PERFORM WITH US FOR OUR 2011/12 SEASON

LAKESIDE PRIDE MUSIC ENSEMBLES


Lakeside Pride Music Ensembles is looking for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) communities, and their friends, in the Chicagoland area to perform with us for our 2011/12 Season. Our four ensembles - jazz ensemble, marching band, symphonic band, and symphony orchestra - reflect a musical legacy that has brought the Chicago LGBT community together for more than 30 years. Lakeside Pride welcomes members of all playing abilities, from individuals who have not played since high school to professional-level musicians. Most of our ensembles do not require an audition to join. We strive to foster a collaborative and supportive environment that helps all members represent the LGBT community on stage and express themselves through music. FREEDOM BAND & COLOR GUARD Rehearsals on Sept. 18 and Sept. 25, 2011 for an appearance at AIDS Walk on Oct. 1, 2011; Rehearsals for summer parades begin in April 2012 on Sundays from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. Our award-winning marching band and color guard entertains nearly one million spectators annually at parades and events across the Midwest. This ensemble embodies the vision of the original Chicago Gay Pride Band, which formed in 1979 as one of the first LGBT bands of its kind. Members have also performed in other U.S. cities and overseas with the Lesbian & Gay Band Association. These include the Gay Games in Sydney and Chicago, the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade in New York City, and the Inauguration of President Barack Obama. shhh...OUT! JAZZ ENSEMBLE Rehearsals resume Aug. 24, 2011 on Wednesdays from 7:30 p.m. 9:30 p.m. Performances will be announced by September 2011 shhh...OUT! has a following across Chicago as the swingin side of Lakeside Pride. Recent appearances include the opening of the landmark Out in Chicago exhibit at the Chicago History Museum and the Pritzker Park Pride Month Concert Series, sponsored by the Chicago Public Library. Audiences cannot resist tapping their toes to our performances of the charts made famous by big band and jazz legends. SYMPHONIC BAND Rehearsals resume Aug. 21, 2011 on Sundays from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. Performances are Nov. 19, 2011 and Mar. 31, 2012 Strike up the band! Each year, our Symphonic Band performs a repertoire that highlights new and traditional band literature, orchestral transcriptions, and other favorites. This ensemble frequently features special guests, including the Chicago Gay Mens Chorus, and former Staff Sgt. Eric Alva, the first Marine wounded in Iraq who also stood next to President Barack Obama when he repealed the policy known as don't ask, don't tell. SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA Auditions are Aug. 23 and Aug. 30, 2011; Rehearsals resume Sept. 6, 2011 on Tuesdays from 7:00 p.m. 9:30 p.m. 2011 Performances are Oct. 11, Nov. 15, and Dec. 13; 2012 Performances are Feb. 14, Mar. 27, May 8, and Jun. 9 Our Symphony Orchestra celebrates the exciting, centuries-old tradition of orchestral music with a fresh approach. The Symphony Orchestras concert series at the Center on Halsted brings exciting performances of classical masterpieces directly to the LGBT community. Masterworks planned for this season include Beethoven's electrifying Symphony No. 7, Copland's rip-roaring Rodeo, and Tchaikovsky's stirring Symphony No. 5. Auditions are required for membership. Membership dues are $80 (year) or $40 (half year). We offer a discounted rate to students and seniors at $60 (year) or $30 (half year).
