RATIONALE
Premature infant usually have low birth weight. The major problem of the preterm newborn is the immaturity of all system. They have difficulty in meeting high caloric and fluid needs for growth due to small stomach capacity. A marked danger of aspiration and its associated complications due to the infants poorly developed gag reflex, incompetent esophageal cardiac sphincter, and poor sucking and swallowing reflex.
