A.2.2 Walls, slabs and rectangular sections

For one side exposed thin sections with limited thickness, w, the temperature
distribution shall be calculated as for a concrete volume exposed to fire(A.2-4)
at two
opposite surfaces, using:

in the formulas below for the situation shown as case A.

The temperature increase in a concrete volume exposed to fire at two opposite

surfaces can be calculated from: (A.2-5)
for the situation shown as case A
for the situation shown as case B (A.2-6)
Thus, the resulting temperature in a concrete volume exposed to fire at two opposite
surfaces is: (A.2-7)
for the situation shown as case A
for the situation shown as case B (A.2-8)

Case A Case B Case C Local corner system

Coordinate systems for sections exposed to fire.

In a concrete volume exposed to fire at four sides as shown as case C, the resulting
temperature can be calculated from:
(A.2-9)
Here the contribution is a local effect at corners, where the effects of
evaporation at the beginning of fire are reduced. This contribution in the corner zone
can be calculated from:
(A.2-10)

The dimension of the corner zone can be put to:

a = 0,04 m for fire durations up to 60 minutes (A.2-11)
temperature can be calculated from:
(A.2-9)
Here the contribution is a local effect at corners, where the effects of
evaporation at the beginning of fire are reduced. This contribution in the corner zone
can be calculated from:
(A.2-10)

The dimension of the corner zone can be put to:

ac = 0,04 m for fire durations up to 60 minutes (A.2-11)
ac = 0,10 m for fire durations longer than 60 minutes.

In the following diagrams, the resulting temperatures calculated as above are shown
as isotherms for a quarter of the cross-section for a column, h = b = 300 mm

(diagram marks). The results are compared with the corresponding temperature
profiles from NF EN 1992-1-2/NA (solid curves).
