house. There are 25 advertisement booking centers for classified section and numerous agencies are helping Prabhat Khabar to create good clients in display advertisement category also.

 Good Performance by the Employees and initiatives by the Company: Every Employee is directed towards the common goal. They are efficient and effective enough to achieve their target very well on time.

 Circulation of daily Newspaper:

A very strong and positive point of Prabhat Khabar is its circulation. There is circulation of 180,000 newspapers only in Ranchi, 450,000 in the state of Jharkhand with 4 Editions inside Jharkhand i.e. Ranchi, Deoghar, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad. There is circulation of 250,000 daily Newspaper in Bihar with 3 Editions running inside Bihar and circulation of 125,000 daily Newspaper in Bengal with 2 Editions running.

Weakness:

As every company have their own strong points and weak points. Prabhat Khabar also suffers from some of its internal weaknesses such as:  Advertisement Missing: After very careful working also sometimes some ads get miss printed or sometimes due to mistakes it does not get printed which has become a cause of backward for Prabhat Khabar.  High rate of Advertisement: Since circulation of prabhat Khabar is very high so production cost also goes very high since they have to run company also company cannot think of clients benefit only and by force they have to increase the price of advertisement. So small clients cannot and do not prefer Prabhat Khabar for advertisement purpose since it costs higher than other newspaper agency.  Circulation: Although Prabhat Khabar has a very big circulation area but sometimes this big circulation area becomes problem for the company as well. Sometime paper does not reaches far places in time due to many problems and becomes problem for the company.

 Opportunities:
There are various opportunities for Prabhat Khabar to increase the sale of newspaper especially in the field of Advertisement and Circulation
 Advertisement:

In the field of advertisement there are various companies and Institutions which do not prefer Pabhat Khabar for Advertisement due many problems like price of advertisement and other problems. Marketing executives of Prabhat Khabar Company is visiting these companies for attracting them to Prabhat Khabar.
 Circulation:

Although the circulation of prabhat khabar is very high but still there are many faraway places where Prabhat Khabar did not reach till the time so there is a scope for reaching these places and generate revenue for the company.

Threats:

 Quality manpower:

Although the manpower of prabhat khabar is one of the best in the corporate world but there is always a search for the better persons since the world is of competition. There is a threat that other company may gather better persons so there is a need to update the workers of the company.

 Uprising of other media house:

Since this world is of competition so every company tries their best to come to the competition for the survival of their company. Every Company have their strong and loose points so every company tries to hold their strong point and catch the loose points of the compititing companies to break down that company. Prabhat Khabar is also suffering this problem since it is also surviving in the competition world and other companies like Hindustan, Dainik Jagran, Bhaskar etc. are growing rapidly in the competition creating threat for Prabhat Khabar.

Employee Appraisal Opportunities:


There are various appraisal opportunities provided for the company Employee such as personal computer system with high speed internet connection and available. Not only this company provides telephone facility; stationeries to all the employees is also provided. Good salary package and many other incentives like petrol on motorcycles and mobile phones to marketing Executive personals are also provided by the company for the benefit of the company as well as employee.

 Types of Newspaper Advertisement:


Print media includes Newspaper, Magazines and Direct mail. These are the monst significance of todays print media. A Newspaper is typically either a daily or weekly. It has a intense local coverage. So, Newspaper advertising is different from other form of advertising. Let s have a quick look over different types of advertisements in Newspaper.     They are basically divided into three parts: Display advertisement: Classified advertisement: Classified Display advertisement:

Display advertisement: It is a form of advertisement that is placed on Newspaper and feature pages throughout the paper. It has strong attention value because of its illustration, the arrangement of headlines often visual devices. These ads come in all sizes. They are placed all over in a Newspaper, depending upon the policy of that Paper. Display advertisement is national or local.  Classified Display Advertisement: It a form of advertising that gives you more flexibility as compared to classified advertisements. Here the client can use borders, Large Type, White Space and photo as per there requirement. The width of these advertisement is fixed to 3.1 cm. Length varies and depends on the client how much he/she wants to use.  CLASSIFIED ADVERTISEMENT: Classified advertising is a form of advertising which is particularly common in newspapers, online and other periodicals which may be sold or distributed free of charge. Advertisements in a newspaper are typically short, as they are charged for by Rs. per word, and one newspaper column wide. Publications printing news or other information often have sections of classified advertisements; there are also publications which contain only advertisements. The advertisements are grouped into categories or classes such as "for sale - telephones", "wanted - kitchen appliances", and "services - plumbing", hence the term "classified". Classified advertisements are much cheaper than larger display advertisements used by businesses, and are mostly placed by private individuals with single items they wish to sell or buy.

Architecture: this type of ad is given when there is need of Architecture. 7. Art & Music: It is generally given by art and music schools. 8. Astrology: It is given by astrologers to publish themselves that they do predict future and past 9. Audio visual: It is generally given by Videographer for their publicity s that people will know that they do the work and call them when they will need them. 10. Avsar Classified: As a word itself Avsar says chance it is basically given there is sudden chance of getting something good. 11. Banquet Hall: It is given by those people who own a Hall of their own and they want to give it on rent for any special occasion like wedding party, Birthday Party, any type of meeting etc. 12. Bar & Restaurant: It is given by the owner of Bar and Restaurants for the publicity purpose of their Property so that people may call and book their bars & restaurant when they require. 13. These all are printed as and when required by clients through simple classified booking process. Some of these are commonly used and printed on newspaper on daily basis and some of these are not common and as mentioned earlier printed as and when required by the client.
