Operating Instructions
The following instructions must be observed when installing and operating the H 4135A:

1.1

Mounting the H 4135A in Zone 2

If the special conditions X are observed, the H 4135A device may be mounted in zone 2 (EC Directive 94/9/EG, ATEX). 1. To ensure that the specified device H 4135A achieves category 3 G, it must be installed in an enclosure that meets the EN 60079-15 requirements and achieves a protection class of at least IP 54, category 1 in accordance with EN 60529. The enclosure must be labelled as follows: "Work is only permitted in the de-energized state"

2.

Note

If a potentially explosive atmosphere has been precluded, work can be also performed when the device is under voltage.

3. 4.

The enclosure must be able to safely dissipate the generated heat. Depending on the contact circuit load, a thermal dissipation loss of 1 ... 3 W must be taken into account. From the standards: VDE 0170/0171 Part 16,(DIN EN 60079-15:2004-5)

3/6

H 4135A (1003)
VDE 0165 Part 1,(DIN EN 60079-14:1998-08) the following points in particular, must be taken into account: DIN EN 60079-15: Chapter 5: Chapter 6: Chapter 7: Chapter 14: Design Terminals and cabling Air and creeping distances Connectors

DIN EN 60079-14:

Chapter 5.2.3: Equipment for use in zone 2 Chapter 9.3: Cabling for zones 1 and 2 Chapter 12.2: Equipment for zones 1 and 2

Proof Test
With SIL 3 applications in accordance with IEC 61508, the user must ensure that a functional test (proof test) is performed at least every 5 years (proof test interval). With SIL 2 applications, a proof test must be performed every 20 years. The required proof test can be performed on site without dismantling the device.

1.2.1

Performing the Proof Test

In particular, the test verifies if each of the relay contacts connected in series is opened in the de-energized state. A multimeter or a continuity tester is required to perform the test. 1. De-energize the device 2. Switch the contact circuit to a voltage-free state 3. Connect the continuity tester with terminals 7 and 8. If a proper fuse is used, the continuity tester indicates electrical continuity (e.g. by beeping). In this way, the continuity tester is also tested. 4. Connect the continuity tester with connections 7 and TP1. The tester must not indicate continuity. 5. Connect the continuity tester with TP1 and TP2. The tester must not indicate continuity. 6. Connect the continuity tester with TP2 and terminal 6. The tester must not indicate continuity. If no continuity is indicated during steps 4, 5 and 6, the contacts of the three relays are opened properly. In this case, the H 4135A device passed the functional test and can be used for another proof test interval.
