Question 1 (a) Describe the historical development of Operations Management and five important concepts that impact today operation management principles and techniques. (50%) (b) Pat was hired as a new operation manager to the fast food restaurant. This restaurant is facing poor service and food poisoning issues. The revenue and profit is deteriorating. Pat has to use 5P to overcome the issues. Define 5P and recommends five activities that Pat shall implement in order to address the issues. (50%) Question 2 (a) Describe product life cycle and analyze why understanding of product life cycle is important for putting together a proper operations strategy. (50%) (b) Operation sets performance objectives in order to gain competitive advantages. Describe five performance objectives and what do each of them means in the context of operations. Illustrate your answer by using a company of your choice (e.g. IKEA or DELL). (50%) Question 3 (a) Discuss the development of job design approaches. Explain the benefits of environmental friendly design to your manufacturing and what are the activities required in order to implement Green manufacturing in your company. Question 5 (a) Discuss in what circumstances the pull scheduling are not suitable to be implemented, justify your reasoning. (20%) You are the consultant and walked into the production floor of the company XYZ. You noticed the operator is clearing some manufactured parts caused by the machine malfunctioning. There are many production parts waiting to be processed and many machines were idling because the technician took a long time to reach the machine to repair it. Production scheduler was talking to the production supervisor about the shipment that has been missed. The company did not hire any engineer but there are a lot of inspector inspected the final products and you can see many scrap part waiting for rework.
