Were Looking for a Few Godly Men

In following the Biblical model, our church will be selecting 2 men from our membership to serve as deacons. Our Pastor recently taught a series of lessons on Wednesday nights entitled, The Local Church Deacon. To su bmit names of men for consideration, you must be a member of New Testament Baptist Church and at least 18 years of age. Names must be submitted to the church by 1 PM on Sunday, July 17. Please use the form provided by the church. Those men recommended by the church membership MUST attend the meeting with the Pastor on Sunday, July 24, 2011 (after PM service). P a s t o r Fi s h e r wi l l o u tl i n e t h e responsibilities and qualifications of deacons. During this meeting, those individuals who are qualified and willing to serve as deacon must indicate their willingness to serve by submitting a written notice to the Pastor. The names of the men who were nominated by the church membership and indicated a willingness to serve MUST attend an additional meeting with the Pastor on Sunday, July 31, 2011 (after the PM service) to determine the candidates that will be placed on the election ballot. The Pastor will orally call the name of each man who has been nominated by the church membership and indicated a willingness to serve. Those in attendance will bow their heads and prayerfully consider whether that man should run for deacon or not. Then a vote is taken. Each person present in this meeting will indicate his favorable vote by raising his hand. A candidate for deacon will only be placed on the ballot if he receives a unanimous vote from the men in attendance. In essence, each person in attendance at this meeting has veto power. Those men in attendance do not have to reveal or report their reasoning behind their votes to the Pastor, deacons, candidates, or church family. Those candidates who received a unanimous vote from the men will have their names placed on a ballot for the office of deacon. The men who were nominated by the church membership, Biblically qualified, confirmed by a unanimous vote by the men nominated, and expressed a willingness to serve will be announced in the Sunday services on August 7. Those members (at least 18 years of age) physically present in the Sunday services on August 14 may cast their ballot for deacon. The 2 men with the most votes will be installed as deacons. If only 2 men are on the ballot, they will automatically be installed as deacons.

Your relationship to Jesus Christ is central to the answer to that question.

We are, by nature, sinners who stand guilty and condemned before our Creator and Judge. In our thoughts and actions, we have disobeyed His perfect standards. We are sinners (Romans 3:10, 23). We are helpless to save ourselves. Forgiveness is a gift to be received, not a reward that can be earned. We need a Saviour (Ephesians 2:8-9). Because of His love for us, God provided salvation through His Son, Jesus. He became a member of the human family, lived without sin, and died on the cross to pay for our sins. Jesus is the Saviour (Romans 5:8; John 3:16). Salvation is an individual matter and requires a personal response on the part of anyone that wants to be saved. All who acknowledge their sin and place their trust in Christ are adopted as Gods children (Romans 10:9, 13).
