Guide Questions: 1. How would you describe the newly implemented BSN curriculum? All are expounded.

Everything in nursing practice is given ample amount of time to be learned by the nursing students. This curriculum develops the competencies of the students starting from their 1st year in the course until their 4th year. In this way, nursing students will be able to focus mainly on the nursing practice and adapt early to the pressure and demand of the course. 2. Why do you think this was implemented? Every year, statistics shows that the percentage of the Philippine Nursing Licensure Examination declines together with the quality of nurses. These are just one of the evidences to prove that there is a great need to improve nursing practice in our country and one of the solutions for this problem is the implementation of the BSN 5-year course program. This is a way of strengthening the nursing curriculum and uplifting the standards of the nursing practice in our country. Significant topics that were mostly overlooked by students were broken down into one of the required subjects in the curriculum for a more enhanced and comprehensive learning. Nursing as a science is a continuous learning process and very much affected by the drastic change of technological advancements and to compensate with these changes, there are certain subjects that were added to the new curriculum such as the Nursing Informatics. In this way, nursing profession will be updated with the current trends that could benefit its practice especially in the delivery of health care services to the people. 3. What are the subjects that were enriched, added or deleted? AHSE I and II were deleted in the curriculum and replaced by new subjects such as Theoretical Foundations in Nursing: Competency Appraisal I and II, Health Assessment which are parts of major topics in Fundamentals of Nursing and were broken down as individual subjects. Health Education and Spiritual Nursing were also added in the new curriculum. 4. What do you think are the strengths and weakness of this curriculum? The new BSN curriculum provides longer time of exposure to nursing practices. It is more systematic and advanced compared to the AHSE curriculum. Each major subject is given sufficient time to be tackled and explained well in class. The students may be able to focus more on specific subjects and understand the entire topics in details. Therefore, nursing practice is well actualized and implemented. The downside of this curriculum is that students, especially 1st years tend to be overwhelmed by the terms used in nursing. They are bombarded with medical terms which they heard for the first time. This could cause confusion and stress in coping up with the great pressure given by this new BSN curriculum.
