Practice Organization

To build a successful basketball program, there are many areas that are important and practice organization is a key proponent of a successful program. Failing to plan is planning to fail, organization brings efficiency in practice and because of this, players are developed through enhancement of their skills and the team built into a well coordinated offensive and defensive unit.

4 Key Factors to consider while organizing practice;

Facility: What kind of court or ground you have available and its location, if it is shared by others. Time: The amount of time available for practice and the exact time to start and end the practice. Equipments: The equipments you have like basketballs, skipping ropes, etc. Personnel: The number of players, managers and assistant coaches you have available. With all these factors considered, you can then prepare a well devised practice session that will be beneficial to your program and will enable you to effectively use the resources within your means.

Preparing a practice session:

The Legend, Coach John Wooden stated, Probably, the success or failure of most coaches is in direct proportion to their ability to devise practice drills, and then coordinate them properly into their daily practice program. In view of the 4 factors, we do want to consider the time of the season and the number of training days in order to come up with the theme and objective. Then, we come up with the drills that are suitable for the accomplishment of our objective. Therefore, a practice session must comprise; Date Time: (Duration of drills and the practice session.) Theme: Objective: Location: The Session number. Number of Players. Evaluation of the practice session Below is an example of one of our past complete practice sessions that can aid you in planning your session. Also we have included an open practice schedule that you can use if you find our plan suitable for you.
