A. Regeneration, or the new birth, is a work of God's grace whereby believers become new creatures in Christ Jesus. It is a change of heart wrought by the Holy Spirit through conviction of sin, to which the sinner responds in repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Repentance and faith are inseparable experiences of grace. Repentance is a genuine turning from sin toward God. Faith is the acceptance of Jesus Christ and commitment of the entire personality to Him as Lord and Saviour.

B. Justification is God's gracious and full acquittal upon principles of His righteousness of all sinners who repent and believe in Christ. Justification brings the believer unto a relationship of peace and favor with God. C. Sanctification is the experience, beginning in regeneration, by which the believer is set apart to God's purposes, and is enabled to progress toward moral and spiritual maturity through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit dwelling in him. Growth in grace should continue throughout the regenerate person's life.

We have 2 natures - one old and sinful, one new and full of divine potential - consider Gal 5:16-17 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. HSp and flesh are in constant battle. The only way to overcome is by walking in the Spirit of God
5. Mens rules for their own govt. Matt 20:15 6. OT law - a conditional covenant of works - essentially saying the Law (God) is If you do good, I will bless you 7. Law as a dependence upon the flesh - whatever is done in the flesh in trying to observe the commandments etc.
1. Legal principles of the Mosaic law now act as guiding principles for Christian life - lived out in grace 2. We are delivered from a covenant of works - accepted and free to live in Christ 3. Not living in the power of your own flesh living in the power of the Spirit 4. Grace means unmerited favour - which God instigated in his dealings with Adam God treats us with mercy not as our actions deserve - this is only possible through all that Jesus did and accomplished for us. Israel accepted the law thinking they could keep it and proved grace to be the only way of being accepted before God

5. Grace is revealed in 3 ways: a. Salvation by grace b. Safekeeping through grace c. Grace as a rule of life for the saved a. Salvation by grace There is no other way of salvation - Acts 4:12 - in saving grace God shows his limitless love for the lost whilst meeting his own demands for justice and righteousness through Christ. In this God deals with every sin and obligation for payment, and all human merit - every aspect of human effort is dealt with by Gods grace for those who believe - it has to be a sovereign act of God not in any way dependent upon man.

b. Grace alone keeps safe those who are saved - God keeps on pouring grace into the lives of those who are saved - Rom 5:2, 1 Pet 5:12 - With the help of Silas, whom I regard as a faithful brother, I have written to you briefly, encouraging you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it. c. Grace as a rule of life for the saved God teaches a way of life to those saved through grace so that they might live for his glory. Living in grace means not obeying to gain Gods favour but as a manifestation of the indwelling Spirit based on the principle of faith.

c. No human experience confirms this and if it were true parents would give birth to sinless children. d. When accepted, what need is there for the ministry of the HSp? Yet we are told to walk in the Spirit, not let sin reign, mortify the flesh, yield to God etc. 3. Some believe that just by being saved they can live for the glory of God - Paul shows this as folly in Rom 7:15-8:4 - Rom 7:25 shows deliverance from the power of sin is through not by Christ - Rom 6:1-10 says our fallen nature is dealt with by cocrucifixion/death/burial with Christ and indwelling of HSp.
