One major source of cost reduction comes from OptiMons ability to substitute drive test. Based on its unique feature set, OptiMon allows for a reduction of overall drive test activities by 60 to 80%. Especially in a 3G network, drive test proved to be particularly inefficient and very costly. OptiMon will allow network engineers to achieve better results within a dramatically reduced time. Additional potential for significant cost reductions lies in the efficiency that network engineers gain when using OptiMon instead of other tools. Because of OptiMons advanced network optimization tools and unique analysis features, the average time of trouble ticket resolution is drastically reduced. OptiMons ability to provide traffic and quality analysis on geographic maps allows network planning engineers to determine more precisely where additional sites or equipment upgrades need to be performed. This network planning support by OptiMon can translate into significant savings of capital expenditures while improving network quality. The cumulated cost savings enabled by OptiMon provide network operators who utilize this solution a positive ROI in less than a year.
Feature Descriptions
Automatic Reporting and Decision Support Tools for Radio Network Optimization
OptiMon provides a variety of automated tools that provide specific information that is vital to Radio Optimization engineers. It will enable them to: I more efficiently perform their daily tasks
I I
focus on the most important issues save time and makes optimization tasks easier
Network KPIs and Dashboards Dashboards for different KPIs and topics are created by OptiMon. Dashboards display the trend of specific KPIs over multiple hours, days or weeks. In contrast to KPIs from OMC/OSS and network monitoring systems (which are usually based on attempt/ success event counters), OptiMon KPIs are based on counting dedicated failure events that allow a classification of problems and point to the root cause much faster. This makes OptiMon the ideal tool for troubleshooting and optimization of network clusters. Drill-down is possible by the click of a button to further analyze any of the KPIs by: I top worst handsets involved
I I I I
top worst cells cause distribution top worst roamer geographic distribution
The OptiMon default configuration includes for example dashboards for Iub, Iu, Iur, HSDPA, Handovers, etc. Additional dashboards can be configured by users.

Over-provisioned and Missing Neighbors Detection and Reporting. OptiMon provides information about cell neighbor relations that are:
I I
In cases where Pingpong handovers are associated with Serving HSDPA Cell Change, severe throughput problems can occur Can be avoided by reducing pilot pollution areas or by adjusting handover trigger parameters in the RNC
Either missing in the RNC > Missing neighbor Or neighbor relations that are never used by mobiles and hence shall be deleted > overprovisioned neighbors This is essential information for radio network engineers to optimize the cell neighbor lists in the RNC
A sleeping cell is a cell that hosts a lot of active radio links, but initial access to the network is not possible; subscribers will perceive this as a coverage problem The root cause of this problem is that one or more common physical channels (PRACH, AICH or SCCPCH) are out of order The sleeping cell symptom is wellknown from drive test and perceived in areas where drive test handsets send subsequent PRACH preambles without getting a grant from the cell to send a RRC Connection Request message OptiMon's Sleeping Cell Report points immediately to cells with such problems and eliminates the need to use drive test to find such sleeping cells
Areas where too many cells provide strong coverage suffer unnecessary interference OptiMon provides information on situations where such pilot pollution occurred excessively
Situations in which softhandover radio link additions and deletions are executed within a very short timeframes (e.g. 1 s) OptiMon will provide automatically a list of cells between excessive Ping-Pong handovers have occur Ping-pong handovers can be an indicator for pilot pollution and can generate a significant unnecessary signaling load in the network

Call events of interest for optimization and troubleshooting engineers are displayed on a geographic map A unique algorithm is used to calculate the position based on measurement events reported by UEs This allows optimization engineers to:
I I
Save cost not having to perform drive tests Reduce time-to-resolution because knowing the location of service issues is a key requirement for efficiently solving them
Relative thresholds, e.g. a change in call drop rate of 0.5% compared to previous value
Whenever thresholds are exceeded, OptiMon will generate automatic alarms that are submitted to configurable users by email or SMS. Thus, users do not have to observe the network continuously, but will be notified if any configured threshold has been violated.

In-depth Radio Analysis of Cells and Calls Includes Numerous HSxPA Measurements
Specific radio chart tools in OptiMon allow users to perform comprehensive radio analysis of individual calls or cells. Radio parameters such as Ec/No, RSCP, BLER, BER, RTWP, etc. can be plotted over time (curve) and correlated with the occurrence of signaling events (symbols). HSxPA specific measurements include Capacity Allocation Credits, HSUPA power control analysis, HS-DSCH Provided Bit Rate, E-DCH HARQ Retransmissions. For cell radio parameters, time graphs or histograms can be selected for display.
The correlation of drive test and protocol test data provides full visibility of Uu, Iub, Iur and Iu interfaces. The call data is plotted on geographical maps while radio measurement parameters are graphically displayed. This allows for concurrent analysis and comparison of uplink and downlink events and measurements which makes this especially valuable for root cause analysis for cases when other methods have failed.
The Mobile Network Optimization is enabled by Tektronix GeoProbe 3G mobile network monitoring system probe feed. The benefit that GeoProbe brings to the Optimization solution, OptiMon is the performance improvement to the NSA servers due to GeoProbe based deciphering and combining functionality the overall solution is capable of support upto 750Mbps RNCs.
