6th May 2011 Dear Parent / Guardian, I am writing to inform you that the School intends to implement a cashless

system to improve student security and achieve greater value for money. This innovation will allow you to pay for School meals and other items such as School trips, etc. without having to send in cash with your son or daughter. We believe a cashless system has the following major advantages for all: 1. It improves your childs security by relieving him/her of the necessity to carry cash and should help us to prevent the risk of having money taken or losing it. 2. It aids School efficiency by reducing staff time spent collecting and counting money. 3. It will reduce School costs for the subsequent cash collection and banking service. 4. Your daily burden of finding change for School meals is removed. 5. It offers better security than cash because funds credited to a School account cannot be lost. 6. There is the assurance that money is being spent in the school dining hall and not elsewhere. 7. You will be able to check your balance online at any time. 8. You will be able to view online the items your child has purchased including full details of the menu he or she chooses. 9. You will be able to set a daily maximum spend. 10. A printed balance statement is available on request (delivered by the student). 11. A full print out of products purchased is available on request (delivered by the student). The cashless system we plan to introduce is based on the latest biometric finger recognition technology. This technology does not store the fingerprint but converts the image of the finger into a meaningless series of letters and numbers which are then stored as the individuals identifier code. After the code is generated, the original finger image is deleted. When a student then places his/her finger on the checkout scanner to make a payment, the numbers and letters generated are checked against the stored identifier code. Full finger images are not used or stored. Finger scans are not essential to our cashless system but, unlike smart cards, they cannot be lost, damaged or stolen and this is why we have decided to adopt this technology. However, if there is any reason you do not wish to consent to your child's finger being scanned, then please inform us and we can issue a PIN code instead. However, please remember that a PIN code can be compromised unlike a finger scan and we cannot be held responsible if the PIN code is misused.

We plan to commence our cashless system at the start of the next Academic Year (September 2011) and, from that time, we will maintain an account for every student at the School. We will also become a totally cashless school so we will not be able to accept cheques or cash for any item thereafter. You will be able to fund your childs account through the medium of our financial service provider and this can be done online from your home (provided you have Internet services), online from the School Reception or, in exceptional circumstances, by PayPoint card from local stores. PayPoint cards can only be issued in exceptional circumstances so please contact us if you feel this is appropriate for you. You can top up your online account by credit or debit card. I hope you agree that this easy, secure system will be a major improvement for the School. If you have any queries, please feel free to contact the Director of Business, Glenn Pearson on 020 206 3038 or by email to school@kingsburyhigh.org.uk. Yours sincerely
