Numeracy The new groupings in numeracy have been working very effectively.

Over the next term we will be consolidating the learning that has already taken place, preparing them for year 5, as well as extending and challenging the children. This term the children will continue to practise using written methods for all four operations. They will learn to recognise equivalent fractions, as well as being able to measure angles using a protractor. The children will revise the properties of 2D and 3D shapes, as well as learning to recognise and use different units of measure. We will also be continuing to practise our times tables along with the associated division facts.

We look forward to making your childs learning enjoyable by adopting a variety of teaching strategies. Our topics are changeable, we adapt them to suit the needs of the children. We ask what they would like to learn. This is a summary of the learning programme for the summer term, together with suggestions of things that you could do to support your childs schoolwork. We hope it will be useful and helpful.

Literacy We will continue to revise basic literacy skills, including the use of correct punctuation, familiar spelling patterns and grammar. We will continue to focus on handwriting and presentation. The children will learn to write information texts linked to our Habitats topic, and they continue to develop their story writing. During this term we hope to set up links with one of local primary schools, Coppice Primary School. The children will learn how to write informal letters and will be paired with a pen-pal.

Heritage Week Arts Week Celebrating everything that is British, as well as the Royal Wedding.

Home, Sweet Home (Habitats and Adaptations) In this topic children will learn about living organisms and the habitat that they live in. The children will look for different habitats in the school and local area, as well as finding the organisms that live in them. We will also be learning about food chains and food webs.

Arts week is a whole school project which will be taking place in the 2nd part of the summer term. This year we will be focussing on African music, storytelling, drama and art.

Dragons Den (Business Enterprise) During this project the children will be investigating what it is like to run their own business.

PLEASE SUPPORT US If your child is absent from school for any reason, please telephone the office on 020 8500 4640 on the first day of absence. It is advisable for your child to be in the playground at 8.50 am to ensure a prompt start to the school day. School finishes at 3.30 pm so please ensure that you are in school at that time to collect your child promptly. Please make sure you advise the school office of any changes of address, telephone numbers, emergency contacts etc. All children are encouraged to bring water bottles with them each day. We would appreciate any parents who would like to help us with reading. Please be aware that any new parent helpers will need to be CRB checked, please ask us about this.

THINGS TO REMEMBER Children should bring their reading books and reading records to school every day. Please feel free to record your childs progress with reading in their reading record. Please check that your childs uniform/ PE kit has their name clearly written on the labels.
