2011 Barrett Fall Welcome Activities at ASU Downtown Phoenix campus: August 14th-15th

All new Barrett Downtown students are expected to participate in the following Welcome Week activities. Parents and guests are welcome to attend all events, unless specified as students only.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 14TH Barrett Downtown Students Move In to Taylor Place (all Barrett Taylor Place residents and families) 8 a.m. to noon | Taylor Place Residential Hall Fall Welcome gets started for residential students with move-in day. To confirm your move-in date and check-in time, refer to your electronic move-in packet. Get ready to receive the keys to your new home! Taylor Place Resident & Family Orientation (all Barrett Taylor Place residents and families) 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. | Cronkite Building, Room 122 Join the Taylor Place Coordinators for a general info session about living in Taylor Place Residence hall. Barrett Basics (all Barrett students and families) 2 to 3:30 p.m. | PURL Building This is a mandatory orientation for all new Barrett students and their guests to learn more about the benefits and requirements of the College. *IMPORTANT INFO WILL BE PRESENTED, DONT MISS OUT!* Barrett Study Abroad and Travel Programs Info Session (all Barrett students and families) 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. | PURL Building Learn about the unique Honors Study Abroad trips and Barretts Great American Cities travel program. Barrett Welcome Dinner (all new Barrett students and families) 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. | University Center Building Lobby (First floor) Join the Barrett Downtown Dean, fellow student leaders, faculty and staff for a welcome dinner! Barrett Residential Late Night Programming (all Barrett Taylor Place residents) 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. | UCENT Room TBA B-Town residents, meet your Residential Peer Mentors and enjoy their welcome Video, games, and fun scavenger hunt! MONDAY, AUGUST 15TH Barrett Downtown Breakfast (all Barrett students and families) 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. | First Watch Diner, 1st St. and Washington St. Enjoy breakfast with family and new friends at a fantastic Downtown eating spot! All are welcome. Barrett Fall Assembly (all Barrett students and families) 10:00 a.m.-Noon | Gammage Auditorium (Tempe campus) Board the light rail at 9am with Barrett leaders after breakfast to ride together to the Barrett Fall Welcome Assembly. The Big Barrett Urban Bus Tour! (Students ONLY) 2:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. | Bus boards at Polk and Central Avenue (in front of UCENT Building/Downtown campus) All new Barrett students are invited to explore, taste, and tour the Downtown Phoenix area. Narrated by Downtown Phoenix Ambassadors, this bus tour will allow you to view the city through culinary, political, economic, social, cultural, and aesthetic lenses. Welcome to the introduction of your urban neighborhood! Taylor Fest! (all Barrett Taylor Place residents) 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. | Taylor Place Meet residents from other residential colleges also living in Taylor Place while having fun at this evening late-night social program. FREE food, giveaways and more! TUESDAY, AUGUST 16TH College Assemblies 8:00 a.m. to Noon | College Assemblies (more info available through your College/School)

Fall Welcome FAQs


Who can participate in Fall Welcome Activities? New Barrett students are expected to participate in ALL Fall Welcome activities. Guests and parents are welcome to attend Fall Welcome activities unless the event is specified for students only (e.g., Barrett Urban Bus Tour and B-Town Residential Social events) Do I have to attend all Fall Welcome activities? Consider Fall Welcome an opportunity for you to become well-acquainted with ASU, Barrett, and the Downtown Phoenix area. The more events you attend, the better prepared you will be for the start of the school year. New Barrett students are expected to attend ALL Fall Welcome activities. I am from out of town and my parents are travelling with me to help with the move-in process. How long should they plan to stay? Guests and parents are welcome to stay as long as they like. Most parents are planning to help their student with move-in on August 14th and will stay for all Welcome Week activities until August 17th. However, we understand if financial/time constraints prevent guests from staying the entire time. One of the priority events is our general orientation, Barrett Basics, on August 14th, from 2-3:30pm. Additionally, guests and parents are encouraged to attend the Welcome Dinner on August 14th and the Barrett Fall Assembly on August 15th. Where should my guests stay? There are several hotels that are within walking distance from the Downtown campus. Visit: http://www.downtownphoenixhotels.com/ What meals will be provided during Welcome Week? The following meals will be provided by Barrett during Welcome Week: August 14th: Dinner for students and guests August 15th: Breakfast at First Watch; Snacks and appetizers on the Barrett Urban Bus Tour afternoon event for students These meals are free of charge for Barrett students participating in Welcome Week activities. M&G dollars can be used on August 15th and meal plans begin August 18th. How do I find out who my roommate is? You will be notified of your roommate towards the end of July via an email sent from the ASU Housing department. What should I pack/bring with me? You will receive an "electronic move-in packet" via email in mid-July. This packet will contain details about your room configurations, suggested items to bring and/or purchase, your move-in time and instructions. Contact ASU Housing for more details: 480.965.3515. I do not plan on living on campus next Fall, can I still participate in Fall Welcome activities? Where do I park? Yes! Fall Welcome events are not just for Taylor Place residents. If you are a new Barrett student, you should participate in all Welcome Week activities, apart from the Residential events. Students are encouraged to take Light Rail or public transportation. ASU visitor parking or public parking is available, but you will be responsible for the cost. Consider buying a student metro pass- a great deal! (visit http:// asu.edu/pts for more details) What is the Barrett Urban Bus Tour? Barrett Downtown facilitates an introduction to Downtown Phoenix for new students at the beginning of each academic year. This is a four hour bus tour is designed to introduce you to Phoenixs urban core! All new Barrett students are invited to explore, taste, and tour the Downtown Phoenix area. Narrated by Downtown Phoenix Ambassadors, this bus tour will allow you to view the city through culinary, political, economic, social, cultural, and aesthetic lenses. 2:30pm Board buses at Polk and Central 2:45pm departure 7:00pm return to campus The cost is FREE to new Barrett students! What other ASU Downtown Fall Welcome Activities are planned? General ASU Fall Welcome and College activities are scheduled from August 16th-August 21st. These events will not conflict with Barrett activities, so you will be able to attend all programs of interest. Visit http://students.asu.edu/fallwelcome to see a complete list of events.
