AN UNFORGETTABLE DESTINATION!

Inaugurated in the year 2000, the Vloroute des Bleuets soon became a destination of choice for cyclists looking for wideopen spaces, beaches, and breathtaking landscapes.

KILOMETRE UPON KILOMETRE OF FUN!

The closed-loop circuit, covering 256 km around Lake Saint-Jean, runs through 15 municipalities as well as Mashteuiatsh, a Montagnais community. On the periphery, you have access to the parc national de la Pointe-Taillon and dozens of other communities. It crosses paths with several tourist attractions, commands a view of the tributaries of the lake, and joins the Route verte leading to the Saguenay region. Along the way, many restaurants, campgrounds, bed & breakfasts and other lodging facilities await your patronage. Around one of the largest bodies of fresh water in Quebec, with an area of 1,000 km2, a most impressive cycling network is designed: The Vloroute des Bleuets.

MILEPOSTS

Mileposts are set up along the side of the circuit to enable you to situate yourself on the maps. They begin and end at Sainte-Monique-de-Honfleur. It was in this town that the very first groundbreaking ceremony took place in 1998.

Gilles Girard, Owner 1859, rue Principale, Chambord (Qubec) G0W 1G0 Phone: 418 342-6651 or 1 888 342-6651 (Speak slowly please) Page: 819-280-8931

There are 36 rest areas along the network, identified by the pictogram above and absolutely free. They are easy to find thanks to the mileposts. They are equipped with picnic tables, waste receptacles, and bicycle racks.

Improvement work
On May 2, 2008, Minister Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister Denis Lebel and Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean Mayors and Mayoresses announced a $7.3 M investment project. This initiative, aimed at improving your riding experience on the looped circuit, will be achieved thanks to a joint partnership between the Federal Government and the local communities that are continuously working hand-in-hand with the Vloroute des Bleuets. The investment will allow us to reduce the number of kilometres of cobbled shoulders along Route 169 by replacing them with more than 25 kilometres of paved stretches. Improvement work will begin during the 2009-2010 season, but the whole circuit will remain available to cyclists.

CONTEST
WELCOME TO BLUEBERRY COUNTRY
